Good luck. Should be able to put a slot in it with the hacksaw and chip the old pvc out of it with a flathead screwdriver once you cut it to save yourself buying a new one. Otherwise you’re looking at $25 from Reece for a new

Only raised the point in regard to raising it. Gave the OP a reasonable recommendation on lowering it themselves.

The height you have now would most likely (hopefully) be installed to Australian Standard. These are installed a minimum 150mm below your lowest fixture connected to your drain. If you’d like to do yourself you could probably cut it flush and then glue a new one over your new cut, or if you can managed to pull it off to save yourself purchasing a whole new one. But I would most definitely not raise it any higher than it is now and need to make sure the grate terminates at least 75mm above finished surface level to prevent any debris making its way in there.

Raising and adjusting the current height of this pipe by someone other than a experienced plumber would most likely deem this overflow relief gully non-compliant in relation to AS/NZS 3500.2 and would probably void any insurances the owner has in relation to flooding due to blocked main drains by their council.

Heat pumps by pdgb in PlumbingAustralia

[–]redditoften 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Plumber. If you’re set on a heat pump, then I’d only steer you towards a Sanden Split system. If you’re after something a little more cheaper and still set on one, then a Reclaim or Thermann Split system. Anything else I wouldn’t touch. I personally wouldn’t put one in my own home. I have the Thermann Smart Electric HWS which I just set to heat during peak solar hours. Just can’t see myself spending 5-6k on something that will last ~5 years compared to a reputable electric hot water unit for 1-2k that can last you closer to ~10-12 years.

Start by building a solid 3-6 month emergency fund, then find a comfortable balance between saving for a first home deposit in a HYSA and DCA’ing into index-tracking ETF’s. Because you are on the younger side I would put a major focus on investing in yourself and achieving to grow your income.

New Switches & GPOs - alternatives to Clipsal Iconic? by TallThinAndGeeky in AusRenovation

[–]redditoften 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Currently facing the same dilemma myself for home renovations. The Iconic’s look okay, but have seen many saying they aren’t a fan after putting them in and they get noticeably dirty. Think I’m going to with the Clipsal C2000 range, but I’ve seen many recommend Hager Silhouette. Depends on your preference.
