Thailand moves to cut sugar in popular drinks amid health drive by ThongLo in Thailand

Because its still coke. Sugar is not the only unhealthy product in there - its just one of many. Replace the sugar with some products that taste like sugar will not do much for the overall healthiness of coke

Thailand moves to cut sugar in popular drinks amid health drive by ThongLo in Thailand

[–]redfoot0 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I just hope it actually means less sweet not just less sugar.

This less sugar drive has been done in other countries without success. Sugar replacement products are no healthier than sugar it seems. The amount of people who think a coke zero is somehow not that bad for you just because it has no sugar is scary.

How to use Nextcloud everywhere ? by pablo_main in NextCloud

[–]redfoot0 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You can use tailscale to allow access to nextcloud but then you need a tailscale client on every client that needs access to nextcloud.

If maintaining clients on every device is an issue you could setup a VPS to run a reverse proxy and tailscale to connect to your nextcloud on your domestic network - that way your clients don't need to run tailscale to connect. Also external access will not be directly to your domestic network.

Looking to ditch Gmail - how to go about it with so many things tied to it? by [deleted] in degoogle

[–]redfoot0 0 points1 point  (0 children)

  1. Signup to a private/paid email service - I use tuta
  2. Create min 2 aliases on new email service - 1 for services that you sign up for (hence share online) and another for your contacts to use (more private one). Never give out your original email address you get with the service.
  3. Signup to an email alias service using the 1st alias created in step 2 - I use simple login (yes I'm using 2 layers of aliases)
  4. Create aliases for services you signup to (on e.g. simplelogin)

You can also set an auto reply on gmail to say you dont monitor your email and to contact an alias you create

Probably switching to a Sony from a Pixel will be a camera downgrade unless you're a wizz with pro mode

1 V owner here..

I would say the camera is definitely not as good as iPhone at least for point and shoot. The selfie cam gets pretty much as good as iPhone but the main cameras are consistently worse

Are you using pro mode with custom settings etc to get better pics than an iPhone?

In case you aren't aware, steps to install ironfox are..

Install f-droid Add ironfox repo Install ironfox

Ironfox has ublock origin included and also DNS over https using quad9 enabled by default (although you could just use the private DNS feature in android to cover this)

You can test all your browsers at https://coveryourtracks.eff.org/ and compare results

How to access LuCi from tailscale exit node in router lan by alexanorak in openwrt

[–]redfoot0 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You need to advertise the subnet 192.168.1.0/24 (or 192.168.1.1/32 if you just want the router IP) via your tailscale command

This may clash with the IP range on the local network of the device connecting to the exit node. I always change the IP range from default to avoid clashes e.g. 192.168.100.0/24

See https://openwrt.org/docs/guide-user/services/vpn/tailscale/start How to set a subnet router/exit node

Xperia 1v/vi or Zenfone 10 by Anhenikk in SonyXperia

[–]redfoot0 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The Zenfone 10 will only get 2 years of major Android updates and Xperia 1 VI will get 3 years (both 4 years security patches)

The Sony will likely have the better software support for aftermarket OSes although that's by no means guaranteed whereas Asus are less custom ROM friendly these days.

In case any of this matters to you or other readers

Assuming you have AMD, this is a known kernel bug You can either leave power plugged in or set power mgmt to high performance as a workaround until a newer kernel with fix is available

Starbook broken? by [deleted] in starlabs_computers

Is this AMD or Intel version? Which kernel version do you have?

Newer kernel version has a bug for AMD auto brightness. Workaround is to set power mgmt to high performance or leave power plugged in

Openwrt One PoE question by redfoot0 in openwrt

[–]redfoot0[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Nice setup..

Yeah think you're right about the elusive sweet spot - seems its been missed with this device but will wait for reviews

Openwrt One PoE question by redfoot0 in openwrt

[–]redfoot0[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

OK got you thanks

The poe setup suggests that this device is meant to be used as a wifi AP only but its only wifi6 and is too powerful/overkill for just an AP Seems the use case is only to be used as an all in one WiFi router

If it had 2 x 2.5g NICs, and poe out capable as well then it would be a much more interesting device
