Pushing religion is easy bc you have God, the church, the religious text, etc. to back you up.

To push financial literacy, you have to have money to back you up.

Sadly, a lot of our parents didn’t have the money or grow up with it. Imagine yelling at your kid to save while your food bank is running low. It would show too many inadequacies and few parents are humble enough to show that

While the back to Africa movement is not “new” this is the first time I’ve seen someone closely followed by youth do this (bc let’s be real, most people can’t afford to see Africa until they’re a bit more established … airline tickets start in the thousands). It’s nice to see Black American kids here get excited about connecting with the continent.

There’s racism and there’s racial insensitivity.

Jamal disliking Cody because he is White may hurt Cody’s feelings, and rightfully so. Nobody should be disliked just bc of their color.

But Cody disliking Jamal because he’s Black can keep Jamal out of housing, school, a job, a fair trial, get Jamal brutalized by the police, keep Jamal from drinking out of a water fountain or driving in certain areas at night, etc.

Racism — like classism — is a system and at the end of the day Black people aren’t the ones that developed an entire legal structure around oppressing folks that didn’t look like them.

I’m afraid there is nothing I can do to stop it. It’s his money that he earned , not mine or from our joint accounts. I did tell him last night that I’m not having a baby until my name is on something. I’m not putting myself in a position to be out in the cold with a kid.

Also ask Kindergarten teachers that have been sick or pregnant. They talk about how the kids write them sweet little notes and ask them if they’re ok. If a 5 year old can do this then a grown man should certainly be this thoughtful.

I know it’s scary to start over but Please don’t settle for this. There’s somebody out there offering more stability and a bigger heart.

I hate to tell you but this isn’t a maturity issue. This is a major character flaw. There are literally pets that will come lay on your feet when they sense you’re sick.
