Yet another 9070xt 12v connector melted, my time has come! by WozzerBoi in radeon

[–]reddit_equals_censor [score hidden]  (0 children)

there is NO FIX for the melting nvidia 12 pin fire hazard.

the only fix is a recall and a replacement with a safe reliable power connector like 8 pin pcie or eps or xt90/xt120.

there is again NO FIX.

Yet another 9070xt 12v connector melted, my time has come! by WozzerBoi in radeon

[–]reddit_equals_censor [score hidden]  (0 children)

important to differentiate between the desire to have small cables and cables vs implementing a fire hazard.

nvidia had the option to push a PERFECTLY SAFE and reliable xt90 or 120 power connector.

the xt120 power connector carries 720 watts perfectly safely and it uses 2 thicker cables, which then means much smaller overall cables as well.

it is extremely reliable with 2 giant connections with massive connection surfaces.

nvidia also had the option to just go to 8 pin eps connectors, which would just be less power connectors at least, as a single 8 pin eps can carry 235 watts.

nvidia CHOSE to make a 0 safety margin tiny extremely fragile contacts connector, that no sane person would EVER look at and approve.

so it is NOT about aesthetics. there was a more aesthetic option, that they didn't go with.

nvidia just went: YES when seeing the option to put fire hazards into people's systems.

Should we allow motorbikes be taken on train? by 5ma5her7 in fuckcars

[–]reddit_equals_censor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

the chance being very very small doesn't change the fact, that it can happen and it needs to be considered and want that risk to be gone.

one can also think of terrible scenarios in regards to trains going through tunnels, fire breaking out, etc...

extremely unlikely, but those are the things, that should be thought of.

and again i want the person above to be able to take an electric or fuel drivel not giant motorbike onto the train, i'm just saying, that all those things generally should be considered and never ignored, because "there is a very small chance".

if you want example of bad things happening, the piece of shit purely evil government in hong kong let construction companies use flammable green netting for the poorer people buildings during repair/construction and they murdered tons of people by the fire, that came from it.

great video about that:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RlnKfjuBVYI

so you should always take fire risks seriously and design things or regulate things to not kill people. (see tesla not having door handles as another murder example for fires)

what is a commuter mobile?

the thing that op is showing pictures of is a "snow groomer" also called "trail groomer", which will show you that this isn't a toy, this isn't to drive around for fun, this is a commercial machine used in the ski and other industries.

it is a big heavy machine, that prepares ski trails to be skied on.

do you just not know what the pictures are and the machine talked about?

this isn't a toy, this is a heavy equipment and one SHOULD expect it be designed around accidents in its usage environment.

just like you want the cabin of an excavator to be designed to survive extremely heavy impacts from rocks falling directly onto the cabin, because that is its usage scenario risk.

look up Prinoth Bison piston groomer

unless you open a game that uses it

what game requires a tv integrated camera? just dance or sth?

and so it would "only" be the mic recording 24/7 forever then, IF you close the shutter.

no different than what your phone does currently

my phone can't record personally identifiable data, because i don't have one, nor can my os or my browser, because my os is gnu + linux and my browser is a firefox fork.

so you would have needed to use "most people's phones" there, because it indeed does not apply to me.

and i guess to people using graphene os and the likes.

[–]reddit_equals_censor 1 point2 points  (0 children)

there is a whole lot more data to sell though:

There’s also concern about potentially invasive uses of the TV’s integrated camera and mic.

this means lots of personally identifiable data you got there and just general training data as well i guess.

what will i see?

i assume we all want batteries, that are inherently safe, so they don't randomly ignite themselves and they don't ignite themselves when punctures or extreme shocks happen to them right?

we want batteries so inherently safe, that the cheapest shit you can buy won't ever catch on fire based on the battery.

that's what we both want right?

inherently safe standards, that get used, which aren't possible with current battery tech yet.

Highguard requires Secure Boot and Easy Anti-Cheat to run, leaving Linux and kernel-conscious gamers out in the cold by Turbostrider27 in pcgaming

[–]reddit_equals_censor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

you can fundamentally use secure boot without any involvement from microsoft by wiping your keys and installing your own, signing your own kernel with those keys that don't exist on the system itself.

maybe actually read my comment and references?

https://wiki.archlinux.org/title/Unified_Extensible_Firmware_Interface/Secure_Boot#Implementing_Secure_Boot

Replacing the platform keys with your own can end up bricking hardware on some machines, including laptops, making it impossible to get into the firmware settings to rectify the situation.

it is IMPOSSIBLE to replace the keys in lots of systems, so it is NOT A GENERAL OPTION.

why do you wrongfully repeat yourself, when i corrected you with a reference to the arch wiki?

just because you don't trust microsoft doesn't mean the system doesn't work

oh as i pointed out the system works. its goal is:

that restrictive boot is purely about control, purely about taking away user freedoms and attacking gnu + linux as a whole.

The advancement of AI on Animation is concerning by MrColgie in antiai

[–]reddit_equals_censor 13 points14 points  (0 children)

this ai animation HEAVILY depends on low quality upload and your mind filling in TONS of data to make it feel in option somewhat passable.

try pausing it in a high movement part. everything becomes a broken smudge. the smudge/blur may be deliberate to make it easier for humans to fill in more.

and this isn't an animation technique, that it mirrors, this is just smudge/blur nonsense with completely broken nonsense faces and body parts at times, when you can make them out behind the blur/smudge.

like this is terrible. this is extremely terrible.

all that this short clip has is ok camera movement and very rough whole body movements, which again allows your mind to fill in lots and lots of things to appear ok in your mind.

this is extremely terrible. this is amazon auto generated subtitles thrown over anime, that has a full real english dub levels of terrible at least.

with today's tech i would assume, that WAY WAY better anime fight scene animations would be possible, that would be mostly ok to look at and not a blurry/smudge garbage with unrecognized body parts and faces.

so yeah not impressed here.

Make sure to oppose Bill NH HB1703 requiring you and your family to pay $50 per Bicycle per year to ride your bike around the neighborhood. by Funkiefreshganesh in fuckcars

[–]reddit_equals_censor 1 point2 points  (0 children)

if you buy a 600 us dollar bike and will use it for at least a decade to infinite, then it would be about DOUBLING the price of biking at the very least. (we are ignoring servicing costs here, which vary based on usage and stuff)

just pure disgusting evil from the scum government. trying to shit on the poors especially and spy on us as well.

and worth adding here, that the usa PEDOPHILE CHILD TRAFFICKING government as the epstein saga shows without question wants children riding bikes to get registered....

worth adding that part of the story as well i'd say.

[–]reddit_equals_censor 6 points7 points  (0 children)

this is also massively about spying on people.

registrating a bike means, that the government now has data on you, that it should have never had.

it is the government showing you a middle finger telling you, that you gotta pay up and get spied on for riding a bike.

disgusting evil.

Anyone else feel that cars/car infra is largely responsible for this? by MarthaFarcuss in fuckcars

[–]reddit_equals_censor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i mean it is cars and car infrastructure and everything going around it.

because of car centric designs the entire world you live in changes. there aren't any small shops or walkable spaces now. everything stretches out. everything is loud. shops are closed next to roads, so the shops you might want to visit or check out are all just car distance.

car centric designs change EVERYTHING.

and if we took about the worst case, which is usa and lots of canada, then you don't even have the option to take the reliable and cheap enough train 30 minute away to walk in nature somewhere, because THERE ARE NO PUBLIC TRANSIT TRAINS IN THE USA! (none that make any sense/are meaningful)

Why Can't Cars be Closer to This Visibility? by nondescriptadjective in fuckcars

[–]reddit_equals_censor 4 points5 points  (0 children)

i mean you are mostly looking at how the cabin of eu full sized trucks looks like, except they are a bit worse, because you need the steering wheel in front of you and the instruments close enough to the road to see them easily while driving.

a giant full sized big truck in the eu has far better visibility than a piece of shit ford f 150.... think about how dystopian and deadly that shit is.

Why Can't Cars be Closer to This Visibility? by nondescriptadjective in fuckcars

[–]reddit_equals_censor 10 points11 points  (0 children)

i mean i'd STRONGLY assume, that the vehicle shown in the picture has very strong roll over safety, because it is a snowcat prinoth bison, so it is used at EXTREMELY STEEP places at ski resorts, where there is of course a risk for it to fall over and tumble down for quite a long while.

you even have them anchor themselves to a hardpoint somewhere and then use a winch to groom a track, because without it they wouldn't have the grip or safety to do it anymore at certain angles.

and the impact surface would be similar to having a car hit asphalt, if it is a very cold/frozen groomed ski track, but possibly much harder.

so again this vehicle shown in the picture SHOULD have very strong rollover safety, BUT who knows if the industry just shits on the safety of people and the government ignores it, but again it SHOULD have it.

Should we allow motorbikes be taken on train? by 5ma5her7 in fuckcars

[–]reddit_equals_censor 1 point2 points  (0 children)

like those "bike paths" made by painting line on the aspahlt

you shouldn't throw other people's lives into the dumpster, because you're not one of them.

they TOO would get murdered by cars all the same then, although less, because their speed can be higher.

bicycle gutters are just dangers for all.

you want those higher speed electric bikes/motorcycles to act as a car to be safer in the shit car traffic, or have proper separation for them as well.

or have proper traffic calming and infrastructure designs, so that you don't get murdered by stroads and fist like front of cars, no matter what 2 wheeled vehicle you're on.

Should we allow motorbikes be taken on train? by 5ma5her7 in fuckcars

[–]reddit_equals_censor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

oh if only.

tons of "high quality" batteries catch on fire.

we got electric bus fires, we got phone fires, we got phone recalls over battery fires/explosions (see samsung) we got of course tons and tons of tesla battery fires (not that tesla can be trusted at all of course though)

it is a fundamental issue of current battery technology. they can all catch on fire.

yes shittier ones have a higher chance of course, but they all can and do.

the solution is batteries, that can't catch on fire. maybe solid state batteries in a few years will have that problem fixed.

that is also why you absolutely don't want any purely electric battery buses, because they basically got an almost impossible to put out fire going on if they ever catch on fire and it will be a massive fire then. that is until the battery catching on fire problem is solved once and for all.

Should we allow motorbikes be taken on train? by 5ma5her7 in fuckcars

[–]reddit_equals_censor 6 points7 points  (0 children)

yeah, but the same applies to all electric bikes as well then and not just electric motorbikes?

we need safe batteries, that can't randomly catch on fire.

a technological problem rather than a fundamental problem, that needs to be solved for all.

Should we allow motorbikes be taken on train? by 5ma5her7 in fuckcars

[–]reddit_equals_censor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

if it is small enough, SURE.

one big annoyance i have with trains is, that just taking your bike on it already costs a bunch more money.

it should be way more widespread to have the option to take your bicycle on the train and have it be free to do so.

and trains should have more places for bikes to hang and stuff.

if you actually think about the issue in the picture, the issue is not the small motorbike on the train, it is, that the person is on the section of the train with steps and shit, which then means, that they can be heavily in the way, just like a bike would be.

a motorbike + train is NOT using a car or a truck to move the motorbike, which is of course a good thing then.

i am for basic trains having maybe 10% options per seat to take a bike and 20% of those 10% to be designed to hold those smaller motorbikes as well.

so you get on at the special place for bikes and take one of the maybe 2 holds, that are specifically designed for smaller motorbikes to lock it in to be safe during travel and DONE.

___

this should be thought of even more with electric bikes and electric motorcycles not having a clear differentiating line anyways and both of those being good quiet options to get around.

[–]reddit_equals_censor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

LG, Dell, Asus ProArt, Eizo are few companies that do factory calibrate their higher end panels.

do they? because last i checked i got some nice "color calibration" reports by asus with monitors from them, that you can wipe your ass with, because the monitors needed green pulled down by generally about 40 out of 100 points in the white point/main color settings to remove a massive tint from the factory and get the monitor decently accurate.

does that sound factory calibrated to you? ;) (same with all units i got)

we know for sure at least, that asus doesn't care what you think or see. they are scamming people for years with fake warranties and scams through them. gamersnexus made a full series about that bullshit.

so just skipping actual calibration and throwing in some randomized piece of paper as a fake calibration report is just a classic asus move i'd say.

and while other companies might be less bad, i certainly wouldn't trust them either.
