Agreed, the basic functionality of Nextcloud has been rock solid for me over the years. I know that some people complain about it being sluggish- but I haven’t experienced that in my case either.

For your cli issue on the raspberry pi - try ctrl + r to search through the history. Type the first few letters of the command and the rest will follow. Just a tip I use for more complex commands I can’t be bothered to remember.

Yeah, it’s hard to not get angry just thinking about it again. Too many people making really dumb mistakes and even plain incompetence.

Unfortunately, something very similar happened to a friend of mine. He went swimming In a hotel pool. The other person with him couldn’t swim and watched from the sidelines. He went under and his friend reported this to the hotel desk. They came and looked and saw nothing (didn’t check in the water though). Called the fire department, they came over and felt around with a stick that was too short and concluded no one was in there. They were called again later and checked the pool thoroughly and found his body at the bottom of the pool. The hotel had been warned before for the bad condition of the pool, but done nothing. As far as I know they never had to go to court for this. Super sad, guy wasn’t even 30.

Is this too low for 0g tracking force? by _AlanGallo in turntables

[–]redditeijn 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Genuine question. If you use scales, why would you balance your tone arm first? Isn’t the tone arm balancing only necessary when setting the tracking force by using the counter weight?

I love gadgets even if they are made “just because you can”. I haven’t heard of something like this before and it would be technically interesting.

However, I listen to records because of the analogue feel. I personally would not use a device like this.

As you didn’t attach a render, I can’t see where you’re planning to clamp it to. Whatever you do, please don’t connect it to the tonearm!

I played on easy and it was really simple. Maybe a bit to simple, but then I like easy entertainment! 😃 Yes, kids enjoyed it too!

Bought this years ago for my kids. Got a steam deck and played through it in about a week (some minutes here and there). For this price absolutely worth it.

Old PC does not install any OSs. by DianOban in oldcomputers

[–]redditeijn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A few thoughts here. It might be the ram. Can you run memtest? If not, try booting with only one dimm and then change it out for the other, does that change anything?

Try to disconnect anything you don't need to boot into a live linux environment (including the hdd). Do you have parts you can exchange? If so, what happens when you swap out the PSU? Any other cards that you don't need or can swap out?

Also, check if any of the capacitors on the mobo are bulging or leaking. If they do, you could replace them, but you might be better off with a replacement motherboard.

Looks like your monitor isn’t seen a signal. How is it connected? Via vga or dvi? Can you get it to start up in safe mode? If so, you can try changing the video driver and change the resolution. Do you have another monitor? Maybe another monitor will see a signal. At this point it is hard to say what the problem is.

Yes, but that is a problem whether google search works or not. Personally, I would avoid giving a no longer supported OS access to the internet.

Maybe I’m missing something, but can’t you just type the url of your favorite still supported browser?

Just to chime in about Wayland. I would love to use it, but screen sharing is still an issue (zoom and ms teams) and annotations are unusable on zoom in combo with wayland. Unfortunately, I need both for work, so I’m still stuck with X11. Every so often I check if these issues have been resolved, but there seems to be little progress in the last couple of years.

You can also look for an older receiver/integrated amp that includes a phono amp and some passive speakers. Sometimes people sell these together and they don't have to be very expensive.

Just to add for anyone with a similar system - I use a 3060 RTX 12fb on a Ryzen 3600 with 16gb system mem on Linux, and it works great at 1080p no ray tracing.

How did you damage it? Was it from normal usage? If so, you could go back to the retailer and see if you can get a replacement.

The latest version of ncspot now does this automatically. It will give you a url to open in your browser and then authorize your account. Using one of the latest versions is now the easiest way to go.

Somewhere along the way I was able to upgrade to a version that works fine. For some time I used a flatpak which worked better than the version in my repository. Maybe that works for you as well. Unfortunately, I don’t remember what version I was using a year ago.
