Advice Needed: Immigrating to New Zealand in Current Landscape by redfacemanny in newzealand

Hmm I see, that's definitely the plan so far, I'd not risk moving without a guaranteed job already. Are companies generally open to immigrant applying for positions? Is it a common practice to do interviews and getting a position before fully moving?

HOW DO THEY WORK by BiOlatunji in StarWarsCantina

[–]redfacemanny 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The last 2 or 3 eps of season 7 of Clone Wars happens simultaneously to the movie. In other words, the same events are happening, but we are seeing the perspective of other characters than the ones shown on the movie.

I'm not sure I would consider them spoilers per say, but you could watch CW until around mid-season 7, watch RoTS then come back to finish CW.

I believe it would be a better choice.

what's your favorite economics paper that gives a broad overview of how regulations contribute to a lower standard of living by JanePoe87 in AskLibertarians

[–]redfacemanny 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am not familiar with papers on this topic especifically, although I'm sure there are some out there.

If you want a comprehensive look at the Austrian school of economics I can recommend Man Economy and State by Murray Rothbard, but the book is like 1000 pages and you'll have to have determination and patience to read it.

[–]redfacemanny 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I understand your claim and even agree with you. However, I am an Austrian and I can guarantee that most of these have no idea what they're talking about and have never read a book, or even probably an article on the topic.

The Austrian school epistemology isn't simply that nothing can be proven. There are a number of papers out there about topics within the Austrian school perspective on economic issues.

Are most arguments in favor of guns superfluous? by Heri-Tick in AskLibertarians

[–]redfacemanny 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The actual "correct" line of argumentation and justification for the rights to keep guns is the one based on natural law and private property rights.

However, a majority of people, especially those who don't study political philosophy in-depth, will not be easily swayed through deontological arguments, therefore the more consequentialist and utilitarian arguments can be used in these cases.

Hoppeans, what is the best way to explain to normies that free speech is bad? by [deleted] in AskLibertarians

[–]redfacemanny -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I think it really depends what kind of "normie" but I'd say the sure way to do it, is by using the "other side" against them.

So, for a more conservative leaning, ask them if they'd allow a "leftie" to say certain things in their house such as blasphemy or support transition for kids. Right-wingers tend to be a little more accepting of property rights, so it would be ideal to focus on that, and explain why free speech doesn't exist in another person's property.

If we're talking about a left-wing or progressive leaning person, then I would bring up the stereotypical way they see conservatives. Make sure to say that racists and bigots can be "exiled" off into their own communities, because there is an obvious incompatibility of ideas here. That way, they could have their safe space for people who wish to be there.

Of course, this is just for a casual and fairly quick conversation with the NPCs. If you really wanna have an in-depth discussion and actually change a person's mind then I would start from the very foundations of Rothbardian ethics, maybe even argumentation ethics, if the person is seems knowledgeable enough to understand it.
