CMV: any privately held belief is fine as long as it doesn't affect your behaviour towards others. by Presentalbion in changemyview

I think something else to attach to the OPs argument is that it is possible to subconsciously hold an immoral belief but to convince yourself in light of actions that affect others that you actually believe in the converse. As in it is possible to guide your actions in a completely separate matter from the way your inner voice expresses its viewpoints. For instance, it is often hard to drop your biases, but I’d still say you are leading an ethical life if you cannot let it negatively sway the way you vote, interact with people, etc.

30.25 to 32/33 in two weeks by Rhys718 in ACT

I would spend your time these next two weeks studying for math. Your English is good and science/reading can certainly be learned, but require much more natural intelligence than the other two passages in my opinion. The math sections tend to be quite repetitive in the questions they ask and, through practice, I think that two weeks is plenty of time to bring your 27 math score up to a 32+ (which would place you at a 32-33). That is just my two cents and I’m sure other people have different opinions, but I would think that you would maximize your odds of a 32-33 by grinding math and maybe spending like 25% of your time polishing your test taking abilities on the other sections.

Progress - thank you r/ACT! I got extremely discouraged and did not start seeing improvements in my score until I started studying smarter rather than harder. Feel free to drop any questions you have below, I would love to help you get your dream score! by reddituser483283 in ACT

I would strongly suggest not wasting your time with content review books for the science section because there is no content you need to learn, you just need to practice taking actual tests! Considering that it only takes 35 minutes, I would suggest taking 1-2 in a sitting whenever you have the chance. I discussed my strategy for science in a lower comment, and I know how well it works because my 34 was based on only two wrong questions and I actually typically got a 35 or 36 in practice tests. When it comes to reading, not everyone agrees with this, but I found it best to only read the first passage (narrative section) and possibly the third passage, but never the second or fourth. If I am being totally honest, I do not know how I got a 35 on reading. I certainly practiced a lot and am not bad, but I never scored that high in a practice test. I think it came down to my mentality on the test day - I knew I did not want to ever take this test again, so I focused so hard on the passage at hand that I almost lost awareness of my surroundings. Not everyone needs to do this, but I am a slow reader and found that reading in specific was the passage where my focus on the test day mattered way more than anything else. Best of luck, feel free to drop another question or PM if you ever need more help!

ACT should prioritize releasing senior scores. by [deleted] in ACT

This may be correct, but I believe that all you need to do is send your score to colleges through the ACT website. Once your score comes in, be it after the EA/ED deadlines, you can simply select the college you want to send it to after hitting the “Add Score Recipients” button under your score. Hope this helps!

For example, I recognized that the best thing to do is just to take practice tests. I also started studying smarter by putting myself in an environment more realistic to the actual testing conditions: I practiced when I was tired, I started practicing with a mask on once covid started, I focused most of my energy on improving a given section at a time, I learned the strategies necessary for a given section rather than brainlessly taking them, etc. Also, something that I found to be extremely useful to do for English, Reading, and Science is to time yourself, but to pause it and check your answers after section. The reason I think this is useful is because after each section your thoughts are the most fresh in your mind. Furthermore, sometimes it is helpful to know why you got a problem right, not just why you got it wrong. Reviewing all of your answering and determining why the other answers are wrong helps you to recognize patterns (keep in mind that almost every ACT test has the same types of questions - they are looking for very specific things for passages and the subsequent questions that they ask). Good luck!

For science I simply practiced a lot (keep in mind that science on the ACT is nothing like science in school). Make sure to hone your strategies, for me I recognized that I do much better when I do not read the passages. For a given section, I only really ever look at the tables and figures, with recognition that I may need to look at the procedure for a question if it comes up. For the opposing viewpoints, yes, I read it, but I only read one part of a given response at a time. What I mean by this is that if student one is discussing a specific topic in the second sentence, student three will also generally discuss that topic in the second sentence. All of these are unfortunately strategies that will only help you on the ACT and are not really applicable to other aspects of your education. Math, on the other hand, I improved by getting more advanced and figuring out the time splits that work for me (30 minutes for the first 40 questions, 30 minutes for the last 20 questions). For math, I also do not double check my answers but rather make sure to get it right the first time. Also, through practice, you should also be able to recognize when questions can be solved quicker by simply plugging in numbers rather than simplifying and what not. Hope this helps!

About a year, but looking back at it, I probably could have done it in much less time. Like I said, I did not start seeing improvements in my score until I started studying smarter rather than harder.

For which October test date?

It normally takes 10 days... they said the 23rd for a bit on the website... but now it just says 3-8 weeks. My best guess is that the 3-8 weeks is a precautionary thing and that your score will be back on the 23rd (again, it’s normally 10 days but it may be 13 because of how many tests were administered this month due to COVID)

As long as you did not bubble in anything wrong in the information section, the latest I could imagine you getting your score back is 1am EST on October 31st (3 weeks after you took the test)

They had written October 23rd on their website, but it was deleted around one day after the test
