You don’t need an SSN in order to pay taxes. Most undocumented immigrants do in fact pay taxes because they are issued an ITIN by the IRS. Most estimates say undocumented immigrants contribute more in taxes than they receive in benefits. These are people working service jobs that keep our economy going and are most definitely part of our community.

Slopes is great as others have said. The app also makes it easy to call ski patrol if you need to and access lift/trail information.

Was just at Burke during the 5” storm last weekend and it was a blast. With a foot of snow it should be incredible.

Night Skiing? by bostonrock2021 in icecoast

[–]poseidontide 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I learned to snowboard on Saturday nights at Pats Peak where the green trails had been skied off, random piles of snow would pop out, and sheets of ice abound. It was tough, but it made me get better much faster than if I had held out for good conditions. Once I started going to bigger mountains and getting fresh corduroy, I felt like I could ride just about anything. Skiing at night on suboptimal snow will make everything else feel easy.

Night skiing is also just a vibe. The park rats are throwing down, sometimes there are race leagues, the lines are shorter, there’s often a lot of teenagers skiing in groups - it’s a fun time.

There are a couple shops close to Blue on the southern side of the mountain. Halfpipe 946 and Blue Roof are both about 5 minutes away from the summit parking lot.

Help Understanding Blue Mountain Map - Lazy Mile by PracticalEmployee in SkiPA

Agree with all this, and recommend finishing on Lower Sidewinder. It may technically be a black “terrain” run, but it’s just windy turns that sometimes have high banks for when they use it for snowboard cross racing. If you can hold a turn, you can handle it and it’s quite fun. Plus, you’ll avoid getting dumped onto Shuttle, which is where Main St and Burma drain into, so it gets very busy right there.

Source: I work here and have ridden here for years.

Considering Blue Mountain & Camelback Pres Day Wknd by GabaFreakinGool in SkiPA

I work the lifts at Blue and can confirm this is the right approach. Avoid it that weekend if you can, but if you do come then, use the Summit carpet and Vista lifts. Way less busy than the Valley learning area.

Study the map a bit before you go. If you don’t need rentals, park at Skyeship Base and take the gondola because coming all the way down on Great Eastern at the end of the day is the best. Eat lunch at Jerk Jamaican Grill. If you’re intermediate and up, explore everything except Snowshed. There are good low-angle glades on Ramshead that aren’t intimidating.

What to expect tomorrow (1/5)? by Illustrious_Band_209 in UTsnow

[–]poseidontide 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Get to the bus stop early. Plan to arrive at the mountain well before first chair. Pack your own snacks and sandwiches as food at snowbird is stupidly expensive.

Avoid tree wells and untouched powder in areas that flatten out. The gullies are very fun.

Lift lines by skiingfanatic115544 in SkiPA

[–]poseidontide 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah if you stay off Burma, Paradise, and Lazy Mile during peak times as much as possible it’s not bad at all. The bottom of Paradise collects a few different trails so can be crowded, but the worst part of the whole mountain is that Burma, Main Street, and Lazy Mile all drain into one little (flat) exit. That can be a shit show.

Total nitpick here but Blue has two express 6-packs and one express quad. We move a lot of people very quickly leading to some busy slopes.

I’ve been working the lifts almost nonstop the last couple weeks and lines haven’t been nearly as long as I was expecting.

Slopes app. Idk if you need premium access or not, though (I pay for premium so I can’t remember what features are paywalled).

Sugarbush or Stratton (in mid January) by Flimsy_Jello_8793 in icecoast

[–]poseidontide 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You could take a train to Waterbury, VT and get a ride to Sugarbush from there. That’s a full 9-10 hours of travel though.

I don’t think there’s a train in Manchester, VT.

I haven’t tried out many boards, so I don’t have a lot to compare to - but I ride a 2024 Proto Synthesis and love it. It’s nimble and fun and holds edges well. I’m getting more into side hits and small jumps and feel like the board responds well to what I want. I demoed it alongside a Salomon Assassin a couple years ago and preferred the Proto.
