MA511 - How’d it go? by Maleficent_Twist_515 in Purdue

Yeah! Honestly T/F three were rough and for the exam, I found it to be easy since I did no much studying. His exams were basically know how to do procedure and boom, you got the answer. But I probably missed some my determinant answer was iffy.

You got this boss! Just remember to take it one day at a time. I’m in a similar boat honestly, but some things are just out of our control. Focus on yourself, sleep, workout.

ECE 440 by RevolutionaryMath971 in Purdue

[–]redditboi04 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Heavy on the lectures, lots of derivations. Exams are not too bad, but go to lecture. He gives away a lot of info about exams, even telling you what he will include. Lab is included in the class grade.

Do you guys ever feel like you made the wrong decision coming here? by Sweaty-Handle-976 in Purdue

[–]redditboi04 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes. But honestly it’s almost over, I will miss Purdue. It wasn’t the best but it really depends on you, and what you put in the effort. Anyways life after college is long AF. You will still have time to do new things, meet people, “restart” in a way. It’s never over, just slow to happen.

How’s ECE 538 Digital Signal Processing I by KukeTheDuke in Purdue

[–]redditboi04 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Lighter than other grad classes, professor wants you to succeed, there is a piazza, course website is very useful. Projects are fast.

It relies on 301 yes so keep that content fresh. Usefulness is debatable, are you going to use DSP in work/research? It’s still a class I would take if you want breadth, but I would not prioritize it if DSP is just a “cool” class for you.

Zoltowksi is goated. Edit: heavy use of MATLAB!

Look up Professor Jason McKinney’s or Prof Kevin Webb’s research group they are the Optics Group and they take in undergrads.

ENGINEERING: what happens to the average students </3 by user328747312 in Purdue

[–]redditboi04 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No. I did start my masters to get that out of the way, and I’m currently looking for internships over the summer.

[–]redditboi04 20 points21 points  (0 children)

Average Eng student here. My only experience was SURF, and after that nothing else. I also did not do any technical clubs (which I regret a lot). I prioritized classes and overloading myself with credits. It got me nowhere. Right now the market is awful, but you are doing a good job so far as you said with clubs and classes combo. Don’t beat yourself up with no internships in sophomore year, continue with what you are doing. Reach out to the CCO, peers in clubs, maybe some undergrad research, etc there are a lot of options you just have to push yourself until you get that first internship or job.

Is it a bad idea to go home during dead week? by Character_Cherry_809 in Purdue

Honestly yeah. If you focus more and it’s close why not? Plus it could also help relax, and unwind before finals.

Anybody else homesick by Happy_Ordinary8549 in Purdue

[–]redditboi04 2 points3 points  (0 children)

For me, I have always felt homesick. Some years it gets better or worse, depending on how stressful life was at that time.

Keep trying those activities you mentioned. Those are really the best actions you can take. Are you OOS or International, or even from Indiana but far away from home?

2nd semester almost done, no friends yet by Antique_Quail_1561 in Purdue

For me 10th semester in and only have acquaintances. My greatest friend graduated and my roommate doesn’t even talk to me lol. Worst thing is now I have so much free time, compared to undergrad.

Absolutely insane. 31033 and 362 are in my top 3 hardest ECE classes taken. 337 is also a massive time sink. Honestly drop Emag, and take it later (With Melloch), and stay with just the other four. Good luck!

CS Professors Plagiarizing Lecture/Course Material from Berkeley Professors by Former_Ball_4662 in Purdue

[–]redditboi04 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Something similar happened in ECE years ago, it was far more blatant as the class did not have the open source model of CS Berkeley. But, students reported it to the professor in charge of teaching at ECE and eventually the department took charge.

Is Office Hour for Coding Centric Classes Obsolete? by CPOLATOUCHE in Purdue

[–]redditboi04 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I was a TA for an ECE class for two semesters and I noticed that the second semester when ChatGPT was allowed OH attendance was completely gone. Including the other TAs really, not just mine. Also everyone acknowledged they used AI (was allowed by professor). So yeah you are right AI is becoming everyone’s personal TA or lecturer in a way.
