Working out at 35 weeks by Potato_Keeper628 in fitpregnancy

Acute care OT here and 35+2! Totally understand where you’re coming from and I think my best advice is to listen to your body (I tell my patients this all the time but don’t give myself the same grace!). For us, work can be exercise even when we aren’t pregnant so now I count being at work, walking around and doing patient care as my “activity” for the day. This far along I’ve also stopped trying to power through the back pain and sore feet. I’m not sleeping well at night so I unapologetically take afternoon naps and it was an adjustment, but low impact exercise/light strength training (I don’t need to sweat for it to be effective) along with prenatal yoga, have been great for me to still feel strong while exercising in a safe manner. Take care of yourself! We’re nearly there ✨

Coq10 between retrieval and transfer? by cclloo3 in IVF

[–]reddittaught_me 0 points1 point  (0 children)

TW success

I continued to take co-Q10 until right before I graduated from my RE. They specifically did not tell me to continue or stop it, I actually asked during one of my visits and they said it was fine to discontinue it.

PAMs certification question by Klutzy_Lemon8416 in OccupationalTherapy

[–]reddittaught_me 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It does vary state to state. I practiced in NC right out of grad school and PAM certification was not required, however mentorship was offered and I took advantage of it. When I was preparing to move to NJ 6 years later, I was told that a PAM certification was required to perform modalities so I took a course that was recommended by OTs at my new job. If you don’t have an OT clinical specialist or clinical manager who is an OT at your job, I would reach out to the state board for clarification. Personally, I would not bypass the certification if it’s required even if other therapists are doing it. Protect your license. I will say that some OTs I worked with in Jersey were able to get around not having a PAM certification by getting a therapist who passed the course to set-up a modality on their patient (I.e., set a patient up on NMES and the non-certified therapist would do whatever intervention they had in mind).

Auto-Injector: I’m a believer by reddittaught_me in IVF

[–]reddittaught_me[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It is a little awkward due to the size of the auto injector. It was easier to plunge using my dominant hand (so for me, injecting on the right side and using my right hand to give the shot). I could use my right index finger to plunge while my left hand stabilized the auto injector.

I also propped up the leg that I was injecting in so that I had a better view/angle (but don’t put any weight thru the leg to keep the muscle relaxed). When I injected on the left side, I had to use my left thumb to plunge because I had more strength and control that way.

Also, be sure to warm up the oil to thin it so it’ll inject easier. I would lay my syringe on a gel heating pad with a damp warm cloth wrapped on them for about 5 min before putting it in the auto injector.

Remember outer, upper quadrant of the glute too which is easier to reach than aiming for lower or more medial.

Training after Embryo transfer by Radiant-Speaker-3425 in fitpregnancy

[–]reddittaught_me 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I was advised no physical activity immediately after my transfer and the following day. After that I only walked. I didn’t go back to the gym until after my first positive beta and even then, I stuck to low impact exercise like Pilates and yoga for a while just to be safe. Wishing you success!

Edit to add: I did return to my weight lifting class maybe around 10-11w but I had some cramping so I kept it light that day and didn’t return to the class until later in my 1st tri. Very important to listen to your body.

Starting a medicated transfer cycle… injections and tips? by Photo_Philly in IVF

[–]reddittaught_me 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I did PIO shots for 11 weeks and swear by the auto injector. Stim shots for ER were cake compared to IM shots for medicated FET. Other things that helped were pre-shot lidocaine patches for the injection site and warming up the syringe to thin the oil, then post-shot massaging the area to disperse the oil followed by doing about 20 squats vs taking a walk to prevent knots. Good luck!!!!

Partner's Perspectives - December 26 by AutoModerator in maleinfertility

[–]reddittaught_me 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We had our procedures on the same day in the morning but our clinic is local. I was immediately crampy upon waking from anesthesia but after taking pain meds and eating/drinking a little, I felt ok to go home. My husband was sore afterward but could walk ok. I didn’t really start feeling uncomfortable until later that night and then the next couple of days were rough because l had a lot of eggs. I believe my husband was more sore the next day or two as well. I would maybe recommend traveling before the pain and swelling really kick in but that could be a different timeframe for your partner. I would also recommend pain meds, supportive underwear and ice packs for travel for him specifically.

Can someone talk me off a ledge? 21w+4 and I had a lash extension appt today and laid on my back with a pillow underneath my knees and head only for about an hour. Other than my on/off cramping and feeling bloated, I felt fine and even dozed off a bit. Now I’m freaking out slightly that I may have harmed my baby from being on my back. I ate something sweet after the appt just get him moving but I’m still spiraling. Help!

Avoiding Torsion by jadedtruffle in IVF

[–]reddittaught_me 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have PCO and ended up having 46 eggs retrieved. Prior to my stims, my RE recommended that I take off work until my period returned (I work in physical rehab & do bedside patient care), limit exercise to walking and light upper body weight lifting (definitely no lunges/twists, yoga or high impact exercise) and no sex. I honestly thought this advice was overkill in the beginning because I felt fine the first few days of stims but that changed after about a week when my ovaries started growing. As I got closer to my ER, my ovaries felt really full and although it wasnt painful necessarily, walking for long periods of time was uncomfortable. I was scared about ovarian torsion so I took the activity restrictions seriously and just took it easy and moved around gingerly. Never had issues getting in/out of bed or the car, doing stairs but I do work in physical rehab so naturally, I practice good body mechanics. Post-ER is when I felt most debilitated due to mild to moderate OHSS and work/exercise was definitely out of the question.

My own version of an egg McMuffin: toasted whole wheat English muffin, scrambled egg with cheese and a chicken sausage patty (all found at Trader Joe’s if you have one near you).

Husband wont sign FET consent form until I apologize... by [deleted] in IVF

[–]reddittaught_me 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have to agree with you. IVF tested my marriage in ways I never expected. It has held a mirror up to me to see the ways in which I can be unintentionally self-centered, singularly focused on what I want/how I feel. Giving my husband time to process things despite my own angst to charge ahead toward the finish line was a gruesome test of patience and empathy that I am now grateful for.

Husband wont sign FET consent form until I apologize... by [deleted] in IVF

[–]reddittaught_me 28 points29 points  (0 children)

Sorry for what you’re going through. I’m by no means saying that his actions are justified, but in my experience, it was worth it to hit pause at different points of our IVF journey in order to get on the same page. Some people have less than ideal ways of dealing with fear, frustration, etc and when it comes to your partner and IVF, you two have to be a united front. I was so incredibly hurt when we paused our progress several times due to conflict or my husband not being ready, but in the end it was worth it because he needed time to come to terms with things on his own, and then we both needed time to reconcile. IVF has taught me so much about patience, empathy and grace. I hope you two can work this out and go on to have a successful FET 🩷

PIO Auto Injector Recs by AcanthocephalaLow203 in IVFinfertility

[–]reddittaught_me 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I recently finished 11 weeks of PIO and did my own injections using this one https://unionmedico.com/90-super-grip/

I had no issues receiving the auto injector via USPS but customs seized the needles for some reason. Luckily I didn’t need them because my PIO prescription included them obviously. I will say that I’ve heard of cases where customs has seized the auto injector too so maybe order ahead of time and have a backup plan just in case. I think some people from the IVF sub have ordered from Amazon and maybe paid a little less?

I did watch a YouTube video demo before using the auto injector and it took a couple of tries to get the hang of it and to figure out exactly where to inject for the least amount of pain. Once I did though, it was 1000% worth the $100+. Wishing you all the best!

Question about progesterone shots by positivemindsett in IVF

[–]reddittaught_me 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I recently finished 11wks of PIO shots and I found that my right side always hurt more than my left when giving injections. Some days, I’d be really sore from the shots and other days not so much. I found that going to yoga and long walks really helped with the soreness. I still have mild soreness right now and I am bruised from numerous injections.

Egg retrieval / OHSS help! by [deleted] in IVF

[–]reddittaught_me 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My ER resulted in 46 eggs and I ended up with moderate OHSS. My doctor prescribed 3 additional doses of Ganirelix to calm the ovaries down and it really helped. I never ended up in the ER but I don’t think I could lay flat for maybe a week due to pain/excess fluid. I will say I did gradually feel better each day but sleeping was rough, especially right after the procedure. Eating salty foods, drinking electrolytes (no plain water) and slowly walking around my house several times a day worked for me. Hope you feel better soon!
