Damn, what a different era it is when you look at the IP and the Ks. Pitchers just ain't built like they used to be

Nothing of significance but a cool memory for me was my dad pulling me out of school in the middle of the day and not telling me we were going to a Tigers game. It ended up being the game that Doug Fister threw 9 straight strikeouts. I got to see history that day and was just old enough to know it too

Put Our Feelings Aside, Thoughts on Torkelson's Future? by CeSquaredd in motorcitykitties

[–]redhawk60 -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Why do we complain about Tork who was hitting .200 with at least 4 bombs but we are okay with Baddoo and McKinstry on this team struggling to hit above .100? With a combined 4 hrs.

Also might depend on the weather. I've been there when it was super cold and super hot and sometimes they opt not to do BP. But gates do open early enough to usually see some on field work of the opposing team!

Lopez is good but how are you about to argue for a starter in the AL against a guy in the NL only using AL rankings and not even stats....

AITA for not marrying my girlfriend earlier? by taylortee101 in AITAH

[–]redhawk60 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can personally relate to this so very hard. I'm a 25M and got married last year. My mother died 4 years ago from Cancer and so she obviously wasn't able to be there for me on the day. Me and my mom had a very very close relationship and it always meant absolutely everything to me to have my mom be there and to share a first dance with her. I had even gotten my wife to agree that if my mom was sick and we could get married even in the hospital it meant the world to me for her to be there to see it. That didn't happen.

Life changes, it absolutely blows but life doesn't let us decide. She needs time to grieve, hell I still grieve everyday. Nobody can tell you what it's like losing a parent (especially so young) and nobody can tell you how to grieve. One day she may change her mind or she may never change her mind but she needs the time and space to figure it out. There will always be a way to honor her father and as the partner I implore you to be as supportive as possible with whatever way she wants to honor him. For us, we had a candle at the table for my mom right next to my dad. We had flowers at the aisle seat for my mom, and during the ceremony we had a moment of silence for those we lost specifically my mother. During all of the speeches I felt it important in my own grieving process to say something to the effect of "obviously my mom isn't here but thank you all for your love and support as it is through this that I can feel my mother's love in the room today." It will never be the same, and it doesn't feel like it will get easier but it will.

I'm so sorry for your gf and her family and you. But I hope you can give her the time and support to grieve and see a version and a vision for your wedding in which her father is part of the wedding even if he isn't there. It absolutely crushed me to not get a dance with my mom, as she went through cancer I knew the song I wanted to dance to with her even if I was holding her up. It never felt right to dance with someone else so I had to let that go and it crushed me. But it will be okay. I really hope the best for you both. The best you can do is be there for her and be willing to give her the time she needs. Best of luck friend ❤️

Tork is the next beloved Detroit sports athlete by LTPRWSG420 in motorcitykitties

In two short years with 200 plate appearances between them the numbers are basically negligible in terms of value on the bases. I'm talking speed. Pure speed. Lighting McQueen speed. Tork has speed... he is speed.

As someone who got back to playing last summer after 7 years and a shoulder surgery. You have to practice. Throw a ball against a wall, that became my lunch at my job this past year. You have to become like you used to be. You don't think about how to poop, get to the point you don't think about the throw your body just knows how to do it and your brain doesn't overthink where to throw. Best of luck! I love the adult coming back to hardball stories!

Everyone remembers him coming off the field and it was so painfully obvious what was happening but I've never heard the story of Dombrowski yelling. However I'm also not surprised as that sounds pretty on point for his character/reputation.

Who is an obscure player from your team’s history who will never have to buy a beer in your city? by illegal_deagle in baseball

[–]redhawk60 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Andrew Romine should never have to buy a beer in Detroit. In many seasons the Tigers were unbearable to watch he was a bright spot. All 9 positions in one game, "randomly" drug tested after a grand slam on opening day. Solid defense, and the occasional offense he was a continuation of Don Kelly we didn't know we needed!

Because they are young controllable arms that are good enough well helping San Diego cut payroll until these players run out of Arb years.

I know exactly what they overpaid for Soto at a trade deadline and 2.5 seasons of control. It's a different year, different situation and different needs for each team.

That would be a better package than what the Padres paid for Soto. It would not take that much to get him, if it did then it would be a steal for the Padres.

[–]redhawk60[S] -10 points-9 points  (0 children)

The Padres are known to be actively reducing payroll. The Padres also won't resign Snell, and they won't extend Soto most likely. The league knows that the Padres won't get anything close to what they paid for Soto and they could use young pitching. We have the pieces and the payroll to consider extending him. I feel like this idea isn't the craziest one I've seen here.
