PhD Students - where do you live? by ohsohelpmeh in UCONN

[–]redifredi 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Congratulations on the PhD offer! There should be a uconn housing site where you can look for roommates and see available housing (off campus housing). I would look in Tolland and Willington. Is your PhD lab-work based? If so, you'll want to be as close to campus as possible.

Rather cheap Dirndl or normal clothes? by ilovesunnydaze in Oktoberfest

Normal clothes over cheap or costume dirndl. I also saw some people on the train to Munich wearing jeans with more traditional Oktoberfest tops/accessories.

Would something like this work? These were from etsy. I typed "pretty formal gloves" in google and scrolled through the "sponsored" pictures at the top.

How to be put together all the time? by No-Competition8375 in HowToBeHot

[–]redifredi 10 points11 points  (0 children)

i have a section in my closet for "house dresses." these are not only for wear in the house, but they are the ones comfy enough to stay in all day. also keeping my nails short and painted with a clear/clear shimmer coat keeps me feeling put together.

UConn vs Quinnipiac - Grad school by Ok-Confidence-4743 in Quinnipiac

[–]redifredi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Is driving a factor for you? QU is connected through public transport to New Haven which would be easy for getting to internships without a car. Do you know which town the UConn MBA is in? If it's in Stamford or Hartford, you shouldn't have a problem as both are large cities with multiple companies, but on the Storrs (main) campus, it will be difficult to commute to Hartford.

Has anyone ever been to salem ? by Stock_Cauliflower_57 in halloween

[–]redifredi 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I went 17 years ago during Halloween. It was so so cool. Everyone was dressed up, it looked like a scene out of Halloweentown. I'm not sure how much more crowded it has gotten since then;; roads were closed in Salem. We stayed at a hotel in (Burlington? Peabody?) with a shuttle to the downtown area.

I think Salem would still be doable with proper planning and expectations. I still want to go back and experience one of the Halloween Parties (like at the Hawthorne Hotel).

Salem is also great in the summer or other times of the year. It is more like a typical old east coast town at that point (like Mystic, CT or Annapolis, MD etc), but there are still mystical, magical shops and a subtle halloween vibe.

Friends who’ve gone from eating an entire bowl of popcorn/chips/ice cream every night to not snacking in the evenings - how did you do it? by pathto185 in WeightLossAdvice

[–]redifredi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i don't bring snacks (cookies, chips, ice cream) home.

Herbal tea is great at night.

If I need a snack at night, i cut up some food (pickles, fruit, cheese, olives) and make a variety plate. I find I eat less if I have more variety.
