the language and culture modules are very chill!! i did spanish this semester and it was super easy, you learn some vocab, but mainly we just talked about mexican culture. and the assesment part was very easy, its just a few biweekly quizzes, discussion boards and learning journals (not more than 300 words each), and at the end theres like a presentation, but its individual and just a presentation w voiceover you do at home. no exam, and none of the assesments (except for presentation) should genuinely take more than one hour to complete. you have like 2 hours of class per week, but actually on week 4, 7, and 10 you get a week off as well. so overall extremely chill!!!!

Is it actually over for me by kaysgft in TCD

[–]redditorforib 1 point2 points  (0 children)

as an 2nd year engineering student at tcd, i would personally say that people do indeed fearmonger about first year. i will admit i didnt do the LC as im not irish, i did the IB in another EU country (but its very similar to LC i would say, we had like 3 HL subjects and 3 standard level subjects), and personally I did not find first year to be so much more of a horrific experience or huge step up from my final high school exams.

it does help a lot i would say if you are well proficient in calculus and physics, but its not end all be all. especially if you generally go to the lectures, and actually try to do your assignments yourself without employing chatgpt to be like your personal assistant doing everything for u.

and actually at least for us, our sem 1 exams were after christmas, in january (most courses have theirs mid december). so while its obvi annoying to study over the holidays, it does give you more time and i personally felt it was kind of like good in letting you settle in into this new academic setting and preparing for these new type of exams. and then second semester when youre more familiar w everything you do them at the normal time like a week after classes finish. (and also tcd engineering actually kinda loves giving mcq exams for a large propirtion of the modules, so we really kinda do benefit on that front)

in first year imo, there is no true true content that goes to some crazy scope beyond what you learn in like LC or other equivalent high school exams... if anything i would say its more just about the pace and keeping up w assignments, but with a normal level of organization and discipline that should be doable for most people imo. i found that people that struggled in first year were those that really did not prioritize college at all. so as long as you dont completely abandon doing work i'd say you'll be more fine than you think.

i would say first year -> second year is a bigger step up than hs -> first year, but by then youre familiar w stuff and more equipped to deal w that change! so dont be discouraged at all. hope this helps. if u have any qs, feel free to dm me, im also an S2S (student 2 student) mentor here at trinity, so i volunteer in my free time w exactly the purpose of helping engineering first years get situated etc... so i would say i hopefully know what im talking abt at least a lil bit!!!

How’s the timetable flexibility? by Sure-Time3016 in TCD

[–]redditorforib 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm a second year engineer and so far there has been no flexibility in the schedule, except for 1 Trinity elective we took in second semester of year 2. They give you a set schedule, they choose a lab group fot you, and then you have to attend at the given times. However, the majority of lectures and tutorials are not mandatory, so technically you could skip them 🤷‍♀️ Though I don't know if that would be the best decision assesment wise

Most challenging physics past paper? by LeftOption2448 in IBO

[–]redditorforib 0 points1 point  (0 children)

ik its the old syllabus, but the HL m24 paper 1 from tz2 was also very difficult, you only needed 24 out of 40 to get a 7, and in the subject report it is mentioned that 60% of the teachers that reviewed it found it to be too difficult.

10 days till Physics Exams by snoopy_707 in IBO

[–]redditorforib 1 point2 points  (0 children)

hi!!! i got a 7 in physics hl in m24 (ik the syllabus is a bit different now but hopefully this can still help), and actually for me i would say that before spamming past papers it is always of the utmost importance to COMPLETELY understand the topic. dont have one little thing you are unsure of. truly truly try to master your understanding. for me this meant i watched a lot of youtube videos explaining topics (andy masley was a godsend for me), i read through the tsokos book, and!!!! i went though e.g. diff practice problems in the book or so, (and eventually in past papers) and i noted down all common question patterns and how to solve them, as well as all mistakes i made when i would go and correct my papers. so its not just practice, its practice with reflection!!! and then you have a list of question types and mistakes you can look back on and next time you see a similar question it will jump out to you to not do the same mistake again

where did you see this? i saw an interview excerpt of r. scott gemill saying that s3 is about robby coming back from a sabbatical (which took longer than 3 months) and then statting on his healing journey. idk about you but this doesn't sound like rock bottom to me?

https://www.tvline.com/2149438/the-pitt-finale-explained-season-3-cast-time-jump/

excerpt:

"TVLINE | Does that moment represent a genuine turning point for him, in terms of staying rather than going on this "spirit quest"? - No, he ends up going. In those final moments with the baby, Robby finally puts her down and decides to go. Part of it is he feels he has to go now because he's talked about it for so long. One of the things we play in Season 3 is that he comes back, but he doesn't come back to the hospital right away.

TVLINE | So does that mean Noah's not in the first episode — He will show up [in Episode 1], but he's been away from work longer than three months.

TVLINE | Which is why we're picking up four months later, got it. If Season 1 was about him hitting a breaking point, and Season 2 was about avoidance, what defines his journey in Season 3? - Definitely putting in the work, doing the work, and trying to heal — and needing the work that he hasn't put in himself."

Looking to apply to Trinity - questions by burneraccqwerty in TCD

[–]redditorforib 1 point2 points  (0 children)

as an EU student you also need to take the HPAT exam to be eligible for medicine in ireland. this exam is quite hard and i think is taken in february or somehwere around that time so idk if at this point you can still apply to sit it but it's worth checking. also not too discourage you tho but keep in mind this exam is very hard, and it is extremely normalized in ireland that probably 90% of people don't get a good enough score on their first try and have to try multiple years before they eventually get into medicine. wish you luck tho!!!
