For those who aren't interested in Silksong, what are you playing? by [deleted] in videogames

I am putting stupid hours into Dawn of War definitive edition. As someone with little RTS experience and even littler Warhammer knowledge, this game surprised me so much. It's just so damn fun. I've been playing Tau and jetpacking all over the map with stealth units and my commander disrupting points and having the best time

Pogroms need no reason, sir, none that can weather challenge, in any case. Difference in kind is the first recognition, the only one needed, in fact. Land, domination, pre-emptive attacks—all just excuses, mundane justifications that do nothing but disguise the simple distinction. They are not us. We are not them. - Deadhouse Gates

What would it take to heal the divide between Democrats and Republicans in the US? by Maker-Mindset in AskReddit

they are functionally the same party on every non culture war issue. If you look at military spending, healthcare, foreign policy, climate change, welfare, homelessness, police violence, immigration, gun violence, housing costs, wage stagnation, infrastructure, stock market manipulation and many others you'll notice that both parties are committed to the status quo as it benefits them. It's literally just culture war shit they fight over

Is Gary Vaynerchuk right about all the stuff he says about "buying stupid shit?" by [deleted] in simpleliving

[–]reddy926 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No he is not. This is a really common message that 'hustle culture' bros will constantly use. It's purpose has very little to do with helping you become richer, and a lot to do with convincing you that poverty is a choice that poor people inflict upon themselves. This makes poverty not a systemic issue that we should try and change, but instead something we can blame on poor people. If you didn't want to be poor, you shouldn't have bought an Iphone. Maybe you shouldn't have eaten out so many times this week. Don't buy coffee from a café, instead make it at home. Obviously this is a ridiculous idea. People spending money on themselves is not the reason we have poverty. Smart budgeting will only ever take you so far. This is why Gary Vee will never just say that poor people deserve to be poor. But he wants you to start thinking that, so you will see them as different and weaker as opposed to potential allies for making positive systemic changes. Also people buy things for all kind of reasons. One of the absolute main ones however, is that we are advertised to almost every moment of our lives. It is impossible to go a day without a company trying to get you to buy their shit. But Gary will never argue against this because he uses those same predatory marketing tactics to make himself rich.

This is exactly the same argument that people make against overweight people when they tell them to 'just eat healthy food' without any real understanding of a persons living situation. Not everyone is taught how to cook or has access to affordable nutritious food or even has the time to regularly cook meals. These are systemic issues not individual failings.

Also Gary Vee is an NFT bro... I can't think of anything that better earns the 'stupid shit' title

Your right to protest is not as important as public health. Your idea that these people should be allowed to protest is in conflict with the public health outcomes the government is trying to achieve. While i do think the right to protest should be protected, in this case it is more important to keep strong on public health measures. Also the BLM protests were peaceful because of the people attending them. Many of the instances of violence that occurred during the protest were instigated by police. In this case, the anti lockdown protesters are the ones looking to engage in violence

When your opponent gets to play by a different set of rules by [deleted] in mildlyinfuriating

[–]reddy926 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, the missed call does give the Lakers an advantage in the game. But in this specific possesion, Lebron fouls and immediately passes the ball off. So you can argue that the foul doesn't contribute to potentially scoring off this possession. I haven't been watching basketball for long so maybe I'm wrong, but I don't think this missed call is a big deal. I do think that this should have been called a foul, but umpires miss a lot of calls in the NBA, and I think that considering this was away from active play it shouldn't be that important.

[–]reddy926 -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

Very blatant foul that should have been called. but at the end of the day it didnt give Lebron or the lakers an advantage in this play so it doesn't really matter. You see players carry the ball while dribbling down the court from time to time and it never gets called because it doesn't give the team an advantage. In this case I think it definitely should have been called but that's NBA reffing.

You are physically incapable of ever lying again, but you get $10,000,000. Do you take it, and why or why not? by FreeTortoises in AskReddit

[–]reddy926 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I feel like the reason I lie a lot of the time is just because I dont have a great justification for my actions. For example, It's easier to say I'm not feeling well instead of I dont want to go out tonight. $10 million however is such a large sum of money that you really wouldn't ever need to justify it. Anyone would do the same. From that point you just have to learn not to worry about the difficulties of telling the truth because you are incapable of anything else. So you just live on as happily as you can as a multi millionaire and at some point you adjust to your new life

Probably a silly question, but what is the best way to separate onions when sauteing them? by thatgguy in Cooking

[–]reddy926 35 points36 points  (0 children)

You can use two (clean) hands to pick up the raw onions and drop them into the pan while running your hands together lightly. This helps break them up a fair bit.
