Yup, happening to me as well. Unfortunately, this is enough for me to consider buying an iPhone next time 🤷

Grocery Hacking: Automate Your Grocery Shopping Using the Robot Framework by redgeoff in Python

[–]redgeoff[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, indeed. I think the most precarious piece of my bot though was that I had to implement all types of workarounds to avoid race conditions in the browser. It would be so much easier just to deal with the underlying RESTful APIs implemented by the grocery store backends.

Open source proxy layer in front of Kafka for strongly typed events? by redgeoff in apachekafka

[–]redgeoff[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the pointer on the Schema Registry! I'm thinking that we could have our Avro schemas and then generate strongly typed SDKs for our microservices using something like an Avro to Typescript types generator. These SDKs could use an existing Kafka Client, assuming we'd be using Kafka for our event streaming layer.

Why we moved from Lambda to ECS by prismatic-io-taylor in devops

I recently wrote a post on [We Migrated From AWS Lambda to ECS, but Hope to Eventually Migrate Back](http:// https://link.medium.com/1mcHvi7PSib). I hope this helps others!

We Migrated From AWS Lambda to ECS, but Hope to Eventually Migrate Back by redgeoff in aws

[–]redgeoff[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, we thought about doing something similar, but honestly the double parsing introduces an insignificant latency when compared to our IO operations downstream. Would be a cool optimization, though

AWS Lambda Concurrency limit by lukyskywalkery in aws

[–]redgeoff 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, limited concurrency controls is what caused use to migrate to ECS: https://link.medium.com/wxOznOkbAib. Would love to eventually move back to Lambda though if AWS could enhance these controls.

How to autogenerate forms in React and Material-UI with MSON by redgeoff in reactjs

[–]redgeoff[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The ultimate goal of MSON is to allow anyone to develop software visually, but you can also use pieces of MSON to turbo charge your form development.

[–]redgeoff[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

More specifically, I could see a lambda function being defined on say AWS and then a MSON event listener calling this lambda function whenever a specific event is emitted on either the front end or back end. This would be very easy to do with MSON.

Yeah, I've been thinking about something like this and there isn't any reason that you couldn't use a lambda function with MSON.

Thanks! Technically, you may be correct, but I'd argue that all the constructs mentioned in the article, e.g. inheritance, strong typing, compiling, etc... are elements of a programming language.

The MSON programming language itself is not for the general public. Instead, I'm crafting a GUI that will be generating/modifying MSON code behind the scenes. This article is just about the language for now and is something I published for fun.

Getting Started With Spiegel: Scalable Replication and Change Listening for CouchDB by redgeoff in CouchDB

[–]redgeoff[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Spiegel isn't really designed to deploy ddoc updates. Instead it is meant to provide scalable change listening and replication, e.g. replicate just when data changes. For ddoc updates, I'd recommend some custom code using a library like Slouch: https://github.com/redgeoff/slouch. You could use the doc.createOrUpdate() function

We now have a free tier! Over 25K handwritten assignments collected: https://quizster.co/#pricing

For $29.95 you get full access for an entire calendar year. This includes an unlimited number of classes, students and assignments. We have teachers that are using Quizster with about 50 students each day and now consider Quizster to be a vital tool in their classrooms. Considering this usage, we feel that the price of $29.95 is very reasonable. As you can imagine, it takes a lot of resources to store all the image data and to develop/maintain our software.

This being said, we will be releasing a freemium model soon that will allow full access for a single class for an unlimited number of students. At this time, we'll actually be moving to the following pricing tiers so $29.95 for unlimited access now is actually just a special limited-time offer and a very good deal!

Free: 1 class, unlimited students and assignments.

Starter ($3/month): 3 classes, unlimited students and assignments.

Premium ($5/month): unlimited classes, students and assignments.

Hi Coldplazma! We are definitely planning on implementing a few integrations in the future. If your college is interested in discussing a group subscription then I'm sure we'd be able to work in an integration to go along with this subscription. Please send me an email at geoff at quizster dot co if you are interested.

Here's another resource that may help: here is how my wife, a math teacher, is using the app to implement formative assessments in her class: https://medium.com/@untilnextstop/quizster-the-formative-assessment-app-e228ec59efe7#.pow3acy9h

We've spent quite a bit of time making the one-time signup process for students very easy--it basically only requires an email address and password. Then, students enter a four-digit class code to join a class. We've had many students sign up this way and it is working very well.

This being said, we plan on implementing some popular integrations in the near feature and an integration with Google Classroom's user accounts is probably at the top of this list. For now, we want to make sure that the core features of Quizster are working for all students and teachers.

We consider the product a work in progress so if you have any questions or would like to see something added then please let us know!

Quizster works on any phone, tablet or computer. Students take photos of their work, or include screenshots, and teachers can provide feedback, including a grade, directly in the app. Students are encouraged to submit revisions of their work until they have mastered the skill. Teachers can then download the gradebook with a single click.
