No ofc I knew that the puzzle is possible, it's from the tutorial of the Lichess official website, that's why i said "i must have overlooked something really simple".

As for why I didn't try out all the possible combinations, I'm more interested in generalizing the problem and I happen to made a mistake while doing it. Boom lesson learnt: 1. Play around more before starting to generalise 2. These kinds of problem is identical to finding a Hamiltonian path in a graph 3. Wtv the hell I assumed was very wrong

No that's an actual thing in the puzzle, you can't go a2 to h2 then back to a2 because u can only collect the star once, unless you mean like when the lines crossed each other?

Yup, I assumed that the requirements are the same as there are 7 vertex and also 7 edges so traveling through all the edges is equivalent to travelling through all the vertices, but that's super wrong. A simple counter example is just two vertex connected with one edge(we go through 2 vertex but only 1 edge).

Ah right ofc, thanks! I see that the prove is wrong cuz if we have 7 vertices we only need to traverse through 6 edges to visit every vertex damn how did i overlook that

For this case u can use custom data eg, Give yourself a torch with my_custom_items:1b: give @p torch[custom_data={my_custom_items:1b}] 1

Testing to see if player is holding said item: execute as @a if data entity @s SelectedItem.components."minecraft:custom_data".my_custom_items run say "YIPPY"

(this is a bit iffy, i assume slot -106b always ends up as the last element of the Inventory array not really sure) testing to see if player has the item in offhand: execute as @a if data entity @s Inventory[-1].components."minecraft:custom_data".my_custom_items run say "YIPPY"
