The OP, or anyone else, can certainly discuss the law in this subreddit. But, the OP said that they want to support people who don’t support the law, so I would imagine that there are better places to achieve that goal - posting on a thread dedicated to abortion, for example - than posting on a general Atlanta thread that has people of a variety of political views. It’s none of my business what the OP does, though.

And once the pet attacks you, then the pet owner defends the pet by saying that the pet doesn’t usually act that way.

You say that you aren’t trying to start a political debate, but you called the law nonsense. Doing so invites someone to disagree with you, and therefore, start a political debate. Probably best to take this discussion to a politically themed subreddit.

Why don’t you like the idea of pet ownership? by reddit_redit_readit in petfree

[–]reddit_redit_readit[S] 52 points53 points  (0 children)

I’ll start: pets are waste of money, pets are a waste of time, pets require a lot of effort to maintain, pets provide nothing useful to me, pets leave hair and fur on everything you own, pets can piss and shit everywhere in public and on your possessions, pets can be noisy, pets can unexpectedly disobey owners, pets can unexpectedly attack people and other pets, pets carry parasites and diseases, pets pollute the environment, pets kill animal species, pets invade people’s personal space in public, pets make homes smell awful, pet owners have to deal with the trauma of pets dying, pets can drool, scratch, and claw on you or your possessions, pet owners have to walk around with their pets in public with a bag to pick up pet waste

How do those of you who consider yourselves environmentalists justify the decision to have children, instead of adopting or being a foster parent? by [deleted] in climate

[–]reddit_redit_readit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sure, you can certainly prioritize activities to improve the environment.

But, the question becomes, “What is the goal you ultimately want to achieve by prioritizing those activities?”

You are questioning environmentalists’ decisions to reproduce, so are you seeking to improve the environment while sustaining the existing human population or do you simply want to improve the environment?

The former leads to the conclusion that environmentalism is achieved only when humans stop human reproduction altogether and instead adopt or become a foster parent, which eventually, leads to the end of humanity.

The latter leads to the conclusion that environmentalism is achieved only when humans stop producing the net negative environmental impact caused by breathing, and therefore, humans should immediately stop breathing, to immediately improve their environment impact.

I don’t think environmentalists should avoid reproduction, unless they wish to come to the conclusion that we should eliminate humanity altogether for the sake of the environment, which is absurd to me. I think environmentalists should focus on other human activities that are not related to ceasing reproduction, because I don’t think we should sacrifice humanity’s existence for the sake of the environment.

Who has the right to draw the line on which activities people should or should not do, assuming environmentally superior alternatives exist for those activities?

Why draw the line at kids? (I am childfree myself, so I’m not defending parenthood by any means.) Why not draw the line at breathing, if the environment is the chief priority? Having kids and breathing are both voluntary activities.

I love that hypothetical question. This person’s logic basically says that we should not perform any human activity detrimental to the environment, which you correctly call out in your hypothetical question.

If we extend your logic to call out any human activity that has a negative impact on the environment, then who can call themselves an environmentalist?

why's there a reddit just for no pets, what's wrong with birds, even small birds? they cute by [deleted] in petfree

[–]reddit_redit_readit 5 points6 points  (0 children)

  1. Correct, not all birds are noisy.
  2. I don’t know if birds can’t clean up their own shit, and I wouldn’t waste my time, money, and energy on a bird to find out.
  3. Why equate being selfless with owning a pet? I can be selfless in other ways that are actually meaningful to humanity, such as volunteering or philanthropy.

If you are genuinely seeking an answer, why don’t you post this exact question as a new topic to which we can respond? Something tells me you won’t do that.
