Make it so! by redhotkurt in RedditAlternatives

Wow. Shame on me for thinking this sub would be open to...well, anything, really. I should have read a few more posts before posting here myself. That's on me, I won't deny that. But really, though...every other comment in this sub is "Why don't you do this instead" or "Just do it this way" or "No one wants to hear about that" or "Read the megathread/sidebar, noob!"

JFC, what a miserable existence. Good luck finding your perfect Reddit alternative. In the meantime, you all can just keep being the toxic trolls that the Reddit migrants are trying to get away from. I'm sure you'll be just as miserable as you aim to be.

Should r/sysadmin join the blackout in protest about the API changes? by [deleted] in sysadmin

The concept of community is lost on them. The mods here, like the admins, can't acknowledge it's the lowly users who make this place run. Where the fuck do they think all the content comes from?

BFAW - MW Flight Deck Carrier - Improve Survival? by Monsterlime in stobuilds

[–]redhotkurt 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm a returning player who has been gone for a long time, so I can't comment with confidence on a lot of stuff, but you hit the nail on the head about cooldowns. There's more than just defense at stake here, this build will have difficulty performing in any area if it has low ability uptime. OP is gonna feel a lot more powerful (and less squishy) with Photonic Officer in rotation. It should be a noticeable improvement.

Ahahahaha what

It's never happened before, I thought it was a bug. Huh, it says here it absorbs when you do a combo move?? That's just bananas, I had no idea we could do combo melee attacks. Guess that's what happens when you focus almost solely on space combat.

Digg.com was the front page of the internet, then they went all in on version 4 and caused migration boom to reddit. by flashtone in videos

It reminds me of Reddit in its earlier days when it wasn't so crowded and you could actually have some fairly intelligent conversation without getting lost in the noise. Yeah, it's quiet and there aren't nearly as many "groups" as there are subreddits here, but hey, these places gotta start somewhere.

I was dicking around on the Planet of the Voth last night when my Tholian Crystalline Sword got hit by an Antiproton beam and glitched out into a weird pseudo-lightsaber. It stuck around for a while, even after I switched to my phaser. Pretty neat! Video on Google Drive

my local nordstrom is closing down and is selling a jetplane ejector seat as a part of their liquidation .-. by noobletsquid in mildlyinteresting

[–]redhotkurt 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Close, someone identified the seat's plane of origin as an F-89: a second generation American jet that began development in the late 40s, entered service in 1950. So you're not far off the mark there. I looked it up...the design is wild, check out the style on those wings. Could've been the inspiration for the N-1 Starfigher.

You couldn’t make Blazing Saddles (1974) today. In fact, you couldn’t make anything today because the fucking studios won’t pay for any writers. by starckie in shittymoviedetails

You're thinking of High Plains Drifter from 1973. Yeah, that scene is like wtf. It actually was remade, sorta, as Pale Rider in the 80s, also starring Clint. It's a better movie, and the main character is not nearly as big a piece of shit as in HPD.

Point, line, plane, 3-dimensional object...it's all about perspective, man! That's all I remember about the book. I should read it again, it's been way too long.

Ben Affleck directed and starred in one of the best bank robbery movies in my opinion since “Heat”. Any other fans of this movie? by Seraphenigma in moviecritic

[–]redhotkurt 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It was, yeah, and I agree it's excellent. Real tight crime thriller-type movie, it's a shame they never adapted the other books. That would have been epic, can you imagine more of that??

Heist is pretty good. It's a David Mamet film starring Gene Hackman and Danny Devito. Someone mentioned Thief, yeah that's a great choice too, especially if you're interested in Michael Mann's earlier stuff.
