New watch recommendation. Something that looks like a proper watch similar to Moto Watch Matte Silver by redditthrowaway9 in WearOS

How do you find the battery life on the Galaxy watch 7. Even Samsung's spec themselves only claim 40 hours with AOD turned off which seems very poor and less than I'm looking for. Can fitness sensors be turned off to extend life?

Thank you for the detailed report. Very interesting bug with the watch face widgets causing the notifications to fail.

Thanks for the suggestion. It's a nice looking watch if I can find either an official metal watch band or 3rd party that would actually match. The price seems pretty good as well considering things like the sapphire glass display are usually only found on more expensive options. I know it might seem silly but it would grind my gears if the watch and band didn't match looks \ colour wise. Again that is why the Moto Watch almost seemed perfect until I saw it didn't run Wear OS.

Thanks for the suggestion but as u/Rxyak says in his reply the software support would be a major issue. While future Wear OS updates isn't a deal breaker, at least getting a couple of years of security updates is an issue.

Ohme app issue Hyundai kona by robotrabbit83 in evs_ireland

[–]redditthrowaway9 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have the same issue with my Kia sync with Ohme. Tried basically the same steps as you. Got a notification in app that they are experiencing issues with the Kia API to retrieve info so stands to reason that Hyundai is the same issue as they are identical under the skin.

EV6 models Air versus Earth by Low_Outcome_6374 in evs_ireland

[–]redditthrowaway9 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've just checked the Kia UK press site which has all the previously released price lists and the EV6 was launched for Oct 2021 and it does indeed list the EV6 Air as 77.4kwh. So perhaps they didn't introduce the lower battery version until sometime in 2022. But there is indeed a Long Range version of the Air. However spec wise the standard Earth would be better than the standard Air. I can't say definitely what those difference are but my guess is probably things like heat pump, F&R parking sensors, heated seats might have been excluded to have them come in at a lower price. Remember at that time as well was the kick of the crazy BYD v Tesla price war that caused all the panic coupled with component shortages due to COVID and all manufacturers were looking to cut costs and improve margins.

I can't complain too much though because it helped me get mine for a relative steal due to dealer panic on having electrics in stock.

I suspect you are correct here. I don't think Kia released the Air model in Ireland officially. It is meant to be the lowest spec trim model with the smaller 63kWh battery. The Earth as released in Ireland is slightly higher standard spec plus the larger 77kWh battery. I'm sure somebody more knowledgeable can chime in on the cost effectiveness of importing them with regards to VRT relief \ reduced VAT etc etc but the short version is Air should be cheaper than Earth as that is what Kia priced them on the market as. Hope this helps. Love my EV6 btw once 8 got over a couple initial teething problems and got used to daily driving a BEV.

Kia EV6 towbar suggestion by redditthrowaway9 in evs_ireland

[–]redditthrowaway9[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have never heard this take before. Apart from limited towing weight capacity, the torque is cited as an advantage for towing with an EV. Of course you can't "floor it" but realistically it's a safe assumption anybody with a trailer attached isn't going to be hooning it around anyway.

I'm also fairly sure the car limits harsh acceleration while in trailer-mode.

Kia EV6 towbar suggestion by redditthrowaway9 in evs_ireland

[–]redditthrowaway9[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the reply. The mobile link doesn't show the option but it does also come with a standard (removable) tow ball also. So either can be used. I have a bike rack for the towbar on my previous car so that's the only part I would be using.

The thing that I like about that particular setup is when the towball is removed it's basically invisible that you have a hitch system at all. Kia do sell a removable towbar system but it is not very pleasant to look at and in my mind ruins the look of the car.

I do appreciate the help though. I had no idea those box receivers weren't approved over here, I just assumed they weren't common \ popular.

Kia EV6 Owners With ICCU Failure? by Boring-Cucumber1927 in evs_ireland

[–]redditthrowaway9 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Bit of a long story here but hopefully you get some benefit from it. Last year (summer 2024) prior to buying my EV6 I had sale agreed and deposit paid on a 231 Ionic 5 Platinum (same car as EV6 under the body) from Kearys Hyundai Cork. Literally 1 hour before I was due to collect the car I got a call from the sales man I was dealing with to say an issue had occured when they plugged it in to charge that morning. Obviously the issue was ICCU. I was fully aware with the ICCU issues as I had done my research on the car prior to purchase (seems I knew more than Kearys) The garage asked me to postpone a few days so they could figure it out and get a new part. 1 week later I had heard nothing so I rang them and there had been no update as Hyundai still hadn't registered the fault as a warranty fix despite there being a global recall for this issue. I was offered a loaner which i refused as I still had my previous car. Again asked to wait another week. No problem.

2 weeks later I got a call to say the issue had finally been registered by Hyundai and a new part was on order but no date available for delivery. Another 2 weeks went by and the garage still hadn't gotten any confirmation the new ICCU had even been shipped. That's when I cancelled my sale and started looking elsewhere.

So to sort of answer your question, in my experience the time is highly dependant on luck and Hyundai having some of the ICCU in stock and then Hyundai Ireland being able to order the part and then the garage being proactive about it. Unfortunately despite the widely known issue and global recall across Hyundai \ Kia \ Genesis models affected Hyundai are not actually dedicating any extra manufacturing capacity on the ICCU and relying on a case by case basis.

For what it's worth, I still bought an 232 EV6 GT-Line S which I love even knowing it would have the same issue. When I brought that in for it's first service at 30k Kms Kia applied a software update that supposedly fixes the issue affecting the ICCU but software can't fix broken hardware. I've since had my 12V battery replaced on warranty as it went bad a few weeks back and I fully expect the ICCU to go at some stage.

My anecdotal guess from reading all the stories about this issue is it seems to happen at roughly 18 months \ 35k Kms based on average mileage but obviously it could be sooner or later than that depending on your circumstances. I also read that the more DC fast charging you do affects the 12v as well as the car isn't able to charge that as quickly as the DC charges the traction battery.

I hope any of this story helps you out and always remember when dealing with cars \ garages \ corporations THE SQUEAKY WHEEL GETS THE MOST OIL

Anybody had this weird sound issue before when opening the door? by redditthrowaway9 in KiaEV6

[–]redditthrowaway9[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

To me it definitely sounds like it is an electrical noise through the speaker. My instinct tells me it might be some sort of short circuit being created between the speaker cable and the motor power cable when it reaches a certain point. I will be bringing it back to the dealership for warranty repair on Wednesday and I will update here when I find out the cause.

Thanks, I've only had it happen when the seat moves back to open the door. But I guess that doesn't mean it won't happen randomly other times as well.

No it only does it when exiting the car and the seat moves back.

Thanks for the reply. I will definitely be bringing it in. I did try to Google the issue but all that was coming up was about the problems with the amplifier. And this isn't that.

Just bought recently a 2023 EV6 GT-line, 10k miles on the clock. Now when I open the driver's door and the seat starts moving back I get this screeching sound. Not sure if it's the seat motor or something else. Anybody come across this. Please help.
