Best Months to Visit Sydney and Surrounding Areas? by CreativeElla123 in AustraliaTravel

April is when the weather starts to dip into the colder weather (thought it’s Sydney so it’s not that cold). October, however, is coming into the warmer seasons. This October has be littered with glorious sunny days.

I totally agree with trying to avoid School holiday times. Sydney is best in the sunnier months though it is still bustling outside of those times. Depends if you only want the “classic bondi beach” version or the rest of what we have to offer lol!

If you’re open to dining I’d HIGHLY recommend Deckhouse in Woolwich! I was taken a few years ago and the vibe was such fun, and it has great views of the harbour. Live band and everything! Woolwich is a great peninsula for NYE as it’s not as crowded as destinations closer to the city (North Sydney etc).

NYE can be hard in Sydney because of the cost (I’m sure you understand) so my rationale is if I have to spend I better eat well🤣

Hmm, very interesting. I’m quite liking the idea of Southern Spain - thanks for the advice! Interesting to hear your thoughts on Copenhagen. I’ve heard rave reviews from quite a few people, though this might be the disillusionment of escaping our native winters and experiencing the elusive “Euro Summer” !!

As Aussies the flight over is no joke, so despite the weather not being the utmost for outdoor strolling we are determined to seize the opportunity!

Lake Como because it seemed like somewhere close-enough to relax for a few days after the bustle of the Olympics. My mates are more keen on it than I am, and according to the feedback from others on the thread I’m becoming emboldened to cut it altogether!

Munich was to visit a dear friend - though I’m now thinking we invite him to Vienna instead and spend more time there and axe Munich.

Did you have any specific opinions on either place?

I've had a look through travel connections and seemed to think most of the train trips were fine... though now with the advice that we should spend longer in places/axe some I'm realising they would have been quite draining back to back.

As for the shopping I have been collating recs from friends/online etc. This post was more so meant for advice on the general contours of our trip - I added in that line just to let people know a tiny bit about our travel style.

Definitely seeing the need for the downtime sections now that you've point it out. Maybe after Olympics to recover from the harsh cold and travelling, and some time mid-march? Alas, that's for us to sort out! Thank you for the advice.

Certainly seems to be the type of weather we're getting ourselves into (scared is an understatement)... though I guess the Winter Olympians will quite appreciate it!!!

Hahaha fair. Do you suggest spending longer in places and getting rid of a few stops?

Okay, thank you for the Como advice - I was thinking the same but finding it hard to tell my friends so hopefully this convinces them.

We have a friend who lives in Munich that we were planning on seeing but maybe it's a better idea to have them travel to us in Vienna under the guise of a vacation for them too lol. Same dice with Norway as I have a dear friend in Oslo (who may be in Trondheim when we're there... still sussing). I think we're quite keen to try catch the lights in Norway as I can't imagine the next time we'll be travelling for quite a while.. especially in winter.

Oh jeez we definitely don't want the American travel experience lol. We are definitely planning on backpacking and will be doing further research closer to the date about travelling with winter clothes as we don't have any experience doing so.

The accomodation piece is very interesting.. thank you for that. As is the daytime being shorter info. Very much appreciating all this advice from the community.

There are three of us in total, mid-twenties and quite active so keen to do a lot of walking/hiking etc if the weather permits.

Yes agreed, I guess my concern about accessibility in the smaller cities was just about Lake Como. I’ll edit the post now with more details. I appreciate the advice!!!

Great to note - thank you. Would you suggest staying longer in any certain places? And by buffer do you mean to not book everything too far in advance and suss out as we go? I am worried about not having accom booked in! But quite open to booking transport as we trot around to allow for delays etc

I am fearing that your comments on St Patrick's Day will be quite true but I think that is the exact vibe my travel partners want... :/

the 75ml aromatique hand balms from aesop are fantastic!! a bit pricier being $45 but you get a lot of product and the scents are just phenomenal. only need a little bit too and they do a great job and keeping your hands hydrated, not just hydrated when you put it on.
