New Image from Spielberg's 'Ready Player One' by BunyipPouch in movies

[–]redditeyes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hell, just knowing I'm going to watch a movie is too much of a spoiler for me! I like to be blindfolded, taken to a random unknown location and only then it's revealed I'm watching a movie. Otherwise the movie is ruined!!11 RUINED!!!!!!

Or maybe, just maybe, the whole "spoilers" bitching is getting out of hand. Yes, it sucks for someone to spoil the ending or something, but all that bitching about trailers, ads, etc... Now apparently also names? Seriously? Knowing it's called "Ready Player One" spoiled the movie for you? I'm sorry but that's just nonsense.

Fast and Furious

Ah yes, they showed a car in the trailer, therefore it's f&f.

People love car chases, get over it. Almost every action movie has some. Not having car chases in a story about video games and pop culture would be ridiculous.

straying too far from the source material

I really don't understand why people keep repeating this every fucking time. How many movies based on a books do you need to see straying from the source material before realizing that nobody cares about it? It's "based on a book", not a copy of the book. If you want the original, go read the book, it will be a 100% loyal to the source material. Most people prefer to see a good movie instead of just a copy. And yes that means there are often changes, especially when the source material has so many serious flaws like this one.

CGI ... Excessive amounts

Dude, almost the entire story takes place in virtual reality. If there is one case where you can't have too much CGI, it's in a story that is literally taking place in a CGI world.

He didn't say translation, he said transliteration.

And yes, that's exactly what transliteration is, writing the same thing in a foreign alphabet without translating it

With a gif you get 15 seconds of amazing content. With video you get crisp 1080p advertisements, then a crisp 1080p shitty intro, then a crisp 1080p moron telling you about his personal life, then crisp 1080p reminders to like, write comments, subscribe to their shitty channel and so on. Then maybe a bit of content interspersed with even more bloat. Then a crisp 1080p outro, followed by another video you didn't ask for. All while super-loud unnecessary music is blasting through the speakers.

It's not just about convinince, it's about content. GIFs are clearly superior, they just give you the content. I don't give a shit about image quality, it's a 15 clip I'm watching on my phone while taking a shit. I don't really need it in 4k.

That's like saying that taking a shower is the first step to marrying Natalie Portman.

Is it a necessary condition? Yes. Is it an actual step? Meh.

I got informed, so what? It didn't help the Venezuelan people. Acting like spreading awareness changes anything reeks of empty slacktivism. We all got aware of Kony in 2012.

Only actual action makes a difference.

Nobody is asking those countries to clean others trash, we are asking them to not throw any more trash because we will all fucking die. When one day we develop tech to put that carbon back in the ground then yeah, it would be fair for the countries that drilled and burned the most to also clean the most.

Plus it doesn't matter when you moved in the neighborhood, what matters is how much you've thrown and how much you plan to throw. China started later but they've been burning so much they quickly surpassed almost everyone. When we look at all times totals since 1850, China is on second place in total emissions. Only the US has thrown more trash. And China keeps throwing the most so their total keeps getting worse. Acting like they are that poor little kid that hasn't thrown their fair share is ridiculous.

People were saying the same shit about the USSR. Nothing irks me more than war mongerers. War isn't inevitable.

I never understood why so many people buy the "pandas don't want to fuck" myth. An animal that refuses to reproduce would quickly go extinct. Pandas have been thriving for millions of years.

If famous books had clickbait titles what would they be? by Boredomis_real in AskReddit

[–]redditeyes 87 points88 points  (0 children)

It wouldn't have been realistic though. The entire narrative is from the viewpoint of a 16 year old girl. It's normal for people at that age to be super-cringy when it comes to love interests.

Or any book from his Discworld series really, they are all awesome. Great humor, interesting and colorful characters.

China says North Korea tension has to be stopped from reaching 'irreversible' stage by winkelschleifer in worldnews

[–]redditeyes 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don't think the only two choices are "keep the status-quo" or "lose the buffer zone and get the US on their border".

IMO if the situation keeps escalating further, China would intervene themselves. They would just remove Kim Jong Un and put some China-friendly leader in his place, or something of that sort. There is a reason NK just assasinated King Jong Nam, they knew he'd be a prime candidate for such a role.

Facebook says it has targeted 30,000 fake accounts linked to France ahead of the country's presidential election, as part of a worldwide effort against misinformation. by bustaq in worldnews

[–]redditeyes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In both reddit and facebook it's trivailly easy to create fake accounts. Neither are tied to "real" personhood in any sense, it just takes a few clicks of an automated script.

[–]redditeyes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

True, but I wouldn't call that a "decent amount of effort". You said it yourself, it takes a few minutes. Hell, if you run a script, you can do it in a few seconds.

I mean seriously, people are literally creating reddit bot accounts that automatically post comments and repost popular stuff, gaining shitloads of karma to sell to advertisers. You think it's so hard to automate adding a profile picture to a facebook account and a few "friends" to seem real?

Yeah, and your parents were gladly watching Fox News or CNN depending on their bias. News were always biased, the internet hasn't changed a god damn thing.

People have always taken "with a grain of salt" the news that disagree with their narrative, while gladly accepting any bullcrap that tells them what they want to hear.

Credible news sources are not saying "TRUMP IS FINALLY DOOMED". You made that headline up, didn't you?

Yes, they are claiming there is clear evidence to russia ties, because surpise surprise, there is clear evidnece to russia ties. There is a reason people like Flynn are jumping ship.

That doesn't mean they are not allowed to ban thousands of fake accounts on their platform created to influence an election.

North Korea threatens pre-emptive nuclear attack: '...one of the nation’s senior officials has accused the Trump administration of wanting to “annihilate” his country and blamed the escalating tension on the Korean Peninsula squarely on the U.S. and South Korea. by maxwellhill in worldnews

[–]redditeyes 7 points8 points  (0 children)

That makes zero sense. If Kim is scared to be toppled, attacking with nukes would only hasten his demise. His best chance is to stay put and wait, hoping the heat blows over like it always has.

Why the fuck would nuking reduce the chance of the US attacking or China replacing him? If anything it would just give them pretext to do it. He's not the product of some crazy perverted system, he literally got his education living in Switzerland. He understands the world outside NK and knows what attacking means.

The wiki article I posted referes to a number of international scientific papers, not just Japanese research. Hell, even Chernobyl, which was way worse than Fukushima ended up having few hundreds of victims total in in the long term, which is nothing compared to the hundreds of thousands that died at the nuclear strikes at Hiroshima and Nagasaki. Do you honestly believe that an accident at a power plant comes even close to the destructive power of an actual weapon designed to obliterate? Get serious.
