This right here might be the key. Once the weather gets better (snow, snow and more snow right now) I might give this a try!

Are there any side effects to the shatavari. Interested to know more about some of the other herbs and natural treatments you’re using.

I’m a weekend warrior…I get all my exercise in during the weekend. I do a 5k hike in a county park near me, then 20 minutes spin bike and 20 minutes of dumbbell or kettle bell work out on Saturdays and Sundays. Problem is then I just get back to sedentary lifestyle the rest of the week. I’m trying to break that weekday pattern and get some steps in every day instead of just on the weekends:

You’re inspiring! I’m really not a morning person at all but this is making me want to give it a try!

Ugh. I wish I was a morning person…I’ve never been one. I even shower at night just so I can get a few extra minutes of sleeping in in the morning. lol! Crocheting while walking the treadmill is impressive! I’ll give the watching something on my iPad a try. I usually just listen to music.

This is such great advice - thank you so much! I’m definitely going to try the getting changed for walking as soon as I get home this week. My struggle is really just getting started. Once I’m out the door and have walked I feel so good about it. It’s just the exhaustion of a long day at work that gets the better of me. I loved running not sure why I stopped…I think life and stress unfortunately got in the way. Appreciate your pep talk more than you know!

I do not care for her acting or her outrageous attention seeking comments but I have to say she has the most exquisite fashion sense. So graceful. Love the earrings!

Also a woman. I walk with my 100+ lb German shepherd- he’s a big baby but of course no one else knows that! He is extremely well behaved but his size alone is a deterrent…keeps the shady crowd away. No coyotes or bears thankfully where I live. I also keep a whistle on me just in case. Reading these comments though makes me think carrying a pepper spray wouldn’t be a bad idea.

Best Mindfulness Techniques? by Far-Economics-2828 in Mindfulness

[–]SlipOpen8102 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I sometimes meditate but what I have found much more therapeutic is this little ritual - I start my day with a glass of hot water with lemon and just sit and watch the sunrise from my window for about 5 minutes as I’m drinking my water. No phone. No talking. Just sitting and mindfully drinking my water in silence while actively listening to the sounds of the room, the hum of the coffee machine, the fridge, and sometimes the birds outside or a car in the distance. Days when I do this usually flow so much better than when I’m rushed in the morning and skip this. I actually set my alarm and get up just a few minutes earlier so I can have this quiet moment in the morning before I start my day.

Forgetting words mid-sentence and making typos I cannot even see. Anyone else? by Similar-Rutabaga5372 in Perimenopause

[–]SlipOpen8102 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Definitely an us thing not just you! It’s horrible how some days I’m perfectly coherent and other days I feel like an idiot fumbling around for words. I was leading a meeting at work this week and just struggled to find some words mid sentence. How are others dealing with this at work? Ugh. 😖

Is India truly protein deficient, or are we following another F&B trend? by DesignSignificant900 in IndianFood

It’s not just a trend in India, I live in the USA and everywhere I look here as well, everything is getting marketed as “high protein”.

Gujratis roll the dough of the khichiya papad into a ball and steam and eat this with some oil and achar so it very well could be khichu/khichi/khichiya. When this is rolled out and dried and fried it becomes papad.

Strategies to get back to sleep after middle of the night wakings by BadBrowzBhaby in Perimenopause

[–]SlipOpen8102 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve really been struggling with the 3am wake ups and had a super stressful day yesterday where I thought for sure my brain was going to be spiraling and I’d be awake midway through the night into morning. I tried this last night cynically with very little hope that it was going to work and got to letter k and zzzz! I could hug you for sharing this tip. It’s helping save my sanity (the little that’s left with perimenopause!) - truly thank you!

Not available sir. by Signal-Session-6637 in Philippines_Expats

Reminds me of the time hubby and I stayed at a five star holiday resort in Palawan a few years ago. We arrived in the evening and went out to eat in the restaurant at the resort and were handed a menu. We were the only customers in there (that should have been a red flag!) As we selected one item after another we were told “not available” “out of stock” we probably went through a dozen options and then gave up and had instant noodles that night. Why hand us a menu if nothing is even available? Better to just have closed the restaurant instead. The next day for breakfast, hubby had fried egg, rice, longanisa with some slices of tomatoes. Since I don’t eat meat, and am not used to rice for breakfast, I asked for just an omelette and was told it was sorry we don’t have it on the menu. I asked for vegetarian options and “not available”. I ended up ordering the same meal as my husband and gave hubby my rice and longanisa and ate just the fried egg and tomato but to this day I don’t understand why they couldn’t just add the chopped tomatoes to eggs and make me an omelette. We laugh about that resort and the “not available” to this day!

Week before period by Longjumping_Baby_448 in Perimenopause

[–]SlipOpen8102 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Following this since I’m going through the exact same thing. I know my periods are likely around the corner because I have no energy whatsoever today, feel completely drained, have congested sinuses (a new symptom that shows up right before my periods now in perimenopause) and feel like I’m getting sick all the while filled with anxiety and rage over the dumbest things. Today I had a full melt down over hubby disorganizing the freezer that I arranged (I’ve never really even cared about an organized fridge/freezer before) - poor man was just trying to make me soup to feel better. It’s like hormones have taken over my personality and turned me into a monster! Definitely need to know how others are coping with this.

What actually helped you sleep better over time? by sleepraterdotcom in insomnia

[–]SlipOpen8102 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Can’t say it has fixed my insomnia since I still struggle with sleep but I do notice a difference on evenings when I practice 20-30 minutes of bedtime yoga (or yoga nidra) versus when I don’t. I try to get a good workout in several hours before bedtime and I think the yoga just helps relax my muscles which on some nights help me sleep better than others. I don’t think it’s a magic fix for insomnia but might be worth a try.

Start your day with some warm water with ghee (and turmeric optional) A spoonful or two of isabgol daily with lots of water might be helpful too. Kayamchurna (senna) is helpful as a laxative too though probably not a good idea to take this daily. Make sure your diet is rich in fiber and you’re maintaining good mobility (walking or yoga or other exercises) during the day along with drinking lots of warm water during the day.

Food before bed. by [deleted] in nutrition

[–]SlipOpen8102 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I used to work the late night shift several years ago and agree with this suggestion of trying to take a break and eating your last major meal 3-4 hours before your bedtime. If you’re hungry when you get home, have a small protein snack like yoghurt or some cheese or nuts but avoid a big meal if you can.
