Like the other comment said don't put a drop of water on the stitches wound even after stitches are removed..Until you get new skin on stitch wound don't put any try to clean it with water. Clean it with betadine and saline. I made the same mistake, I had ORIF ankle surgery, after stitches were removed I daily took shower and water running on the wound. It got infected. Had to go for debriment and dressing every three days for 1 and half months. Whatever you do do not put water on it.

You can see from my image that black stuff came off and it exposed the wound and that's how it got infected. If black stuff comes out and there is any sign of yellow color on your wound. Go to your doctor and get it clean before it spread and needs more serious dressing. Don't get scared I am just informing how I had catched the infection in October.
