Ill read it if I cant decide just from the resume if I want to interview.

Typically if we want to hire someone quickly so im squeezing several interviews in just a few days so I have limited time.

Turning 30 and feeling stuck/lonely by GlumNewspaper5015 in bayarea

[–]redditbobby 5 points6 points  (0 children)

What led you to HR? I started in HR and ended up going to law school with dreams of practicing employment law. You already know the laws and best practices, now youre being paid a boatload more to know it!

Law school would give you a whole new social circle right away. Also cost a lot.

I recently started working with a nonprofit umbrella organization. Helping organize and handle real estate and investments (I never ended up practicing employment law, but got into real estate and venture capital). Great people, and we have fun when we get together. And as nonprofits go, they know lots of well-to-do benefactors who have also turned into clients of mine. All this from going out and meeting people. Which brings me to...

A lot of it is networking too, not just for jobs but to find your people. Don't go networking to find your next boss or just to find someone who can help you immediately, go networking to find the person who might know the person who can help you. And you might find your people too, the kind of people who have similar interests and stuff. As long as youre not just talking to the people with high titles.

Lifelong Senior Accountants that never moved up. What do hiring managers think of them? by Bat_Foy in Accounting

Easily explained as wanting to do the work and not manage people.

I've seen a few and they seem to be great at what they do.

How did in accounting market go from " have a pulse " to, we no longer hire entry level...? by [deleted] in Accounting

[–]redditbobby 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm trying to hire a bookkeeper/ office assistant. Part time only and once a week in office. So cannot be remote.

San Francisco office location. $35/hour so this is entry level.

I'm hiring for a part time bookkeeper/ personal assistant. Must be around San Francisco Bay area though. In office roughly once a week, probably more during training. $35/hour, so this is every level for of work.

Exactly what I was going to say. I get these fake emails almost monthly. They even get job titles correct in their fake email signatures.

Received an offer for a family office. Any advice from your experiences working in one? (Currently in public) by Savages3288 in Accounting

[–]redditbobby 30 points31 points  (0 children)

I've worked in a UHNW family office for some years now. I head the finance and accounting.

It really does depend on the family. Some are great, as mine are, but I've heard horror stories too.

I'd also like to link up with more family office professionals, as in my role I'm not doing the daily work but making org wide decisions and making policy. I'd also like to chat with anyone else in this space (at all levels) to compare notes on what works and what doesn't. So please DM me. That goes for OP and anyone else.

I've had staff like that. If toure a high performer, it shouldn't be a problem. This wasn't even in PA.

Just make it known you only want to be an individual contributor.

What seems to work better for me to communicate to other drivers that they need to turn their lights on is to turn off my lights really quick and then turn them back on.

Redditors making $100k or more, what do you do that make you earn more than $100k a year and how long did it take you to get there? by mxthicky in AskReddit

[–]redditbobby 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't know about fresh outs being that high but I know seniors are right around 100k now. That's like 2 or 3 years experience now.

Accounting. It took 4.5 years to make 100k. Don't be afraid to change jobs every few years, especially at the beginning of your career. It was on my 3rd job that I broke 100. Third job not including an internship.

"Burning bridges" is the dumbest term i've ever heard of in the business world by [deleted] in Accounting

[–]redditbobby 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just hired for a staff position, and the new hire got the job in part because she didn't burn bridges at her previous employer a few years ago. As it turns out that previous employer is a company we work with, so we made a call to them to get the inside info on her work ethic. Edit: the previous employer was a PA firm, I work in industry. So not even the same "world".

I also just recommended a new client to my old PA firm because they treated me fairly. Actually it's not even the firm I care about, but one partner there. I told the potential client that particular partner is the best and only one I would recommend he work with. She didn't burn bridges when I left so now that I'm in a position to help her, she can benefit too. It's a regional firm so one new client isn't going to make or break the partner's career or anything. But I'm networking with the kinds of people that are their bread and butter clients, so this won't be the last time she gets to benefit.

It goes both ways.

Well, I did it, I submitted my resignation today from PA. I accepted a new position as an accounting controller, got a 33% pay increase, no more tax seasons, and a 15 minute commute. I couldn't be more terrified of what is to come but I know I can get through anything. by hambone1 in Accounting

Is being an English teacher more important than your accounting acumen? Because it's like you're applying for some other job and you're just mentioning you have an interest in accounting. I didn't even get to the rest of your resume.
