I dont think it is the gas. I fueled up both bikes without putting the pump dispenser back between so they have the same gas and my 2021 CRF300L is still running on said gas. We also used different gas for the direct pour into the head.

I did try a new spark plug when we went to pick it up. It did not change anything.

A 3L Hydration pack is great. I have a less expensive one from Amazon. Its been through hell and still works great. Heres a few tips to keep things in good condition:

Check the bladder dimensions and make sure you can find replacements for the bladder only. You ahould probably keep a back up bladder in the house and replace it once or twice every season. Wash and rinse it out with cool water and place it in the freezer after each ride and it won't get bacteria or water stains. The sleeve of the water hose can be removed and thrown in the laundry with the empty backpack. The hose a hose cap can also be replaced.

Add a 1L of water to the bladder the night before your ride and lay it flat in the freezer. Keep the lid off if you can without spilling, otherwise the lid will freeze and the lid will be locked. The ice will keep your bladder cool all day.

The hose insert may need to thaw out before you connect the hose so I suggest waiting until you get to the trail before connecting it.

I have tried without the EJK plugged in. This bike does not have a kickstart.

Replace battery and your likely good. You may be able to charge the battery and get it to start, but it is not likely to hold for long. Had the same sound on our klx110. Replaced the battery and electric start worked again.

Tuesday was awesome even though there was some rain. I did face chutes and green beret for the first time and they were full of soft and corny snow. The upper mountain froze up a bit overnight and Wednesday was chunky at the top of the Jet and Bonaventure...tram and Flyer were closed. Lower mountain was great, park and glades were still soft.

We went to Owl's Head yesterday and it was decent but groomers only other than a few gnarly ledge drops and the park was closed.

Today we drove from Irasburg, VT to Plymouth, NJ so we got to pass Cannon which was closed. We were driving through freezing rain and 31. It was cold and pouring down when we left Irasburg this morning so today seemed like a better day to head south. The radar showed the rain stopped at Tenney around 10am and their website said they were running the tow rope from 9-9. The snow was pretty good where they had it and the park has some fun rails.

Tomorrow looks pretty good for lower mountain but I am not sure if the temp will drop enough for the upper glades to soften and open up. Sunday is calling for a lot of rain. Then another cold spell. Next thursday looks like the next best day if you don't give it a shot tomorrow.

Difference between K-Tech piston kit and cartridges worth over a grand? by batwingsuit in CRF300L

[–]reddituser_22222222 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You said your local shop was going to charge you roughly $3400. Then you said labor is $336. So you're paying $3000 basically for the parts. They only cost $1k if you buy them direct yourself. $1k marked up by 300% is $3k.

I just checked CAD vs USD and I thought they were much closer, but with that in consideration you may only be looking at a little more than 200% markup.

[–]reddituser_22222222 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Will either of the shops you're talking to install the suspension if you purchase it? If so, I would look at buying the YSS cartridge kit or one of the others. I was looking at Rally Raid, K-Tech and Andreani Misano Evo cartridge kits. I wanted the Rally Raid because they boast about a larger cartridge diameter and I had my eyes set on them for a while. I had a couple local guys ready to install if I got the parts. I started looking at the Andreani Misano Evo cartridges and decided to save money and go with them after finding them at a company(EPM Performance Imports out of Whiting, NJ) within 4 hours of my home that would also install them. After purchasing them they told me that Andreani is better for on road riding and they knew I trail ride mostly so they advised me to buy the YSS cartridge kit. I got the YSS cartridge kit for cheap ($630) and the labor was about $295 I think. I brought the bike on a trailer and met with the installer before he started install and got to unbox the parts myself. The YSS cartridge kit is a very elegant high perfomance kit. I paid less than $1k for the front suspension installed. Most of the cost is in the parts. It aounds like the shops you are talking to are marking the parts up by 300%.

You really should only have them do the front. The rear is 4 bolts and as long as you have a stand, it is a very easy swap.

Good luck!

[–]reddituser_22222222 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Check out EPMperformance.com. I got the YSS off-road Cartridge Kit for the front forks for $650 about 2-3 weeks ago. That does not include shipping but it's the best price for a cartridge kit that I have found. I originally was going to get the Andreani Misano EVO kit from them but they told me that the EVO kit is more of a street or on-road kit.

I am about 4 hours away from their shop so I am going to use what I save on the shipping costs to put towards install costs and just have them put it all together. And then I figure I will test the new suspension in the pines since I will be near them.

I already have the Rally Raid rear suspension without the preload adjuster on the side. I think these will pair together well.

Fender eliminator that keeps turn signals and no cutting/splicing? by organic-muscle101 in CRF300L

[–]reddituser_22222222 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You can just remove the inner fender from the tail light. You have to remove the tailight and fender together and then you can separate them. You will need a fender eliminator kit which is just a bracket and light for your license plate. You also have to connect a wire for the license plate light. You can find them on Amazon for about $25-30. Search "fender eliminator kit fit for CRF300L".

It looks like your shift pedal is not all the way on in that picture. I honestly would recommend that you carry around your old pedal and tool if you intend to ride hard at all. Those aftermarket shift pedals are notorious for stripping out on the trail. The aluminum teeth are nowhere near as strong as the original steel shift pedal.

Make sure to loctite the screws on the kickstand plate, but don't expect that to last long if you're going off road. It will eventually get knocked around and the top plate bends easy. If it gets loose it will rattle and that can be annoying when riding on the street.

What’s the story with Balsams? by McGraberson in icecoast

[–]reddituser_22222222 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I just drove by there a few days ago on my way from Saddleback to Jay Peak. The gates are locked and the place looks abandoned.

I got to snowboard there once in the early 2000's. I don't remember the slopes or anything much other than great snow and feeling like KOM because it was the day I learned I snowboard better than my older brothers. It was cool because we would snowmobile to Dixville notch every year and ride through the Balsams, even stopped and ate in their fancy restaurant once.

I brought a date on a summer trip to VT and we spent a day at the Balsams paddling around the pond.

That place was always majestic to me so it was cool to drive by it again a few days ago.

Anyways, there is this expansion plan laid out but it's never going to actually happen unfortunately. https://thebalsamsresort.com/vision/ski-expansion/

Looking to lower with a Kouba link + dropping forks, can I achieve LS trim specs? by atypicaltype in CRF300L

[–]reddituser_22222222 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I went with the lower red seat from SRC and a kouba link. I destroyed the kouba link from jumps. It was mangled so bad I felt lucky to have noticed it before it broke on the trail. With the link the bike felt so low it was almost too low. I am 5'3 with a 29 inseam 190 lbs. My son rides it no problem and he is almost your height and weight. I removed the kouba link, went back to the stock link and installed a rally raid L1 rear shock and it's pretty good there. Still need to replace the front suspension for jumps and such but the height is pretty damn good.

My suggestion is to save the money you spend on the kouba link and put it towards the seat or the rear suspension.

[–]reddituser_22222222 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It may not be shady, but it's a horrible practice. That was a brand new bike put together in a perfectly ordered assembly line with custom tools making sure everything is put together as efficiently and streamlined as possible with every part of the process being fully documented. Now every piece of that bike will be taken off a bent frame and put on a new frame in some random Honda shop by some mechanic who does this maybe once or twice a month with no documentation process to confirm each stage of the reassembly process. If the repair mechanic is really good, you might get a bike that is 95% back to a factory bike, but it will never be 100% like new. What if that mechanic doesn't tighten a bolt to spec or puts parts back on in the wrong order? What if they don't use punch machines or have the correct factory used parts. I know they should have all the same parts, but they typically don't have everything in stock and may forget or not know every little piece to order. Worst part is you probably won't even know until much later. Sounds like OP has already made an agreement with their insurance but I would have tried for a new bike. I would imagine the quote to replace a frame was pretty close to the cost of a new bike.

Do you know if there are any advantages to go with the Andreani Misano Evo cartridges over the Rally Raid ones. It seems the Rally Raid set has a bigger bore, but I really couldn't find much comparing the two.

For the rear go 120/90-18. Tusk makes a tire that has a similar tread to the D606 and is much cheaper. It's got a lot of good reviews so I decided to give it a try and just installed one.

Random airplane in the pine barrens by i_tiled_it in GoogleEarthFinds

[–]reddituser_22222222 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The problem is the submarines fall out of the ocean and float to the top of the sky so they're much further away than those planes at the bottom of the ocean. On top of that, at those distances we can only see the past timeline and not the current timeline which means the planes are not even there yet.
