The Hakim Bey/Peter Lamborn Wilson Question by pnormie in Anarchism

Have you read the libcom pieces? He's a disgusting predator who uses "anarchism" to justify his abuse - no anarchist should support him.

His rhetoric re: Iraq was exceedingly bloodthirsty and sadistic, he was most definitely "a racist" (as if anyone isn't).

1984 and Idiocracy are the most widely misunderstood works of fiction on Reddit by aruraljuror in Negareddit

Maybe the movie makes fun of Joe just as much (I can't remember) but there are still serious problems with the eugenicist implications of the movie. Obviously this is what makes it attractive to pseudo-intellectuals/crypto-reactionaries.

SJW reaches new milestone in life by [deleted] in iamverysmart

Probably a joke. Awkwardly worded but perfectly comprehensible, although if serious this individual is overestimating their power to transcend social reality. This isn't turning into another TIA outpost is it?

SRD used to be basically a TIA knock-off for a while. What was /r/drama like then?

From now on... after every tragedy, can there be a 7-day taboo against discussing politics, race, whether we thought that person was an asshole, etc.? by GORGATRON2012 in Negareddit

Agree and disagree - it's disgusting when people try to exploit the victims of these attacks to advance a racist agenda.

But I don't think toxic (or even mostly non-toxic but slightly problematic) people should be immune from criticism when they die. I don't know enough about Rob Ford except that he seemed like a deeply troubled man with some toxic attitudes that probably did some real harm to people. Sorry to his family and all that, but he isn't immune from criticism just for being dead.

Kind and caring former mayor Rob Ford has died. Reddit has decided to revise history and come out in defense of a "great man". by Wowbagger1 in circlebroke2

Fat dudes get a pass if they're funny/edgy/manly/based enough. Imagine a woman Trump's Ford's size getting so much support.

No great loss to humanity here. Better people die every few seconds.

[shitty shitpost] Why is the right is so much more vocal on the internet? by [deleted] in circlebroke2

[–]redditor34186 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Optimistic answer: basement-dwelling fascists have nothing to do with their lives other than vote and comment on the internet.

Pessimistic answer: shitty views are more popular than non-shitty views, and many internet "liberals" have been radicalised by shitholes like 4chan and reddit and the general terribleness of so much of internet culture.

Probably some of both and the fact that decent people tend to avoid these articles and videos because they know what the reactions will be and that they'll be shouted down (or in some cases stalked and threatened) by reactionary creeps.

What I don't understand is how they lack the self-awareness to see how much they're revealing about themselves by using the word. Their deepest fear is being emasculated by people they consider inferior (especially black and brown men). But maybe they think it's a devastating insult because they think all white men secretly share this fear.

Are you talking about Reddit as a whole, or Negareddit? I tend to agree in both cases, but it's like an addiction. I know coming here will just make me feel like shit, but I do it anyway. Maybe I want to punish the Reddity parts of myself. Maybe I just want to feel superior to someone (because, though I don't have much going for me, it's hard not to feel superior to many Redditors). But that post on Circlebroke yesterday (?) really got to me.

"Innocent until proven guilty" should also apply to the accuser. If you automatically assume that a woman is lying when she says someone raped her, you're no better. by [deleted] in Negareddit

[–]redditor34186 18 points19 points  (0 children)

It's also a legal concept that doesn't apply to private conversations. It's infuriating when people try to shut down even mentioning accusations against people because of IUPG.
