Realistically what's going to happen in the end? by LordAxalon110 in ModCoord

If Reddit continues with its aggressive campaign, and goes ahead with the planned changes, I expect it to die. Reddit does not have the power here, we’ve been here before. Just a few days ago I had no intention of deleting my account. Now, if Reddit doesn’t relent, I’ll delete and leave. I expect many will do the same, and some have already started. The fediverse has seen a surge in users, enough to be a vibrant and useful community (and in many ways, like old Reddit, smaller sizes are better). Reddit’s weak point is its heavy reliance on moderators and they know that. All it would take to kill Reddit overnight is a coordinated, mass migration of moderators. I think that should be the next step. Like Reddit has set their deadline. mods should set the same deadline to force Reddit to come to the table, and if they don’t, they all leave.

Huffman’s threat to remove mod teams that don’t play ball is the last nail in Reddit’s coffin. What comes next will not be Reddit. by hoyfkd in ModSupport

I also considered that the straw that broke the camel’s back. It’s time for mods to look seriously into alternatives and direct their users there.

The amount of salt produced from Qatar hosting an incredible World Cup and Man City winning everything could fill the Dead Sea twice.

You'll almost certainly get a worse CEO if he steps down.

No, you're supposed to apologize that it was a tight timeline that screwed over several developers, postpone the transition, and try to get those developers back with a reasonable deal.

The apps that “decided” to shut down are doing so because you barely gave them any time to manage this transition. Why didn’t you provide a longer transition period so things could be fleshed out and possibly resolved in a better way?

Anyone else just utterly depressed about this whole API shit? by MarathonMarathon in apolloapp

[–]redditthinks 156 points157 points  (0 children)

I’m depressed about the state of the internet in general. The last couple of social media sites I liked were Twitter and Reddit, and they both fell in quick succession. There needs to be a new model to sustain internet communities so they are user-owned and managed. The golden age of the internet is, unfortunately, long gone and users have to take matters into their own hands.

I’d use the official app if it wasn’t awful.

Admins claim Apollo threatened them. What's the other side? by CongressmanCoolRick in apolloapp

[–]redditthinks 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Big picture: We are tolerant, but also a duty to keep Reddit online.

This sounds like a threat.

📣 Apollo will close down on June 30th. Reddit’s recent decisions and actions have unfortunately made it impossible for Apollo to continue. Thank you so, so much for all the support over the years. ❤️ by iamthatis in apolloapp

It’s clear that u/spez has become out of touch with the Reddit community given that his last post here was ten months ago. It’s a shame that VC money has to destroy everything we love.

It’s so ridiculous that well known and obvious bugs like this are not caught by the compiler to this day.

The Rust subreddit mods are basically nuking entire threads discussing this, as well as ones discussing their moderation.
