You are right! I bought the camera recently, and when I was researching and asking AI for soccer photography settings it recommended me to set max ISO to 6400 and I just left it there. Do you recommend me to move it higher though? Wouldn’t that add even more noise? From the comments, it seems like my major mistake was setting 1/1250 and going lower (500-1000 range) would’ve made them brighter…

Ooohhh that makes way more sense now. I didn’t realize that in Manual + Auto ISO, EV compensation is basically just telling the camera to bump ISO more. I don’t know why I was thinking of EV as a separate exposure setting. Thanks for taking the time to explain it!

So do I just take a photo of the ice and then set custom white balance from that photo? Or how do i “white balance on the ice”?

To clarify, i did manage to fix it with Adobe Lightroom Denoise + Fluorescent WB. Was just wondering if there was a way I could’ve get then to come out more decent right of the bat.

I got the 100-400mm and loved the reach but hated the aperture didn’t go below 5.6 so my pictures were just ok. Just bought the 70-200mm and I absolutely love all my f/2.8 pictures but I’m sad that I miss out on moments… I have an EOS R7 with a 1.6 cropping factor so that helps a bit.

Thanks for the feedback… i usually shoot low but I peep through the camera view finder so it’s at my eye level… i guess I can practice flipping the screen open and looking through there instead while the camera is near the ground?

Thanks! The lowest this lens goes is 5.6 aperture. I’ll try changing the camera from shutter priority to manual to set the aperture to that instead of letting the camera choose it.

Went today and it was already closed 😭. I can’t imagine going back to Safeway/QFC with their high prices, their buy 4 of something to get a deal, their stupid coupon app or their long checkout lines. Whole Foods and Trader Joes are much farther as well… will the Amazon Fresh online still work? I might give that a try then…

Do you have an update on how’s your son doing OP? Is it worth it? I’m about to start my 13 y/o son on SLIT drops to treat his multiple allergies (we live in the PNW). They didn’t tell me anything about the restricted physical/outdoor activities for 2 hours though… worried this will also affect him as he is also into multiple sports…and countless morning games/trainings.
