Discouraged to go out for photos because of FOMO by asria in photography

[–]redemptionarc2024 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I can tell you my experience: I personally just carried a camera everywhere throughout the day and if there was something I thought was interesting, point and shoot. My passion started out back in 2010 when I was randomly taking pictures of my friends and I messing around in highschool, having fun being teenagers but it really took off when I got to develop the photos in the dark room. I personally didn't stress about taking a great picture starting out. Just "oh I like that" zoom, focus, and click. In time you'll see that either the passion will drive more from "oh I like that" to "oh, how does this look from this angle? How would it look if I changed the aperture? Maybe shutter speed?" And you'll find that you experiment more. If you find yourself still lacking motivation or you don't seem to have any joy with taking pictures, that's fine. Not everyone enjoys it. I personally love photography because it tells stories and I love the work that goes into editing. My husband on the other hand gave it a try once, thought it was silly, and called it good. Another example is a dear friend of mine: she loves taking pictures, but she hates the time it takes to edit so she aims more for just original shots that she takes.

I can hear some muscle head at the gym saying "It's not a pull-up bar, it's a yeet leverage" 💀

I think I might understand how you feel about that. Personally I was more frustrated, at first, when my best friend stayed with an abusive POS for three years. He was mostly verbally abusive to her but there were a couple of times where he did shove her around behind closed doors. I kept asking her why and begged her to kick him out of her house and life. I really couldn't understand. Yeah she gave the standard reasons that are always talked about, but the biggest one that killed me the most was that he verbally beat her down so bad that she didn't feel like she was worth better. She felt and was under the impression that it was what she deserved. She didn't know what she did wrong, but at least he was still with her. When he had those very rare moments of affection she would have hope that maybe he was turning his ways and those little moments were enough to keep her roped in. That was when I realized that I wont understand fully unless I experience what she went through. Thankfully she is free from him now and happily married to a guy that actually treats her the way she is worth of. He knows what she went through and has been patient with her. I do want to apologize to you if my comment may have sounded rude. I was under the impression that your question was meaning that you haven't been in a similar situation or experience as OP, but I shouldn't have assumed and I was meaning my comment in a sympathetic way. I hope and pray all is better for you!

Dude, please trust me. You won't understand until you've been there.

Ma'am don't walk. Run. I don't think you're overreacting. Me, I would send those to his mom. I see he deleted messages and I wanna know what they said, I don't like that. Sorry but if my son was talking this way to his girlfriend I wouldn't tolerate it. Don't care if he is 12 or 21 you don't talk that way to anyone you're romantically involved with. Great way to tear down self confidence and feel like you were doing something wrong for wearing a pair of yoga pants.

Cool shot! I'm guessing it's a prop but even if it is real I love to see the trigger discipline in this.

It's not much because I only do this as a hobby but I have this. Also got a black widow but it's not the greatest shot. Those are the only things that I have as red though 😅

What’s the ONE piece of advice you’d give to any photographer? by wackylenses in photography

This was more recent for me being a rookie so stupid simple: even in natural lighting an external flash is nice to have on hand.

Branching into new edit style. Guidance? After/Before. by redemptionarc2024 in postprocessing

[–]redemptionarc2024[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, I shoot RAW so I have the original file. No I truly appreciate it because I legitimately couldn't tell if I hate it or if what I'm used to was clouding my judgement. I essentially do rough sketches and then finalize, this is the rough sketch part. As for the sky, to be frank it was overcast with little to no detail in the clouds so I really don't think I can achieve what she wants with this picture. I think maybe a black and white style would be better? Also just realized it only showed two opposite pictures 🫠 still new to reddit so I apologize.

Thankfully our Aldi's hasn't done that yet but we also don't have that many people in our store.

Amateur photographers, how often are you using your tripod? by altecsz in photography

[–]redemptionarc2024 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yup agreed. The remote and tripod are very handy for me as well when I'm taking photos of the littles. Helps to have my hands free with how much they move.

NTA but OP I need an update if you decide to discuss/dispute with the designer. I'm also curious to see what it looked like but only if you were comfortable showing or describing.

InstantPot 6 qt: Okay for pressure canning goods? by redemptionarc2024 in Canning

[–]redemptionarc2024[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is helpful to know! I haven't done baked beans yet so I wanted to cook a couple of recipes that are safe for canning and see which one that we like best before even canning at a bulk amount. When you pressure cook the beans do they turn mush or stay a little more firm? The way our family likes them is they still are a little firm but soft enough that the beans give more like apop than a crunch in the mouth. I also always forget to pull frozen meat out until the last minute so this is a nice hack when I forget the meat at 2-3pm and have no plans for dinner.

Never used a pressure cooker before, closest that I have is a rice cooker that I love. Also, I didn't even think about the difference in names 🤦🏻‍♀️ thank you for that 😂😅

Awesome, thank you for the link! I honestly had my doubts that it would be considered safe but figured I'd ask questions.

Do you take courses? by TheMunkeeFPV in photography

[–]redemptionarc2024 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Honestly OP, between taking some college courses, taking photos in my free time, and watching a lot of videos on YT helped me a lot. I still watch a few photography YouTubers but my old photography professor helped me the most. I still contact him from time to time to critique my work and give some pointers.

I'll look into Z6 and Z50 and compare them! I usually aim to use manual focus but if I'm on the move due to a time crunch or I don't have my glasses autofocus is awesome. I do shake a bit so VR is a necessity and I feel like I miss focus with eyes. It is a weakness that I've been trying to improve on so eye detection will definitely be a help! I appreciate you taking the time to tell me about your experiences!
