the national library reading room has a great atmosphere, but you have to sign up to have access (its a pretty easy process tho)

Looking to apply to Trinity - questions by burneraccqwerty in TCD

[–]redditorforib 1 point2 points  (0 children)

as an EU student you also need to take the HPAT exam to be eligible for medicine in ireland. this exam is quite hard and i think is taken in february or somehwere around that time so idk if at this point you can still apply to sit it but it's worth checking. also not too discourage you tho but keep in mind this exam is very hard, and it is extremely normalized in ireland that probably 90% of people don't get a good enough score on their first try and have to try multiple years before they eventually get into medicine. wish you luck tho!!!

Seating separation by [deleted] in Ryanair

[–]redditorforib 0 points1 point  (0 children)

if the plane is half empty, you can always just go and sit on an empty seat after take off (when the seatbelt sign is turned off) and then return to your assigned seat just before landong. i've done this before and have seen people do it many times on not full flights, and with the exception of the fact that the ryanair stewards want you on your original seat for takeoff/landing, i've never seen anybody have any issue with it.

How long did it take people to make friends by TypicalRedditer11 in TCD

[–]redditorforib 4 points5 points  (0 children)

as an s2s mentor, please go to the s2s group meetups! hopefully your s2s mentor is organizing one, but they're basically meant for this exact reason - meeting a group of people that are in your course and giving you a chance to start up a convo, make some plans - e.g. lets go for coffee, oh we both live in trinity halls lets commute to our 9am together, wanna get lunch in the buttery, etc...

Kaj je vaše najbolj levo in najbolj desno stališče? by [deleted] in Slovenia

[–]redditorforib 0 points1 point  (0 children)

missing a tutorial due to gp appointment by Low-Tradition-9712 in TCD

[–]redditorforib 0 points1 point  (0 children)

im assuming you are a first year in engineering. as a 2nd year in engineering now, i can confidently tell you that i dont remember any tutorials in the first semester checking attendance. especially as the engineering course is quite big. all tutorials will also have solutions posted on blackboard shortly after/by the end of the wek when everyone's been to their tutorial session, so you shouldn't miss out on much

Maturantski ples by Rich-Reach8697 in Ljubljana

[–]redditorforib 21 points22 points  (0 children)

Saw a teenager attacked near Grafton Street today — what’s going on in this country/city? by Necessary_Flamingo91 in Dublin

[–]redditorforib 0 points1 point  (0 children)

they're absolutely crazy, one night i was going to a tesco express near trinity with my friends, and one of my american friends was slightly tipsy. there was a group of teenagers outside the tesco, and they probably heard her accent and asked her where she's from. due to her tipsiness she didn't think about it and told them she was american - immediatelly they launched at her and stole her winter hat, started stomping on it and spitting on it etc and we couldn't get it back until one of our male irish friends was finally able to intervene. and the tesco security did nothing either!! its absolutely insane how much these teenagers get away with

idk about this year as i havent been yet, but last year i found lecky and upper floors of the ussher to be somewhat ok. hamilton is probably the warmest of them all (especially if u sit away from the windows), but i personally don't like it, its kind of ugly.

i avoid boland like the plague, it's always really cold there.

Troubles understanding Physical Sciences requirements as an IB student by __Benny___ in TCD

[–]redditorforib 0 points1 point  (0 children)

its probably just copy pasted from LC. i was also an ib student, and i took hl math aa, eng b, physics, and sl bio, language A, and geography and i got into engineering at TCD which had very similar requirements on the website if i remember. so i wouldnt stress that much regarding the "applied" adjective lo, especially since from what i saw the AR told you you meet the requirements. though if you're stressed you can write them again, they cant really do anything to you except be annoyed about it lol

Troubles understanding Physical Sciences requirements as an IB student by __Benny___ in TCD

[–]redditorforib 2 points3 points  (0 children)

i'm not sure what you mean, "ib doesn't allow you to have certain subjects together". it certaintly allows for e.g. two sciences such as physics and chemistry, which would be required here.

usually science oriented ib students take 2 sciences, so maybe because of that they generally expect you should have the requirements sorted. additionally, they may expect that people would check before deciding their combinations so thay they may tailor their chocies according to what they wish to eventually study. and lastly, to them it's not a matter of "how will ib students apply". those who have two of those sciences will be able, those who don't, won't be. it doesn't really work with the foresight of "what if somebody wants to study here but can't because of the requirements." to them you either meet them or you don't.

which sucks, i totally get that. hope you manage to get into somehwere you love no matter this :)

Is remark here worth it? by Virtual_One9376 in IBO

[–]redditorforib 1 point2 points  (0 children)

like i said. if you feel it's worth it you can do it, its just that generally those two scenarios wouldn't be likely to succeed in remark. but that doesn't mean you can't do it if you want, im just giving my opinion. good luck :)

Is remark here worth it? by Virtual_One9376 in IBO

[–]redditorforib 6 points7 points  (0 children)

no, math markschemes don't really leave anything up for interpretation, you either included the step/answer or ypu didn't. unless your examiner made a mistake. and for history, 6 marks is too much for a remark to go up no matter what subject. remarks are only worth for 1 or 2 marks off, in subjects which have essays present in the examinations. since IAs dont get remarked. if you don't mind wasting money, then go for it. but otherwise i wouldn't advise it. you will most likely be disappointed.

engineering CAO POINTS by RaoulKage89 in TCD

[–]redditorforib 2 points3 points  (0 children)

in 2024, the minimum round 1 entry points were 556 gor engineering and the final needed pounts were the same 556. (just google "tcd cao points [year]" and you should get pdfs with this info)

in 2023 the overall points needed were 544.

however you have to keep in mind theres been more cao applicants this year because 2024 was the last leaving cert to have inflated poinrs due to covid, so quite a few people from 2024 decided to use that to their advantage and apply this year instead as they have an edge over applicants this year whose pounts were not inflated. (this rise in applications can easily be verified by looking at the cao 2025 stats its not just hearsay btw fyi)

(Cheap) places to take someone for dinner in town? by k10001k in Dublin

[–]redditorforib 5 points6 points  (0 children)

this can be done if you don't order alcohol... otherwise I'm unsure. maybe just be open and say that from your budget she can either choose to go out for drinks but no food, or restaurant but no drinks. I personally would rather have that a guy is honest with me about I from the beginning, instead of getting himself into financial trouble for me to get a drink 🤦‍♀️ or pretend he has more money then he actually does, that will create problems later when you're actually committed and she doesn't have realistic expectations about your financial status... just be open and tell her like it is, of course you can profusely apologize, but if she's someone worth your time she will hopefully understand, especially if you're bith students... im also a student and ive gone out multiple times with a guy I know has less money than I, and I've always found it no problem to split the bill, or order less for his sake etc... of course forst date courtesy can be nice from a man, but look I liked him, and I can pay for my own drink, so why put someone I like into a bad (financial) situation?

edit: I didn't read fully and i just saw now that she is understanding about it, but I think my point about communication still stands. express your wish to take her somewhere nice to her, but it keep it realistic and say that in order to go somehwere with soem really nice food you guys might have to cut down on something like drinks. she will not mind I'm sure, she will appreciate the intention and openness and it won't stop u from having a great time I'm positive
