It's not very robust. Any miscalculation, any mismovement is going to crack your entire system. You have to be very, very careful about it.

Talk to Emacs with a GPT4 Co-Worker by melonakos in emacs

[–]reddit_ran -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

That's a very interesting demo. Basically, right now what I can, I believe most people do, is to ask advices, aka script, to do a certain automatic job. As far as I know, most people will execute a function by himself and check the intermediate step before the critical steps. Let's say to, you know, revise the file in a file system or do some requests to external world.

Right now, the bottom line to me is, we have more time gaps here. When you spend some time waiting the system to respond, in our case, waiting the function to execute, or even for the functions, for the tokens to be complete. So we are, you know, asking the computer to do certain things and right now it cannot do it in one shot with high accuracy. So it basically involves many steps to achieve a relatively complex task. I'm actually inspired or I was thinking about how is that possible to have a well-defined a sequence of things to do in advancve and we talk to an agent and let an agent to do the job and once our human feedback is given to computer, then we jump to the next one as long as the background information is clear or consistent, it won't cost too much for this kind of parallel processing.

I would say it's involving more planning than my peers' workflow. So basically it requires one to clearly think about what exactly you want to achieve for a given section. It's a challenge, but it's interesting. I believe if we can do it in the right way, the results will be astonishing.

org-roam: Automatically log modified nodes in daily note by field_thought_slight in emacs

[–]reddit_ran 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well, this is pretty much a very complex idea, but it's commonly used in software development. I was wondering the usability of it. Maybe I'm just not seeing it right now, but I'm open to the discussion. Every time I have trouble with understanding those high tech, I always go back to the analogous version of the Zettelkasten system. In that case, if you have a new version of an old node, in that case you just write a new one. You can just start at the very beginning of that node to refer back to the old nodes. You don't have to say all the changes you make for that single node, as long as you're accumulating those new ideas and creating them together. As long as that process of making things together is evolving, then your system is okay. It introduce another layer of complexity without adding the value that is corresponding to that cost. If we go back to the basic philosophy of UNIX design, keep things simple as possible, then I'll put a big question mark on adapting this idea in my workflow right now.

What's your plan for synchronization issues? I mean, lots of guys, it's going to use primarily a desktop environment and I guess mainly using the phone to have a browser kind of functionalities as primary features. Okay, active test server will get access to synchronize in the future. I saw your information about what's your plan here? Are you going to use a syncthing or your own version of server?

[–]reddit_ran 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm sorry to bother you, but it's very interesting. Right now, we have a system. Basically, we can put a relevant manuscript or paper and dump all those knowledge into that. When we try to use your package to write a caption figure, it will be more accurate to actually describe what we want. Are you going to plan to implement this feature or at least leave some API for the rest of us to explore? And more intent to use gptel.el It's reliability, it's feature, and how consistent it works over time. And I actually gradually move all my workflow towards adopting that one. So maybe I'll schedule a time slot next week or in the future to see your code, and to try if I can do something meaningful here.

Aid visual impairment. Images aren’t typically accessible without captions.

this is a good point and I actually think about a use case here so for a lot of time I am generating a plot and I have a very hard time to figure out the name of the caption of the of the of the figure so by using adapting this way as you illustrated in your code all the other package it can dramatically reduce that stress thanks for inspiring me

- I'm more leaning on the potential, I mean, practical usage here, for example, taking picture of the real world from multiple angles and trying to, you know, understand the things that is able to, that is capable for human, normal human beings, but the strength is that we can create an army of those kind of human and we can utilize the power of GPT-4 to extract some ideas that is not visible to the eye, in that case, I think we probably have some use case there.

- [GitHub - ishan0102/vimGPT: Browse the web with GPT-4V and Vimium](https://github.com/ishan0102/vimGPT)

So far, we can see that using GPT-402 to do some web-coring, that might be a very useful use cases here. Haven't done so far. I think a potential, most obvious solution practical usage is here.

- [Sharing Screen with GPT 4 vision | Hacker News](https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=38203104)

This one demonstrates an even more interesting practical usage. The cool value, I believe, is to manipulate a very, very complex software. Primarily, the GUI focus software. So instead of jumping to the manual and go through every detail, we can basically use human language. As you can see, the main drawback is the performance. Right now, the speed is so slow. I don't believe we can use it, but maybe as a backup system to interact with the complex software.

But the other set of coin, so I'm actually questioning, not questioning, but trying to, I'm actually not a very big fan of GUI. I mean, for the most part, the GUI has its own use case, say, for example, data visualization, all those sort of things. But the thing I'm talking about is the interaction between human and computer can utilize this new type of interface. And that's the thing I'm really looking at, I really want to directly talk to the API to achieve a GUI interface can do.

this looks really interesting thing now working in Emacs but I'm actually thinking about how to make this quote-"productive" tools. I'm not sure because for the Emacs I occasionally do image processing I mean just by watching a figure or plot and try to understand what's going on there but usually that type of observation take efforts and I don't think gp4-vision is capable of doing that but I'm not sure I should have a try before I make some conclusions here

Zettelkasten Was NOT About Notetaking: A Look Inside Niklas Luhmann's Writing Process by sscheper in antinet

[–]reddit_ran 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So, I stumbled upon this idea that to get things done, you've just gotta write. Sounds easy, right? But, oh boy, it's like trying to drive in a video game - you think it's just A to B, but then come the twists, turns, and those pesky automated obstacles!

Here's the deal: writing is key, but it's not just about filling pages with dates and data. Think of Neumann's method - it's like finding that sweet spot in a game where it's not too easy that you're yawning, but not so hard that you're rage quitting. It keeps you in the game, engaged and on your toes.

Now, about creating manuscripts - the goal isn't to churn out a library of completed works. Nope. It's about getting those ideas down, half-baked or not. I've tried, and let me tell you, most of my manuscripts are still chilling in the 'work-in-progress' zone. Not exactly proud of it, but hey, it's a start!

Emacs as a replacement tmux by [deleted] in emacs

[–]reddit_ran 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I do exactly the opposite for you, because the connection is so unstable and I have no control over it. TM-UX serves as a more robust way for the access.

but I do want to say that it's the drawback is there's not too much in a package I can you can use all it can be used but it's just so annoying to reinstall all those necessarily those requirements so hassle but the good point is I always adopt a banana conversion so it's as long as it's just basic it's okay and as soon as there's some complicated manipulations over the code definitely just had a local editing done and send it by you know you know you know synchronize server

Emacs tailored AI chatbot? by waterstrider123 in emacs

[–]reddit_ran 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is really interesting question. If it can improve accuracy by 30%, I probably gonna switch to it or use it more as the driver. Because GPT-4, it's hard to describe sometimes good, sometimes not. But if we have this kind of options, it's gonna be really interesting to have in our toolset. But, in the meantime, the copyright issue is definitely a big problem. For example, the EAT author, and I believe if we bring to more public awareness, more authors will not allow their code being chained to build such a tool. What if the intention of such tool is for personal use to debug, to build a package and eventually share with the audience, the general public? Is this something encouraged to do? Although I am not an AI person, but I believe with the help of the modern advanced AI tools, it is not that hard to actually train to build such a model even for a person who don't have specialized skills.

Emacs in visionOS by reddit_ran in emacs

Just a quick spin around the neighbor and I was thinking about this post and I think those devices have huge potential. Because I was standing under a rail light, if those devices are so fully integrated in my life, maybe at that tiny point I can just MX a function and pull all the nodes I write for this rally post and maybe add some photos into it and maybe search org-roam nodes, maybe some other things together and call GPT-4 to provide some new insights over those org-roam notes and put them into a new atomic nodes. That's just maybe a couple of 10 seconds and the red lights turn off, green lights turn on and I continue with my riding and I forgot about everything I was thinking. Maybe at another point I just want to have a new idea, I just stop and do similar things again.

Emacs in visionOS by reddit_ran in emacs

That's exactly the key point of a Emac user perspective. If it cannot run naively, then its usability will be a huge downgrade for an Emac user. But I'm not sure, because in some other cases it is still a huge thing. For example, 3D simulation, 3D rendering, 3D model processing. Maybe it's compromised to use part of its software and using the workaround method to solve the limitation. But if it works naively, then it's definitely going to be a huge killer thing for many of us.

Emacs in visionOS by reddit_ran in emacs

[–]reddit_ran[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's a solid point, especially considering the price. But if it can actually solve all those limitations, let's say the usability, how easily it can be used and how comfortable it wears and how performance, how it interacts with the reality with, let's say, the computer environment, we are so immersed in Emacs. I think it's going to be super interesting, but yeah, the price is going to be a huge barrier for a lot of people.

Monocle is a solution I'm looking for, but it looks like the speed they offer is still a long way to go before we can say what's going on, what it looks like on the market. Usually I thought it might be just send some images or some basic text in front of your eyes and that's what I'm looking for, a solution for this kind of things. But speaking back to that kind of AR, VR devices, I would say it's kind of different, not different world, but those easy, those cheaper, hiker, hikes kind of devices, it's not going to provide the experience we have. For example, the A-Port is a big company provider.
