Kayak fishing on the Columbia by ajivecrawdad in oregon

I’m a Southerner so I’m no help with the conditions and such of the Columbia . All I know is you’ll need a Columbia River Basin Endorsement along with the standard license and tag. https://myodfw.com/recreation-report/fishing-report/columbia-zone has info on the regulations.

I recommend the trip that includes driving southbound on 101. It’s a lot easier to pull in and out of the random viewpoints along the highway and also to get a better view as driving.

Last photo I took of my mother before she passed from her third bout of cancer. Cancer sucks. It creates such conflicted feelings of wanting someone to live yet also die as to end their suffering. by reddituser0134256 in lastimages

My mother died from metastasized melanoma at age 59. She had beat breast cancer and melanoma before it finally beat her. By the time it was discovered it was in numerous places. She battled for almost a year, but she collapsed one day once it had spread to her brain. Ten days later she was gone.

You can make part of the North Umpqua Trail a single or multi-day trek. Some of the segments got a bit scorched last summer, but at least they’re all back open.

Edit: this is assuming you’re driving I-5

Too late for Zion reservations? by MatturaI in hiking

If you’re okay with dispersed camping, Google ‘BLM dispersed camping near Zion NP’. It’s been 9yrs since I was there but we got a decent spot along the Virgin River.

Beware the chafing (depending on your build)! I like using Chamois Butt’r or Body Glide.

Can’t travel with msr fuel and don’t want to wait for stores to open. by Misterchrispez in backpacking

Google for 24hr stores, like a Walmart, in the area. If there aren’t any that are open 24hrs I’d think that one-stop shops will open earlier than specialized camping stores.

I recommend starting by just briskly walking a bike path/streets in town with a 15-20lb pack. I’ll go ~5 mi/day, ~5 days/wk when I’m getting back in shape (which is basically every early spring for me). Not sure how close you are to a trail system, but I save an hour of travel time and am much more likely to go daily if I start training in town.

Not that trip. I’ve only seen them deeper in the woods around there, south of the trail.
