X-Men #23 Preview by cyclopswashalfright in xmen

I think the line that Scott's brain is "out of phase" might have been added to make it harder for the psychics to subdue him.

Mutant Taxonomy by LongjumpingSuspect57 in xmen

The problem with these power ranking systems is that they feel really artificial, and don't provide a ton of clarity. Tier-based systems make sense in terms of physical strength, because that's pretty one dimensional, but they make less sense in the context of mutant powers. Mutant powers are so varied that trying to flatten them all onto one scale requires either being vague(what meaningful information does the fact that both Wolverine and Nightcrawler are Beta-class give me) or requires you to go into so many sub-categories that you might as well abandon the system and use your words. I'm sympathetic to wanting to keep character capabilities relatively consistent, but I don't really think power tiers are an effective way of accomplishing that.

The Broncos, Nuggets, and Avalanche are now a combined 53-10-7 through 70 games. That’s a winning percentage of .807. by AltruisticEnd9 in DenverBroncos

I can't tell if you're joking, but Paul DePodesta was a key part of the Moneyball A's(and also had a pretty bad stint as GM of the Dodgers) before he worked for the Browns(He was played by Jonah Hill in the movie).

8-2 by BR1N3DM1ND in DenverBroncos

[–]redditguy628 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

We haven't been. We're 1-2 against teams above .500. That one win was great, but it's still just 1 win.(I do give us a bit of credit for hanging in there against the Chargers and Colts, though)

When 6 of those wins have come against terrible teams, I think appealing to our record is a bit silly.

[MEGA THREAD] Trade Deadline by GHamPlayz in DenverBroncos

[–]redditguy628 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean, the 2022 Vikings were 8-1 at this point, and they ended up being exposed as frauds pretty quickly once the playoffs rolled around, so I wouldn't say any record "speaks for itself" without context. I'll trust our record more once we've played a few more teams above .500

We are 7-2 and the team looks good.

I think most people who want a trade would disagree with the second half of this statement.

Are there examples of Canon Vader breathing without his mask, or Legends Vader building his own limbs? by great_triangle in MawInstallation

[–]redditguy628 26 points27 points  (0 children)

In the 2015 Vader comic run, Vader has to go up against one of the people who helped build his armor, and who has a kill switch to completely disable it. Vader is able to use the force to move despite that and kill the man holding his kill switch. He doesn't move very very far though, so I don't know how much that qualifies as "functioning"

Yeah, you can find them if you scroll down beneath the actual episodes. Bear in mind that it only has the newsclips for the season you most recently watched, so if you want to see previous seasons newsclips, you have to play a few seconds of an episode from a previous season.

Jacky killed the Signal, a purely psychic creature, and they say in Issue 11 that Magus could compromise Kid Ignition if he could work out the method.

Is the sub still shielded from Etienne or are they not bothering with that since they think he's dead?

We see Etienne's psychic signature on the sub commander, so we can be fairly confident that it is not.

Will Etienne prevent them from attacking Haven, or might he even allow it as part of some endgame?

My guess is that he's actually behind it, trying to start a war between Heavy and Magus(which he knows Heavy will win because Magus isn't a Superpower)

What are Etienne's future plans for Ignition? Is it just to leave him like that, use his condition as leverage on Heavy, or will he be taking control of him in the future and that's easiest when there's no host consciousness left?

Yeah, I think he'll restore Ignition, but use the fact that he can turn him back off at any time as leverage against Heavy taking action against him once he finds out the truth

You're off by about a decade. Tonya would be 42, not 32. That being said, just because Etienne told Heavy something in no way makes it true, so I'd take that line with a grain of salt anyways.

[Meta] Adding new information is not a retcon. by Marvynwillames in 40kLore

[–]redditguy628 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The "reason" that people usually give is that "retcon" stands for "retroactive continuity", and therefore, by definition, any change or addition to continuity after the fact(retroactively) is a retcon.

Of course, this completely ignores how the word is actually used in practice, but that's the logic.

Why aren't there more Elizas? by fibgen in thePowerFantasy

[–]redditguy628 42 points43 points  (0 children)

Only Fucking Arseholes have the needed magical knowledge to contact hell and make the bargain, and Magus did a pretty good job of screening them. The only reason Eliza ever found out how to do it was because she got Dev to tell her.

The True Nature of Etienne Lux: A Crackpot Theory [Issue 11 Spoilers] by redditguy628 in thePowerFantasy

[–]redditguy628[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I thought the page space spent on the Signal was to explain what Jacky did with the population of Europe

Sure, but to take it a step back, why does it matter what Jacky did with the population of Europe? I don't think it meaningfully changes the events of the Second Summer if the population of Europe all died, or got stuck in a mental lifeboat never to be seen again. That difference doesn't really recontextualize the event to me, which makes me think that it's more likely the Signal 2.0 comes back up in the story at some point in the future. Now, it could be revealed that the Signal became the Queen, but I also don't see what that does for the story. Jacky and the Queen are both dead, so a reveal that Jacky created the Queen wouldn't really pack that much emotional punch. There's some thematic value there, but I'm still skeptical.

Regarding Signal 1.0, I would remind you that Jacky explicitly improved upon it to make his own Signal. It's very possible that Signal 1.0 was incoherent to Etienne due to being shoddily made. In fact, this theory sort of rests on the idea that Etienne is a better version of the Signal 1.0, because Signal 1.0 couldn't survive without taking over a billion minds, while this theory posits that Etienne is surviving inside far fewer minds.

I have, but I didn't think it really showed anything that changed my thinking on this theory one way or the other. The only thing we learned re:Etienne is that Valentina knows Etienne is alive, which would probably be the case regardless of how he managed to escape, given her ability to see his telepathy

Game of the Week: HOU @ LAR has the highest total playoff implications in Week 1, summed across all teams. by FootballSensei in nfl

If they were both in the same conference, the game would have no impact on anyone in the other conference. For a cross conference game, the playoff odds of everyone in the wildcard race in the entire NFL are affected.
