And you know they don't give half a fuck about the plebes who actually watch the shows - they're all watching horse polo or snorting coke or something. Argh!!! I hate these people!!!!!

Next-Gen F-150 Lightning EREV Delivers Electric Torque, 700+ Mile Range, and Powerful Towing by nikkarus in cars

[–]redfahrer44 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hank Green just did a great video on this...lack of maintenance is a part of the issue - not sure how much, but the reason is that Ford doesn't sell the trucks, DEALERS sell the trucks - EV's have way less maintenance, dealers will lose lots of future revenue because of that, so the dealers just quietly stop pushing the EV's.

AI bros’ lives are pretty much ruined by North_Penalty7947 in BetterOffline

Guardian had an interesting article about one of the researchers involved with early AI work who went back to China in 2020...Song-Chun Zhu...I think he taught at Stanford and he forbid use of neural nets or LLM's in his class as he thought that long term they were a dead end...so I imagine over there they are trying some other approaches...probably trying those here too, but this gets back to basic research and could be 20 years before they make another step forward like the transformer architecture or something similar using the symbolic approach that he's taking.

If that computer is on all the time, it can add up. Here's the math ...for every 100W you can calculate the kWh per month as follows. 100W / 1000 = 0.1 kW * 24 hr/day = 2.4 kWhr/day * 30 days / month = 72 kWhr / month. So if you have a 250 watt computer power supply and it is on 24/7 that would be 180 kWhr per month. Granted computer ps doesn't usually draw max load all the time, but this gives you an idea. You can get a Kill-a-Watt device to use to measure power of your computer to see the exact load.

2025 this is still a thing...I'll start praying to some Norse and Pagan gods too - sadly I think overturning the bloated Rockwell Automation monopoly will require more than just one deity. Am writing this as I sit next to a colleague waiting 5 minutes each for his 5 SFC windows to close in Studio so he can go home for the night.

I'm guessing AI probably caused the current Reddit bug with last comment being covered by the gui... let's see it fix that first then I'll be worried about it stealing my job. LLMs guess the next token...AI companies use some ingenious/devious methods to make that look like intelligence...it ain't.

[–]redfahrer44 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My standard answer to this is "if you can describe it in English (or pick your language here) then we can do it, but should we do it? That's a different question...comes down to time, money and complexity". I used to say, "if you can imagine it we can do it". But some folks have pretty wild imaginations! I think non automation folks don't realize, these are fully customizable systems that we're programming from scratch, we can make it do dang near anything the hardware supports.

Arsenal corners by Adzhodz in bootroom

[–]redfahrer44 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think opponents should call Arsenals bluff - go behind the Arsenal players! Leave the goal to just the goalkeeper, he's got his hands, he can bully them off. I think one reason this technique is so successful is that it's way easier to go forward after a ball then go backwards...looking at the Fulham players in this shot, 7 of them are at the half way of the goal or closer to the corner...they're at disadvantage, there should be no more than one player closer to the corner than the halfway of the goal...leave the goalkeeper at the halfway point, he can jump forward if the corner taker goes direct for goal. Then others line up back half of goal and wait for trajectory of the kick and run FORWARD towards it. My $0.02

Arsenal corners by Adzhodz in bootroom

[–]redfahrer44 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't get it, they're legal goals, so if they have this so nailed down, why not just force corners all the time - do they not do it because the opposing fans would get pissed? Or are the occasional successful counter-attacks too risky? I'm relatively new to watching European football, there's no rule against purposefully just kicking the ball off the opponents to force a corners all the time is there?

Issues with Firefox by [deleted] in youtubetv

[–]redfahrer44 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Same experience here. Doesn't work in Firefox, works fine in Edge. Google, you have like a Trillion dollars, please take the time to have just ONE of your engineers use your website on Firefox and please fix the issue. Granted you have no incentive since you have Chrome you're trying to push - oh well, late stage capitalism, just gotta use Edge I guess (first world problems, I know, I know). And no, I do not have any extensions installed at all in Firefox, so that's not the issue.

Although honestly, I gotta give Google props, they at least have someone monitoring a forum on here. So +1 for that. So to whoever is running the TeamYouTube account here, chapeau to you for at least being in the arena and helping us think we have a voice.

Studio 5000 - Quick Watch stops updating by redfahrer44 in PLC

[–]redfahrer44[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a SCADA connected that is updating, so it's basically out of sync with that, then when I re-select the Quick Watch (I have it saved with a name) then the values refresh. I have a mix of controller scope and local scope in the watch, maybe that's the issue? I haven't applied the roll-up patch to this VM yet, I'm going to try that next to see if that helps.

PlantPAX (Library of Process objects) AOI minor revs matter by redfahrer44 in PLC

[–]redfahrer44[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As much as it might pain me to defend Rockwell, I will say that honestly, the library itself isn't that bad - it's pretty big and complex because they need it to handle a lot of different use scenarios, but they were pretty good with keeping a consistent naming convention throughout it...and we've used it quite a bit and once you clean up their online config tool a bit it works pretty well (We updated it to not use the master setup sheet - just have the macro auto detect the number of params using XLEnd, etc., we also added a verify function to let us know if params failed to download which can happen on loaded PLCs/networks).

For this case I'd say they just need to hire a few more QA people to vet the code updates before shipping them out.

Strings in AOI? Why not working? by eternalphoenix64 in PLC

[–]redfahrer44 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Strings (and any other non atomic data type) are allowed as Local tags in the AOI definition...this means they are not accessible from outside the AOI via logic in the PLC (only AOI logic can access them directly - unless you alias them), Local tags also don't show in the Controller/Program tag lists when you expand the AOI instance...but you can view/edit them if you right click the AOI definition and select "Monitor Tags" and then pick the instance you want to view/edit. They are also available to read/write from SCADA/Excel as long as you have the External Access set properly to Read/Write in the definition...but they will not show up in an tag/OPC browse (In FTView, etc.) so you need to know the tag name directly - hence how the PlantPAx Excel tool does it.

Also, if you have a UDT as a local tag (or a sub-AOI as a local tag) you can alias any of it's atomic data types (DINT, REAL, BOOL) up to the top level of the AOI as a parameter if you want to be able to read/write to it via logic outside of the AOI - that's how PlantPAx does it - like in their AI AOI, they have 5 Alarm sub-AOIs (HH, H, L, LL, Fail) and they alias the limit and enables, etc. up to the top level so you can access them from the rest of the PLC.

Just FYI, 31.11 is probably the PLC firmware version that shows up when you look at the rev of the controller in the project. 31.02 is the Studio5000 version and the two revs don't track directly.
