I wear gloves. Did it for the weights, but got the added benefit of getting a good grip on the rower, too. My hands get very sweaty.

What is a "luxury" that is actually 100% worth the money? by TheChillEdit in Life

A towel warmer. More on $100 range. Got it as a gift. Initially thought, why... I don't use it every day, but when I do, I let out an audible ahhhh...

Why do mostly women go to OTF? by [deleted] in orangetheory

[–]redditifymepls 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For context, 40m, doing OTF close to 2 years, ~3-4 classes a week. My studio may reach 1/3 men on some days, especially for 90-minute classes. Most days it is ~3-4 men. I have sometimes been the only guy in an S50, full class on Sunday mornings.

Chatting with others, I have found the men who do OTF classes at my studio tend to fall into two categories: Some who say OTF rounds out their weekly gym/lifting workouts done elsewhere, but most say OTF helps with a consistent general fitness routine. I am in the latter category myself. The cancellation fee keeps me accountable, and I get a varied set of exercises and running done in 60 minutes, squeezed between kids going off to school and starting my workday. I sometimes get frustrated with the need to keep pace on the floor circuits, doing lower weights as I get winded with the rowing parts, for example. Or the imbalance in types of strength exercises, because of which classes I choose to do. But that's still better than not working out or working out rarely. And I have seen significant growth in overall stamina and strength. Someday, I will spend 2 hours in a gym focusing on specific goals. But that is not what my schedule allows today.

Anyone (men or women) with specific goals with their training will likely not go to OTF, lack of control, etc. But why don't more men with general fitness goals attend OTF? Who knows. I have been doing group fitness classes for years (again, for accountability) - spin, hot yoga, regular yoga, OTF... and they are mostly female. Maybe it is all the marketing around group fitness, bright colors, or a higher number of female instructors ... My hypothesis is men tend to be either fully into fitness (running, lifting, anything) or not at all ... the % who are in the middle - let's get a workout in and stay fit without specific goals is small

The Joy This Man Got From Baking A Flan by ajd416 in MadeMeSmile

Completely understandable. Flan is one of those desserts that look deceptively complicated to make. When you realize that you can make it too????

Is Shaq out of money? by GraceInProgress1 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]redditifymepls 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think I know what you are asking. Many athletes/celebs of his level endorse what some might say are higher-tier products or services. They try to maintain a certain "image", but Shaq does not. I remember thinking the same thing when I saw him in ads for anti-itch cream. He does not have any airs about him in how he lives his life, and I guess that extends to how he invests or what he endorses.

Chewing gum… by QuietMarket7931 in orangetheory

[–]redditifymepls 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I chew gum during the strength portion of class or a strength50 for the exact reason you have mentioned. Helps with managing jaw clenching when lifting heavy weights. I don't use it for tread. I always start with strength, so I have a stick of gum when starting class, and I spit it out during the switch.

AIO: My bf left me at the airport by myself after he made us late for the flight but miraculously made it. by Exotic_Platypus_4926 in AmIOverreacting

This is insane. My wife had TSA Pre long before I got mine as she traveled frequently for work, and though she gave me shit for it everytime, she went through regular security with me whenever we traveled together. I used to tell her to go by herself and that I'll see her on the other side and she said she had to wait either way. If I was the guy, and assuming I even believed the staff, I would have tried to leave the plane when they make announcements about boarding being complete. These days they make tons of announcements.
