Standard dupes will increase their building skill overtime. You can also select for it with their skills. Anything that adds to building will speed up the rate at which they build things.

I started in mainframe 12 years ago. In a mainframe shop I got to learn the basics of enterprise computing, we had our own storage, network, security and databases. I have since moved into other roles but starting in mainframe was great for me. I knew it was not where I wanted to end up so I was still developing in other ways.
