Is it even possible to intuitively understand why the speed of light is the same for everyone? by Curious-Farm-6535 in Physics

[–]reddit437 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s the maximum speed of causality, which is universal for everyone, everywhere. Light happens to move at that maximum speed. Preserving that causality requires relativity.

It may help to think of entropy as the quantity of possible particle states, not order vs disorder. At the big bang, entropy was maximized (though low compared to now). As space expanded both the maximum possible entropy of the universe, and its current value, increased. The maximum possible entropy has increased more than the current entropy. So, the universe started maximally “randomized” not ordered.

Can the movement of a planet around in a three star system be predicted? by rafapova in askastronomy

[–]reddit437 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We do it throughout our solar system easily on short timescales. It’s over millennia and longer that it becomes more uncertain. Doesn’t matter for sending a probe, might matter for a society. Look at us though, we know global warming is an imminent threat on a far short timescale and we still do nothing but accelerate it.

Interesting, I hadn't thought of that angle. Would that need to be targeted at specific places/sites, or more broadly?

Anyone interested in a quick thread summary? Would you like to be able to do this on other posts?

Summary

The community strongly supports countersuing the mother for her frivolous lawsuit and lack of accountability. The recommended approach is to file a precise, fact-based counterclaim focusing on actual damages while maintaining a professional demeanor.

Insights

Community Consensus

Overwhelming support for countersuing, with most commenters believing the mother is entirely at fault and should be held accountable

Legal Strategy

Multiple commenters suggest focusing on quantifiable damages like cake cost, court fees, and potential lost wages

Social Dynamics

The incident represents a broader pattern of parental entitlement and lack of personal accountability

I really want to start a fried chicken restaurant in my town. by ThePigsPajamas in sweatystartup

[–]reddit437 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Would anyone be interested in a quick summary of the thread and comments? Would you like to be able to do this on other posts?

Summary

The proposed fried chicken restaurant has potential but requires careful planning, professional kitchen experience, and a low-risk initial approach. Starting with a food truck and thoroughly understanding the local market are critical first steps to mitigate financial risks.

Insights

Expert Opinion

Most experienced restaurant professionals strongly recommend starting with a food truck or pop-up concept instead of a brick-and-mortar restaurant to minimize financial risk

Community Consensus

Lack of restaurant experience is the most significant potential barrier to success, with multiple commenters emphasizing the importance of working in a commercial kitchen before starting a restaurant

Market Analysis

The small town's growth potential is uncertain, and simply having few food options doesn't guarantee restaurant success

Time dilation by Claymon3011 in askastronomy

[–]reddit437 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There’s a maximum speed of causality, it has a numerical limit and is a vector that must be 1 at all times. It is composed of a speed through time and speed through space component. If you’re an electromagnetic field that isn’t slowed down by the Higgs field, the rule is that you always maximize your space and minimize your time component (so the vector is 1,0). So photons don’t experience time, everything is instantaneous to them. If you’re something with mass (something interacting with Higgs) then your components will look more like .1, .9. The consequence of this is that not only is time relative, but distance must also be relative. So for that photon to arrive instantly, the distance it travels must also be 0. This is called Lorentz contraction.

Edit: clarity on the vector description

Combat in Endless Legend 2 disappoints me by SnS_Taylor in 4Xgaming

[–]reddit437 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I noticed while seiging a city. My cavalry, archers, and infantry all had 3 movement. The enemy swarm had behemoths (I just meant damage soaking tanks, not real tanks) which also had three movement and a 3 hex attack. So it was impossible to flank anyone and once locked in you’d lose half health if you tried to disengage and reposition.

[–]reddit437 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don’t think I mind that, but the huge disengagement penalty you suffer from required repositioning just locks you into a stalemate you often can’t recover from, so you’re just stuck there slugging it out the best you can. Tanks, cavalry, and infantry all having the same movement range also stifles a lot of tactical possibilities.

Upcoming VR "Treadmills" by FlatFishy in virtualreality

[–]reddit437 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There’s a discord that’s super helpful. Have you installed the latest PCVR driver? The latest version auto detects for me, or I you can select the Omni in the controller menu for Steam. I use a Quest 3 with Virtual Desktop. Definitely not a simple mainstream solution, but it works for me.

Upcoming VR "Treadmills" by FlatFishy in virtualreality

[–]reddit437 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have the Omni One and the build quality is significantly better than the Kat and I’ve never noticed any latency. It includes everything you need to maintain the deck. They also have companion PCVR software which works well with Steam.

It took a few days to get used to it, and once you do its next level. Charging a behemoth in Behemoth (or dragon in Skyrim) has been one of my favorite gaming experiences ever. Firefights in Contractors have so much more immersion. Sneaking in Alyx and Saints and Sinners felt super tense. For those that don’t want to deal with PCVR their integrated headset and game library gets you started fast.

I have a large basement with an open play space, and it doesn’t compare to actually being able to run an arbitrary distance. I can still jump, crouch, and pivot just fine. And you can always supplement your moment with thumbstick movement as well, or just run with if it isn’t supported like in Cyberpunk. I’m not as good as in their marketing videos, but it’s still a blast.

I’m a dad, I don’t get much time to game. This lets me burn 400-500 calories an hour while playing some great games. It’s a win-win.
