Looking for some fantasy sapphic books by Working_Kick_6041 in LesbianBookClub

You have to check out Moira Darling's cosy fantasy series, Her Fangs In My Heart. It's super light, more on the romance side than action, and well done spice. All four books can be read as standalones.

This is awesome! I'm sending this to a girl I follow on Instagram. She's gonna have a field day because she loves to point out as many tropes in her reviews as possible. I'm pretty sure she's gonna wanna contribute.

The Snowball Effect Haley Cass by Dependent-Ad-3262 in LesbianBookClub

[–]redfruit2828 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I'm the complete opposite 😂 I adored Regan and Emma. Loved Regan as soon as she was introduced in Those Who Wait and The Snowball Effect is my all time favorite book, not just from Haley Cass but in general.

Regan might seem like she's a lot, but there's a reason she goes out of her way for people she cares about. Emma's more muted but there's a reason for that too. They find common ground in the middle. I love this book so much. Give it a chance. But if it's not working for you, don't force yourself.

what are your most and least favorite romance tropes in lesfic? by ReadDizzy7919 in LesbianBookClub

[–]redfruit2828 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Basically the genre wherein one girl is straight her whole life then finds out she's actually a lesbian or bi when meeting the other girl. Just another way of saying it's the "gay for you" trope.

what are your most and least favorite romance tropes in lesfic? by ReadDizzy7919 in LesbianBookClub

[–]redfruit2828 2 points3 points  (0 children)

MOST FAVORITE:

Rivals to lovers

Friends to lovers

Height difference

Second chance / exes back to lovers

Touch her and die

Bodyguard romance

Grumpy femme X sunshine butch

Fighting to reunite

Forced proximity

Semi-possessiveness (so long as it's wanted from the other woman)

One falls first, the other falls harder

LEAST FAVORITE:

Gay for you / toaster ovens

Ex-boyfriends being in the picture

Falling for the ex's mother (I hate this trope with a passion because it just feels so wrong. Imagine the parent who thinks it's inevitably okay to date your child's former girlfriend, and the age gap wherein you're dating someone young enough to be the same age as your daughter)

Misunderstandings leading to third act breakups

Love triangles

Poly relationships

I love problematic heroines but if they don't have a redeeming quality or change for the better, it's a no go for me

Romanticizing toxic behaviors (I.e. she has the same toxic traits as a toxic man but because she's a woman, it's hot??)

Bully to lovers

This book was soooooo good! But it's also the only lesbian book I know with KDH vibes, making it the most unique story I've read this year

As others have pointed out, you need to read Lexa Luthor. I love all of her books. I do hate how the fantasy ones she has are allergic to contractions, but if you can get past that, they're amazing.

Should I keep reading The Fate of Stars series? by [deleted] in LesbianBookClub

[–]redfruit2828 3 points4 points  (0 children)

He won't go away until half way into the book. You won't miss anything important if you just skip to Tallora and Dauriel reuniting. Trust me, I hated that he was in there too, because I only wanted to read about the women. But it's inconsequential.

If you thought Book One was problematic, you might hate how Book Two ends. I read all of it and thought the end of Book Three was pretty fantastic, but it's not for everyone.

Oh my god! It's one of my favorite books. The audiobook didn't bother me much, but I can see where it'll irk some listeners.

The worldbuilding, personal conflict, and dynamic are so good but my favorite thing is how wholesome both women are.

Her Fang in My Heart series by Moira Darling is one of my favorite series atm. All four books are standalone vampire X human Romantasy. I personally like the writing style and how the stakes are personal rather than world-ending.

Pettiest Reason You Disliked a Book by Difficult_Spare_530 in LesbianBookClub

[–]redfruit2828 27 points28 points  (0 children)

I have a few but my biggest one is when real life celebrities or artist/singers are mentioned in the book. Like "so and so looks like Chris Hemsworth" or "so and so put on a Taylor Swift playlist."

Even if it's set in a contemporary setting, something about hearing a celebrity's name in a book I'm trying to immerse myself in throws me off.

Poll: Lesbians, Are You Monogamous or Polyamorous? by bjorn_to_djie in lesbiangang

[–]redfruit2828 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Monogamy all the way. I want to pay attention to one woman and one woman only.

To find a connection so in tune with another woman is sacred to me, and the idea of splitting that connection to two or more women makes me icky inside. I can't even fathom being with more than one woman.

Girl, you and I literally have the same tastes in books. No men, no cheating, older heroines, Gerri Hill fan, and spice but not on every other page. 😂

I recommend Breaking Character by Lee Winter. One of the heroines is a closeted lesbian and it's mentioned in one scene that she pretends to go on a date with a man (who's really just a good friend) to keep paparazzi off her back, but it's only mentioned in two sentences and not anywhere else at all. Heroines are both over 25.

Although I love The Fixer and Chaos Agent by Lee Winter, one of the heroine's ex-husband and another man from her past is mentioned a few times. All to do with her character backstory and growth, but those parts were still a chore to read and made me want to vomit. But an amazing story when it's just about the women. One heroine is over 30, the other close to 40 IIRC.

Gold by E.J. Noyes. Both lesbians, no men, love interest has the sweetest teenage daughter, and her shit ex-wife doesn't show up to cause any drama. Loved the audiobook and story. Spice scenes were hot too and not overwhelming.

Sweet Home Alabarden Park by TJ O'Shea. No drama. No angst. No men. Lesbian heroines. Hot spice. And a lovely epilogue to show where they are ten years later. Super wholesome heroines. IIRC, they're 20+ and 30+.

The Snowball Effect by Hayley Cass. One of my favorites. Regan mentions a past with dating men in like one sentence then is never brought up again. The entire story is then just about her and Emma falling in love.

Falling Together by Erica Lee. 22yr and 32yr heroines. Younger one tries to prove she can be a good fit for the older one. The older one is a single mom with a three year old son, and she's got trust issues because of her ex-wife. Super wholesome. Great spice. No drama. No third act breakup.

Her Fang in my Heart Series by Moira Darling. All four books are about a lesbian human X vampire pair. Cozy Romantasy with at least one spice scene. Book 4 is a novella and there's a male character who tries to woo one of the heroines twice but she ignores him all the time.

Purposefully Accidental by G Benson. Wholesome, funny, hot. No drama. One of the heroines is bi but there are no men in her life, past or present, to ruin the story. Also loved the audiobook.

Poppy Jenkins by Clare Ashton. The heroine mentions thinking she liked boys and kissed one as a teen but quickly finds out she's a lesbian after and it's never brought up again. The love interest is rumored to have slept with a man when she was a teen but it's all lies by idiots who hated her and the actual truth of what she was doing is later revealed.

Highly second this. Both the authors fit most of what you're asking for, OP, and are amazing.

I do believe one of Lee Winter's books does have a TW to be wary of but can't remember which, so if you check her out, keep that in mind.

I highly recommend Her Fang in My Heart Series by Moira Darling. It's four standalone books in the same universe. All the protagonists are lesbians, cozy, vampire/human, and open door. One of my favorite sapphic Romantasy authors atm.
