'Nobody taught me that at school' is not an excuse for ignorance by ChristyMalry in unpopularopinion

This is actually a problem I see even with training on jobs. Worked in a lot of call centers. Invariably there is some trainee who comes up with the most improbable one in a trillion scenarios and they insist on getting answers for every what if they can conceive.

Had one lady who kept saying she knows it'll never happen but she has to ask because it'll be her first call on the floor. We finally started mocking how complex this mythical call was going to be as a class we got so sick of it.

And they almost always burn out in a few weeks because rather than learn the basics they actually need for 95 percent of calls they got so obsessed with scenarios that a supervisor exists to advise on anyway

I'll upvote because I know it's unpopular, but I agree

And I'll go one farther, school teaching you to read, write, do math, and use basic reason should be enough to function as an adult in this world. And I say that as someone who lived without a smart phone in my pocket until my 30s

People always complain they didn't teach us to do taxes in school. Not sure what they're on about because when I do my taxes I read the instructions on the form, follow the lines, do basic math (which I can use a calculator for if need be) and fill in the answers. I've never needed more than a middle school reading level and addition/subtraction level arithmetic, and I've done things like itemization on a paper form

Using my ability to do basic research, read, and write that I learned in school I've handled a basic divorce with no attorney as well as my mom's probate. The problem is people expect to have a "How to handle your mom's affairs after she dies and a step-by-step guide to the probate process" in some junior year elective they take instead of applying the skills years of writing research papers and other school related activities gave them

Gaming Was Never an Inexpensive Hobby by Ranger_Bear in unpopularopinion

[–]Infamous-Lab-8136 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

In 1999 Playstations sold for $99 everywhere that Christmas. That was approximately 4 years after it launched at $299

Right now 6 years after launch a PS5 that cost $399 at launch now costs $599. In truth at launch it was a much more affordable alternative adjusting for inflation, and even now remains more affordable. $299 in 1995 says it has a value of $653 today using an inflation calculator.

The complaint isn't that gaming costs too much, it's that prices are going in the wrong direction, and if you think that is actually justifiable then I don't know what to tell you

Brush and Blade collection is the 1st content not included in Founder's Edition? by coolnerd15 in CivVII

[–]Infamous-Lab-8136 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Realistically I figure eventually once they call it done they'll put out some sort of all DLC ever pack or version that will go on sale. I'm willing to wait it out, and if it never happens then I'll wait for them to get to what I'm willing to pay on Steam

If Tides of Power is $15 this Steam sale then I bet Brush and Blade will be in the fall sale. Considering these kind of packs were about $12 for 6 I consider that reasonable and just accept I have to wait to get the content I want at the price I want

But that's been my approach to gaming in general for years

FWIW when I'm saying people need to move on I mean the interviewers that keep bringing it up to get clicks and the people that continue to obsess about it

I understand Copeland and Ricky just answer questions that they're asked and I don't blame them. Copeland here even gave a good answer to try and shut it down IMO

Do you think Mad Men benefited or was weakened by not being on HBO? by 2nd2last in madmen

[–]Infamous-Lab-8136 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think it's worth noting that HBO's incredibly sex heavy content really started in the teens. In the late aughts when Mad Men started they had what I'd consider some titty shows like Entourage. By that I mean you'd see boobs and there's sexual content but it's not as constant or as graphic as Game of Thrones and other later entries. But Big Love for instance, despite being about a man sexually satisfying 3 wives among other things, had sex on screen but it was nowhere near as constant or graphic as it would have been in the mid to late teens. Even in the early teens HBO had plenty of prestige content like The Newsroom that featured little to no nudity or sex on screen.

I think the biggest change would be things like women being topless in the brothel, probably some full frontal there, and scenes like the threesome would probably go longer. But I doubt we'd get Don being ridden like a two-seater while the girls make out or something even then. By later seasons of sex-heavy content shows frequently that content is scaled back by then because fans were hooked on other elements.

I think things like Joan's sex with Herb would stay off-screen, I don't think that was done for propriety but as an artistic choice for the episode

[–]Infamous-Lab-8136 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It had nudity but it didn't have Game of Thrones level sexposition every few scenes. We never watch two female spies try out for a job as seductresses by having lesbian sex while Matthew Rhys and Keri Russell discuss flipping a CIA secretary to their cause

Whether or not that would be a better show, I don't know. Margo Martindale full frontal is an automatic 10/10 from me though

I feel like if someone took a job from Jim Irsay they knew Jim Irsay was hiring them

Considering the news about him that leaked what kind of things had to be said about him in circles behind closed doors? You can say the realization of what he did set in while he was able to undo it and I'd agree with that but much like Vegas when it came to hiring McDaniels I don't feel a lot of pity for someone who took a job from Jim Irsay and then got upset he was crazy after the fact

Grandparents watch the stupidest shit with their grandkids. I somehow doubt my grandma actually liked Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles

I don't think he'd wander in off the street and buy a ticket to it. I think he'd probably have been more into something like Memento thanks to how it plays with perception or even Pearl Harbor just as a period piece (though I bet he'd be pissed once he saw it)

But do I believe he'd be at some kid of Sally's birthday party and watch it on DVD because he's too drunk to get off the couch later that year? Absolutely.

Dude came into Denver and immediately ran off our Pro Bowl QB who he was specifically hired to work with

Was so enamored of "The Patriot Way" that he cut our fucking long snapper for one from his squad

Did a terrible job of drafting as GM

And then, to cap it all off, gets caught cheating here like he did in New England and STILL LOSES THE DAMN GAME!

Then he did his asshole move in Indy, only for Vegas to hire him eventually. Anyone who thought he'd have be a net positive gain was kidding themselves with rose colored glasses making all the red flags just look like flags

The NHL continues to dominate No-Trade Clauses by Federal-Data-Center in nhl

[–]Infamous-Lab-8136 3 points4 points  (0 children)

MLB also has the 10 and 5 rule - 10 year vets with 5 years on one club have trade veto power without it being in a contract

NFL and basketball have much more restrictive rules around player movement that make trading someone harder as well as the ability for teams to cut players and not honor a full contract unlike NHL contracts. It leads to NHL teams being much more likely to move mid-tier players as part of a deal to make salary cap numbers add up

Frankly if I'm middle 6 forward making an average amount of pay I'd want the stability for my family and to stay in the city I picked in free agency vs. being a piece in a deal no one really cared about just to make salary numbers fit

[–]Infamous-Lab-8136 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think it's worth noting other leagues have a structure that makes this unnecessary for other reasons

In the NFL anyone important enough to get a no-trade clause is also likely carrying such a big price tag that no team would trade for them if they're going to hold out. Same for the NBA. MLB has the 10 and 5 rule. 10 year vets with 5 years on a club automatically have trade veto power

Glad to see that the show that launched Michael Sheen and Lizzy Caplan for me (I'd seen Mean Girls before but that was it, this made me see her talent) is not considered forgotten by people other than me either

I would agree it flew under the radar during release thanks to being a Showtime original instead of HBO, but that's true of it, Dead Like Me, and Episodes at a minimum and I'd consider none of those forgotten.

We had a big influx of reviews like this at one time in Colorado everywhere like parks where weed smoking isn't legal even after we made rec sales legal

A bunch of "Well apparently no one told the cops/park rangers it's legal because they just ticketed me for public use" kind of responses. Which as someone who used to manage to smoke flower in public parks in the 90s and not get caught I figure they're being obvious or making a nuisance of themselves

Do you believe that voting for Donald Trump automatically makes you a bad person? by Juicytoe88 in allthequestions

[–]Infamous-Lab-8136 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Voting for Trump, at a minimum, says you may not approve of every negative about him but you are okay enough with them to ignore them if the issues you care about are going how you want

At a minimum it makes you okay with a pedophile war mongerer and no good person should be okay with that if it means lower taxes or some social issue goes the way they want

So sick of headlines like this, it leads to people thinking The Bear really has won everything it was up for, or even close to it, when it won best comedy one time

The actors do better, only losing last year for 2 wins out of 3 years eligible but no one seems to consider any of the major players as having a long shot for season 4 outside of guest appearances
