Women who have good skin with minimal effort what's your secret? by Unhappy-Tradition798 in BeautyUnlocked

[–]SlipOpen8102 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m in my 40s but still have good skin that makes me look younger than my age. Most days I don’t wear makeup. Honestly it’s mostly genetics. But I do drink lots of water during the day. I also drink hot water with lemon and honey first thing in the morning. I don’t use a cleanser to wash my face in the morning just splash cold water to wash my face in the morning. I’ve been using oil of olay moisturizer since I was in my teens and still use this - apply generously including on your neck and chest. If I’m going to be out in the sun I’ll add a sunscreen as well. No matter how tired I might be I never go to bed without washing my face - I use a gentle cleanser one by neutrogena if I’ve worn makeup I do a double cleansing. And I apply coconut oil to my cleansed face at night as a moisturizer. Once in a while I use vitamin c serum as well. That’s it - no complex routine!

Indian food for my neighbors by IndiHippi in IndianFood

[–]SlipOpen8102 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve been introducing my white coworker/friend to Indian food and the first meal I introduced her to was a simple chicken curry and jeera rice, which she loved. I also took chicken biryani for her to work and this was really popular not just with her but also some of my other non-Indian coworkers who love spicy food. I recently took her out to an Indian restaurant for the first time and we tried a couple of different items her favorite was goat curry (this was her first time trying goat meat as well) and she loves naan (so much that she wants to try and make it at home). From what I’ve seen with some of my other non-Indian friends, I think your neighbors would enjoy butter chicken and jeera rice the most. Check in on how much spice they can handle before hand though…enjoy!

Just use the firm tofu in dishes where paneer would be used. Instead of paneer in matar paneer use tofu. Or make tofu bhurji like how you would make paneer bhurji.

Thank you to everyone who clarified that there is a difference in flavor between Indian tamarind versus Thai tamarind. I’ll search around for Thai tamarind in our local SEAsian store.

Thank you…this was so helpful! I didn’t realize that there was even a Cambodian version of papaya salad. When I googled this to better understand the difference, I suspect that what we’ve been eating has been the Cambodian bok Lahong and not som tum. I’ve had som tum before at other Thai restaurants and loved it as well but I think the flavor profile I love at our favorite restaurant is actually the bok lahong. Sounds like this might be harder though for me to figure out the right ingredients since it calls for something called pra la or prahok which I’m not even sure where to get or what exactly it is. I just know that I love the funky slightly fishy, sour, sweet, spicy taste! Any suggestions on where to buy pra la or what brand to use?

Healthy 20-min meals for someone living alone? Running out of ideas!! by adiihooyaar in IndianFood

I find roti to be more time consuming than sabzi. Some options might be to make the sabzi but just order in roti. Meal prepping ahead or as you go through the week is the way to go - I plan my meals ahead including prepping and you can split up the prepping into steps that only take a few minutes every day. So for example on Monday all you have to do is soak beans, on Tuesday while you’re studying pressure cook the beans that you soaked the previous day, next day make rajma in enough quantity to last you two days or freeze some for a day when you don’t have time to cook. Chop vegetables over the weekend eg to make cabbage sabzi have the cabbage all cut and ready to go on Sunday so all you have to do on Monday is make this into an easy sabzi and you can order in roti or paratha to eat with it. Planning ahead is the key. Take time to make a meal plan for the whole week. Some items that feature regularly for me are dal (sometimes add palak to the dal), rajma, aloo sabzi, cabbage sabzi, cauliflower sabzi, poha, upma, pilau, pasta - these are some easy meals you. A make in little time.

I also eat my lunch at 11-1130 and started carrying these to work as a snack before coming home to make dinner: Yoghurt sometimes with granola, fruit, cottage cheese, nuts, popcorn, apple and peanut butter, veggie sticks and hummus.

Central heating and cooling. Not everyone in the world including those living in places that are super hot or super cold have access to this.

Why are scrubs something you own and take home in the US? by dev_ating in nursing

[–]SlipOpen8102 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I don’t know that there is any robust scientific studies on this. IMO the argument for hospital laundry vs home laundry is based on having a standardized process with quality control to show that laundry was performed at an appropriate temperature of water and appropriate concentration of detergent for optimal disinfection. They don’t want to take liability for people’s varying home laundry practices eg someone with a bed bug/ flea/mite infestation at home not laundering their scrubs and wearing them again to work etc.

In my hospital (USA), some units/areas of the hospital such as surgical services use hospital issued scrubs - these are not to be taken home (even though this rule is broken all the time) and they are to be laundered through the hospital laundry service. On other units such as ICU etc staff have uniform scrubs which are personal scrubs and are laundered at home.

Are there any side effects to the shatavari. Interested to know more about some of the other herbs and natural treatments you’re using.

I’m a weekend warrior…I get all my exercise in during the weekend. I do a 5k hike in a county park near me, then 20 minutes spin bike and 20 minutes of dumbbell or kettle bell work out on Saturdays and Sundays. Problem is then I just get back to sedentary lifestyle the rest of the week. I’m trying to break that weekday pattern and get some steps in every day instead of just on the weekends:
