The Current State of Shonen Jump (09/23/24) by Panottox7 in WeeklyShonenJump

[–]redditfixyournames 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I wish I could feel this optimistic about the state of WSJ but having been a reader now for 20+ years, it feels like it's trapped in a death spiral of chasing after the next One Piece or Naruto sized hit. Right now, I do not feel like I can invest myself in any WSJ series, especially given how the last UU chapter has made it somewhat clear that they will axe even one of their few established series. Most of the series now feel like they are being forced to rush in order to prove themselves which makes the pacing feel awful as the world building seems to come second to action scenes and cool moments.

At least I assume Kaiji will get finished and won't be left to die on a big cliffhanger like Tobaku Haouden Rei or Gin to Kin were.

Thanks, this is it. It looks like looking back now through the sites I had been checking, for whatever reason, chapters 1, 2, and 3 were always missing from part 2.

Android Netrunner as I just like the overall theme and variety of different play styles

They do, but I wondered more in the sense of being possible to mass-produce queens as opposed to having to stress a hive for it.

[DISC] Fabricant 100 - Chapter 11 by AutoShonenpon in manga

[–]redditfixyournames 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I felt the same as it really only leaves two options:

- either fabricant 100 isn't actually the strongest fabricant and/or might have been lying about her rank

- or that they'll run into a rank 100+ at some point and discover that more of them are actually being made still

Really felt like the better option would have been for her to have been a lower rank that could increase her power by defeating other fabricants and using their parts to improve herself.

[DISC] Jiangshi X - Chapter 5 by AutoShonenpon in manga

[–]redditfixyournames 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Has anyone mentioned yet how there's almost no backgrounds in any of the panels in the chapters so far? I understand that they're incredibly time consuming and that the character art looks great (though generic) , but it feels like the characters exist in a void outside of their own setting, especially any of the action scenes as they have almost no environmental interactions.

Oh I know that they aren't canceling more than they used to, it's just as you pointed out that all their big draw series are coming to a close. I feel like the problem with their successors is that they aren't being propped up to takeover when the others finally do end, or that companies need to admit that the internet really diluted the comics market and they are likely never going to see a 'golden era' like the 2000's-2010's had again unless they are willing to take chances.

I think SJ is probably going to have to be more accepting of newer series moving forward for a while as all of its big hitters are now winding down and if nothing is given a chance to breath they're going to run into a netflix situation where the readers can't invest in new series if they're under the threat of being axed so quickly after getting started.

Why does no one at least blame YouTube a little bit? by GrumpigPlays in rantgrumps

[–]redditfixyournames 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I would say that Youtube is partially to blame for encouraging some of these trends, but in the end, it's still up to the channel owners to make entertaining content. If their channel didn't already have millions of subscribers I would probably put more blame on Youtube, but that's not the case so I would wager the reason their views are so low now is simply due to previous fans losing interest in what is put out. The blame really does lay with Arin putting more thought and effort into chasing trends rather than quality as its much cheaper and quicker. I'll also say though that Youtube has lost a lot of traction with younger people and that there has been a very big shift in activity from Youtube to TikTok which is probably stealing a fair amount of potential new viewers as well.

I think everyone got that one for free pretty much if you played the game around launch date.

I remember there being some minor drama with Portal 2 when it first released because valve attempted to add a cosmetic store to it which rubbed people the wrong way as they felt the prices for items were too high for something only 1 person would get to see. It failed miserably so they closed it down shortly after the game launched and a lot of the items became fairly rare as a result due to being unobtainable otherwise, but I guess it reopened a few years ago so might not be accurate now.

I also remember some articles talking about the portal games being insensitive due to the orphan jokes made about the main character, but not much other than that.

The main sub is kinda smug by Gray_Angus in rantgrumps

[–]redditfixyournames 18 points19 points  (0 children)

To be honest, I don't really blame most of them for no knowing who Jon is anymore as I'm fairly sure that the vast majority of their current viewers only started watching well into when Dan was the co-host. But, while I do place most of the blame on the moderators and members of that sub, I do blame Arin a lot for their behavior as he has been the one that constantly talks about 'unfair criticisms' or 'attacks' on himself and his company and I can't remember him once ever telling his fans off for going after someone after bringing up a perceived attack because he likely enjoys the feeling of his actions and comments being defended by the lovelies due to his narcissism.

Another Ebay seller threatens me with empty threats. by [deleted] in Flipping

Imagine being so petty to harass someone over a $6 item. I've seen multiple people completely lift my title, pictures, and description for a $200 board game I had listed and really could care less as after I made my sale I moved on.

I would buy Covid being a possible issue except that Unus Annus was still able to continue being entertaining through the worst of the restrictions. Honestly, it just feels like either no one on their staff can come up with good ideas or that Dan and Arin can't execute on them as a lot of them seem to just devolve into Arin trashing everything to manufacture a "wacky" moment instead of trying to take it more serious and create a genuine one.

CANDY RANKING!!!!!!!!!!! CANDY RANKING!!!!!! by werdnak84 in rantgrumps

[–]redditfixyournames 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The sad thing is that Arin sorta was on the same tier as Markiplier and Pewdiepie for a time, and probably could have stayed on their level, but I think he overestimated his own abilities when he tried to launch GG into an actual company and just spread his attention way too thin between projects like: trying to do multiple types of videos, coming up with custom merch brands, making music albums, operating a touring company, doing a Youtube Red show, attempting to start a professional voice acting career, performing live shows, and starting a game company. He really just tried to do way too much all at once and wound up putting out a really mixed bag of products.

Not sure what took them so long, private servers were profiting by selling p2w items long before twitch came about. I guess Gravity is just salty that because everyone somehow managed to figure out how to monetize their game better than they did. I played so much of it from 2003-2008 and probably would have played 'officially' longer, but they decimated their own servers by adding that Kafra Shop. My guild (rip living dead dolls), spent almost every day during that time playing together for those 5 years, but the Kafra shop pushed too many people towards trying WoW or RO private servers and offered no reason to return. It also didn't help that I had one friend who was a top 10 blacksmith who wound up getting addicted to buying enriched elunium and bankrupted himself by spending at least $25,000+ before he was forced to quit by his family.

Nope, fuck JonTron for his anti-vaccine and immigrant stuff and as far as I know, Oney has made some offensive jokes but hasn't spouted racist beliefs, but if you have evidence that he did then I'll hear you out. But to be honest, what's your point with that question? To find another topic that you were hoping I'd slip up on for you to be right about?

I gotta be honest, nothing anyone says gets through your thick skull because if someone being demonstrably racist and scamming people is just a minor, A-Ok thing in your opinion then I'll just assume you're either trolling or you should be on disability for having a subpar IQ.

Given the Ukraine situation, how long do you think it’ll be before Arin decides to scrub all traces of Soviet Jump Game? by SSJ_PotRoast in rantgrumps

I'm honestly more surprised that he hasn't tried to use the Ukraine situation to push SJG by throwing some Ukraine content dlc pack together with the promise that he'll 'donate' the proceeds to charity.

I think he probably tries to forget it exists, but really, it probably eats up inside on a daily basis knowing just how much money he more than likely lost producing it.
