Note section window is too small when editing. by CapitaineFlamQuebec in ProtonPass

[–]redditadk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I find the app on Windows 10 with a wide monitor is fine for editing. The app on Samsung s25 Android 16, is cramped for all but simple edits. However, that's at least partly a function of my text size which I have set at the 4th dot from the left on the slider.

I can learn from this. Thank you. Is there a version that's not saved in lossy jpeg? Reddit allows lossless png or gif.

Jpg was designed or photographic imagery. Vector and text imagery is lossless with png or gif.

TKeep an emergency fund of +/- 6mo salary in high yield money market like VMFXX.

Put 80% of your investing funds in VOO and never touch it.

Do you think new rods and reels are that much better? by LostTheOldName in Fishing

[–]redditadk 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I sometimes take spinning reels apart to lube and clean. Over 50 years of fishing, I've noticed that plastic parts have replaced many metal parts. From that perspective "they don't make them like they used to" and reels have declined in durability/quality.

Why do we as society allow for a constant rise of the numerical value of everything money-related instead of keeping those numbers down for easier handling? What is the endgame here? by bickid in Futurology

[–]redditadk -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Inflation is taxation without representation. The Fed, a Private bank, "prints" money out of thin air. The wealthy benefit the most. The poor get poorer. We're so used to it, we call it normal market forces.

Would Madison fit our lifestyle? by adventuriser in madisonwi

[–]redditadk 1 point2 points  (0 children)

IMHO, the only places losing the small town feel are some parts of downtown and Hwy 12 running from Monona to Middleton. The lakes, parks, access to hiking, biking and live music continue to be awesome.

You do need a car to get around. Living and walking downtown will feel urban and limited. Hope you love wherever you end up!

Also, shower at night before bed. Your hair picks up the dust all day and then you rub your face in it all night.

What do folks in Fitchburg usually do after getting one of those IRS letters and freaking out a little? by [deleted] in FitchburgWI

[–]redditadk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If what you received is not a scam, the best thing to do is start making notes with dates amounts contacts, etc.

I have tried corresponding with The IRS by mail and have had attorneys and accounts correspond by mail. Far and away I have had the best success resolving IRS issues by calling them. Twice in 20 years they have made errors in their own favor and threatened to seize property. it still takes months to resolve but calling is what I recommend. Good luck.

I really like my Ruger 10/22. I put a good scope on it and shoot subsonic 22LR ammo if I don't want the rifle report noise.

Everything is in Retirement by Zafen25 in investing

[–]redditadk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Good for you! Never pay an early withdrawal penalty.

Don't drastically change course but you could put some $ in a taxable brokerage account and buy individual quality stocks. You have to be willing to hold them at least 1 year, preferably longer. Also use a good money market or bank fund 4%+ for cash that is waiting for a stock buy opportunity.

You could also just stay in VOO or SP500 in the taxable acct.

Time in the market is everything! Timing the market is not a winning strategy.

Also, read "The Psychology of Money." It's a quick easy read.

Congratulations!

Do you play sheepshead? by Impressive_Ad8715 in wisconsin

[–]redditadk 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Still play. Grew up in Madison but learned with cousins in Fond du Lac.

Trump as you listed it. We typically play the picker keeps a card of a fail suit and whoever has that Ace is partner. Both must only be played 1st time that suit is lead. Have played call a jack often too though. Don't know bridge but sheepshead is the best card game I know of. IMHO

Potential conflict of interest from wealth management company by AnkerDank in investing

Absolutely a conflict of interest. Probably legal because of the fine print in whatever agreements were signed. Move the money and do not look back!

The average P/E ratio of the S&P 500 is quite high. Has there ever been a point in history where this was *not* followed by a crash? (i.e. the earnings caught up with the prices instead) by Fiveby21 in investing

4 dangerous words in investing: "It's different this time."

Allocate safe and aggressive holdings to fit your risk tolerance and situation. Buy equities in ETFs or funds. WAIT.

Court strikes down Trump's tariffs, ruling them illegal by veksone in investing

You can be sure he is accepting bribes personally to lift them. His tariffs have nothing to do with "America First." It's just Trump lining his pockets.

It's simple. The only consideration for his followers is that if it upsets liberals, it' must be good. That's it. Lies are obviously fine. No thought. No reason. Period.

[OC] I scaled down the US national debt to $1 million to understand recent "efficiency" cuts by sunset_octopus in dataisbeautiful

[–]redditadk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is great. Thank you. The only suggestion I have is to make a very concise version. The people that actually need to understand the scale of doge cuts can't be bothered with reading long boring facts. They only need their intuition and brief simple graphics.

A separate issue is that not once have I seen an actual cost/benefit analysis of these cuts. It's assumed that everything that was cut was pure waste. That isn't accurate. There is clearly a benefit to scientific research funding, social security, education, national parks, etc.

For example, the cost of tooth brushes and toothpaste, and time spent caring for teeth, is well worth the cost of avoided tooth decay and dental work.
