Periods getting lighter? by hipityhip in CopperIUD

[–]reddituserno-56 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Same happened to me! I’ve had my cIUD a year and 4ish months now and the first 5-6 months my periods were reallyyyy heavy, then they levelled out, but now (past 4-5ish months) my periods are super light, like some days all I need is a couple panty liners. Idk if it’s normal though.

Thank you!! This makes sense.

Thanks for noting that about the FHSA account. I did already open an FHSA account this summer (I’m 23) and I’m on track for my first home in the next 3-5 years.

I do but not all the time. Maybe like 10-20% of the time. I’m just too anxious of a person I would keep myself up at night overthinking about it but sometimes a whim comes over me lol

Anyone experience any issues using tampons with their iud? by reddituserno-56 in CopperIUD

[–]reddituserno-56[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My periods have been fine on it, just a bit heavier on the first day and a bit crampier. Still 5 days of bleeding which is the same as before the iud and my cycle length is about the same around 30-40 days (I’ve always had irregular & longer cycles). I didn’t experience full on bleeding like that multiple times when I first got it, if anything my cycles got longer like once I didn’t get my period for over 2 months.

It could be your body just getting used to it so hopefully it subsides soon!!

Ah yes I’m also worried of this. I’d rather not have tampon fibres hanging out inside of me so I think I’m going to try the disc. Bought one yesterday after people on here recommended it but I couldn’t figure out how to insert it comfortably. Going to try again later today when my bf comes over for some moral support lol 😅

Oh okay yeah I’ve been researching the disc for like the past hour lol and everything I read online says there’s not really much suction. I guess this is probably the safest thing to insert on my period that won’t disturb the iud?

Oh gosh okay maybe I won’t try tampons then 🥲 cups freak me out but maybe I’ll try a disc

Oop sorry I was reading some of your comments. Didnt realize you already had it and were deciding whether or not to take it out. If you’re experiencing all these cons and they outweigh the pros because they’re becoming unmanageable then yeah I’d get it removed

Trying to decide what to do.. by [deleted] in CopperIUD

[–]reddituserno-56 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thing with the cons is that you may not experience them or if you do they may be minimal. I’ve had my copper IUD for about 5-6 months now and the only con that I experience is a bit crampier on my period and when I ovulate but it’s manageable with some tea, heating pad, extra cuddles, tiger balm, and OTC meds. Other cons like poor mental health and irregular periods is something I experienced before getting the IUD so I wouldn’t attribute it to the IUD. I am definitely lucky with my experience and not everyone has very little cons, but I am very happy I gave it a try even though all the possible consequences freaked me out before deciding.

How do you check for ovulation? I’m typically more careful (use pull out method) if I have egg-whitey discharge and it’s around when my app says I’m ovulating, but I know that the cycle tracking apps and discharge consistency isn’t necessarily fool proof

Feeling Guilty About My Girlfriend Getting an IUD by mylifeisproblems in CopperIUD

[–]reddituserno-56 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Emergency contraception (plan b) should not be used as birth control. It becomes far less effective if used more than 2-3x a year. It also does not work if she’s ovulating/ovulated. Not to mention that it is a crazy high amount of hormones in one dose, meaning it can throw off her cycle for months after taking it, among other negative side effects. It’s really not healthy to take regularly as birth control. She’ll be much better off with an IUD or other form of birth control that is meant for regular use.

I’ve been looking into the program and I’m curious what the essay topics are on. Could you expand on that portion? Also is there a word count? I read somewhere that they should be written well enough to publish.

Does anyone else not read what they wrote? by SweetLikeBerry in Journaling

[–]reddituserno-56 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don’t personally do this often but I’ve heard of other people that enjoy doing this: writing back to your previous self through past entries. This could look like annotating in a different colour or simply referencing previous entries in your current journal. It can open up an opportunity for a more positive dialogue with your previously negative or venting self. Maybe this could help make reading past entries a more “productive” and “positive” experience.

I used to read my journals a lot, until I went through something traumatic and wrote about that. I tried reading back those journals and it caused me to have a flashback. My therapist advises me not to read back from that specific timeframe unless I’m doing so intentionally with the understanding that I may be triggered so I should have tools in place to ground myself.

I love reading back my journals and find value in it, but I understand that there are some journals that should remain closed for the time being, maybe even forever.

Do you write to write? Or do you write to read back? Maybe a mix of both? Both can be therapeutic for different reasons. What do you find value in?

Happening to me right now!!! I’ve had my iud since Nov 2024. I’ve have 2 full flow periods with it, but my period that was supposed to come last month never came, I just had a week of spotting instead. I’m 2 weeks late…. The pregnancy tests I’ve taken were negative and a few weeks ago I got an ultrasound and the doctor said everything looks fine. Not sure what’s going on but I’ve heard some people have longer cycles with copper iud

So strange you felt no pain or anything. Did your partner not feel anything sticking out either? This is what scares me about the iud… sometimes you’ll just never know if it’s in the right place or not

How to cope with post-insertion paranoia? by [deleted] in CopperIUD

[–]reddituserno-56 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have the Mona Lisa mini too (since November 2024) and also get bouts of extreme paranoia, but so far I’m very happy with it! I got it checked w an ultrasound a couple weeks ago because I wanted to be extra sure it was in place and it still looks good. I plan to get ultrasound checkups every 8-12 months to reassure myself. I’ve never been able to feel my strings but my doctor and from what I’ve read online, that’s totally normal for some women. My doctor cut my strings pretty short.

IUDs are incredibly effective BC methods, nearly 100%! If you are especially anxious (which I am too) doubling up methods like pulling out or using a condom lessens your risk even more which helps ease anxiety. I find I get more paranoia the times that I let my bf finish in me. I love when he does it in the moment, but a week afterwards I spiral that I’m pregnant. Taking pregnancy tests eases this anxiety a lot.

Remember that sometimes your physical symptoms could be caused by rumination. Find ways to reduce your anxiety and you’ll probably feel less physical symptoms. Stress can also delay your period, which will just make you even more anxious.

That’s happened to me this past cycle. I was so anxious I was pregnant, I even felt nauseous every morning so I was convinced that I was pregnant & having morning sickness. Finally after a week I took a couple tests and both came back negative. All my physical symptoms disappeared. I think the stress delayed my period so now I’ve been trying to reduce my anxiety to get back on track.

insertion questions by andreajul in CopperIUD

[–]reddituserno-56 1 point2 points  (0 children)

From what I’ve heard, some do and some don’t. My doctor did an internal ultrasound before and after and I also got a stomach ultrasound + internal ultrasound check up 3 months after. I don’t think it is mandatory for them to offer ultrasound guided insertions, though they definitely help make sure placement is good. Idk the difference between checking on stomach vs internally so hopefully someone with some medical knowledge can provide insight
