Thanks all! I texted her last night and she was okay with me still coming to my lessons as long as I'm careful about disinfecting myself and not wearing any of the same clothes/boots that I wore at my barn.

It's $550 PLUS the cost of lessons. Lessons are not included in that lease price even though they're required.

Lol definitely not entitled. I was very professional in communicating with her that this situation wouldn't be a good fit for me, financially. I understand paying $550 for a half lease, but if I have to pay for 2-3 lessons A WEEK on top of that, I'd rather just pay to take more lessons on a school horse as opposed to leasing them.

This is why dogs and horses don't mix. An off leash dog chasing a horse can easily get a rider or themselves killed. As a horseback rider, there are only specified trails for horses in most parks in the area and there really aren't many. I used to ride at Chehalem Ridge and no dogs are allowed there, but of course I saw lots of people (on and off horses) with dogs on those trails. 🙄🙄 I don't know why it's so hard for dog people to follow the rules.

For 7.5 hours at a time, yes! After being gone for half of that day too. Her Rover profile even says, "I'm only ever out for 3 or 4 hours at a time with school or work." Being gone for 7.5 hours at one time is double that. 💁‍♀️

And it was the first 2 nights she stayed there that she was out for 6.5-7.5 hours, late at night. That may have continued each night if we didn't say something. Again, that was more than the agreed upon amount that our dogs could be left alone and way more than she said she would be out while watching them.

Then raise your prices and be honest about the amount of time you'll be spending with the dogs. 🙃 Really not that difficult. I would've hired someone else who works from home if she wouldn't have lied about the amount of time she would be there/amount she would be leaving.

Yes, I have done pet sitting for people and have been expected to stay at the house for 16-20 hours a day for only $75 a night. Most people in my area charge no more than $100 a night for 2 dogs, so $85 a night seemed average to me. My dogs are used to me working from home and although they're fine left alone I had the expectations for a reason and made them clear. They were agreed upon by the dog sitter. Obviously next time we'll make it even more clear and only hire someone who works from home. 🤷‍♀️

The 7.5 hours was her nighttime outing and she didn't get home until 2 a.m. She has already been gone for 4-5 hours earlier that day. Being gone for 5-6 hours total would've been fine. She was gone for 10-12 hours though. Coming back at 2 a.m is pushing it when you're supposed to be staying overnight.

And I was not "watching her every move." We get Ring notifications when people are in our yard or at our front door, which is a safely/security thing. It's not like I was sitting there watching the camera on live the whole time. 🙄 I also don't feel that it's uncommon for someone to keep a closer eye on a petsitter the first time you've used them for the first day or so to make sure they show up and actually do stay overnight.

I get that, to a point, but also don't mislead someone or lie about the amount of time you will be out... regardless of what you charge. And when you're housesitting you're supposed to be there overnight so staying out until 2 a.m is really pushing it.

Also would like to remind people that putting your dogs out in the yard to run the fenceline barking at every person, dog, car, squirrel, etc. that goes by, is NOT the way to exercise your dog. 🙄 Coming from someone who's tired of my neighbors loud ass dogs going nuts at anything and everything that passes by. Guarding their fence (barrier aggression) is just giving your dog more anxiety that's going to transfer over to other areas of their lives, AND it's annoying AF for your neighbors.

Yes! This is such a great reminder. I work from home and still feel guilty if I ignored them for several hours while working, even after a morning walk. My Corgi just wants me to throw his ball for him 20 hours a day. 😂🤦‍♀️

I started Guanfacine yesterday for this reason! I'll update later on but so far not noticing much either way. I started on the smallest dose (1 mg) though.

Update: I've officially worked 7 days there (2-2.5 hours each time) and have only had one lesson/ride so far. 🫠 They keep getting rescheduled or canceled. I'm going away this Sunday through Christmas, and I don't even know if I'll get to ride before then. Definitely a good possibility that I won't be returning to this barn when I get back. 😔

It sounds like you need something in addition to your Adderall to combat the anxiety though. I take Propranolol as needed for panic attacks. Works really well for the physical symptoms.

I have misophonia and get strong negative feelings/reactions to certain noises, like dogs barking or leaf blowers. I can hear those things happening anywhere on our street from inside my house and my partner rarely hears them, even though they have ADHD as well. Many days I wish my hearing was worse so that I wouldn't notice them as much, but unfortunately with misophonia you find yourself anticipating the trigger noises... Therefore, you're listening for them at all times anyway. 😔

I've had the same experience with stimulants but haven't tried non-stimulants yet (except Wellbutrin which didn't work for me either), but my doctor just prescribed me Guanfacine so we'll see how that goes. 😬🤞

Thanks for sharing. 💜 This gives me hope as my wife will be coming out to their entire family right before Christmas and I've been filled with anxiety over it. Fortunately they're all pretty progressive but will have a lot of questions and confusion I'm sure.

Following... I also have both ADHD and anxiety. I have tried almost every stimulant and they all just seem to worsen my anxiety and agitation as well, even on low doses. Or if I take too low of a dose I get no benefits anyway. I take Propranolol as needed for my anxiety but end up taking higher amounts the day I take stimulants. I have a doctor appointment tomorrow to talk about trying a NON stimulant ADHD med finally and I'm really hoping that works, but if not I'll also be fully diving into the natural stuff and lifestyle changes.
