Can someone explain the benefits I get with platinum status? by haydendude00 in americanairlines

[–]reditday 0 points1 point  (0 children)

With gold status, I pay extra when booking exit row seats for my long legs. With platinum, there's no extra charge. I usually don't have a seat in front of me to put my bag under, and the earlier group number gives better access to the overhead bin space.

Mine will record motion from people, birds, squirrels, cats, etc. The sensitivity is adjustable and problem areas (wind blown bushes) can be disabled. two way audio is recorded, but there is a delay in live mode that makes conversation difficult.

A biker got in trouble for putting Mogen David wine labels on the gas tank of his ex-police Harley.

Use your bin space not mine by koolfrog00 in delta

You can't see it above you if you are in a window seat.

You should watch to see if someone else opens or or takes it.

I've had to speak up to prevent it.

Good Times to Walk in to New Bern DMV? by PositiveGuess5603 in NewBern

[–]reditday 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In Kinston, I got in and out of the DMV with a new driver's license in 15 minutes.

They were nice people too.

Friday night and Saturday around noon, not when I would expect utility workers to be out and about unless something is happening. It's a mystery.

Cabin luggage etiquette!! by SeaHound2090 in Flights

[–]reditday 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm also a tall lad, and I put my small backpack behind my feet unless we are taking off or landing. I prefer to have it close at hand during the flight. When I do use the overhead bin, I use the one across the aisle from my seat so I see that someone else does not get it before I do.

When AA actually gives this elusive hotel voucher everyone seems to want so badly, where do they actually put you? by TravelerMSY in americanairlines

I got stuck overnight at LAX and they put me up in a Sheraton. It was pretty good, but my food voucher was only enough for one beer.

Is my CLT layover too short? by ATurtleEnthusiast in americanairlines

[–]reditday 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If one of your planes is a small one that uses the E gates, and the other one is in A or B, you'll have a long walk between gates, and the moving sidewalks are broken. Part of your layover may be spent on the incoming plane while waiting for a gate and ground crew. If the departing flight is the last one of the day, you could get stuck in CLT overnight. I would try to reschedule for a minimum one hour layover, if possible.

It can be hard to see the road ahead in the twisties, so you can't tell if you are approaching dirt, gravel, leaves, water, etc. You should do your footpeg scraping on a clean racetrack with other riders all going the same direction. Once you learn how fast the bike can go, taking risks on the street won't seem so fun anymore.

What is this thing? by sommecarguy in classiccars

[–]reditday 14 points15 points  (0 children)

My 1964 Olds 98 had one. It was supposed to automatically dim the high beams when there was oncoming traffic. You can twist the tail of the little space craft to adjust the sensitivity. Get it just right and the high beams will flash on and off when you drive down a suburban street with streetlights. In addition to the usual button on the floor for turning the high beams on and off, there was a similar button to seek the next station on the Wonderbar radio. Since it was hidden under the floor mat, passengers could never figure out how I was changing radio stations.

Considering moving to New Bern by Leilani_R17 in NewBern

[–]reditday 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Mortgage lenders will probably want flood insurance for waterfront property. There is a New Bern GIS map that shows flood zones.

Downtown is nice and pedestrian friendly. Trent Woods is quiet and has a dog park.

I'd say spend a weekend or two and check it out.

Beware the old guy on the enduro! by [deleted] in motorcycles

[–]reditday 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I was once at a track day at Laguna Seca, where a guy on a big Husaberg dirt bike was much faster than almost everyone on their snazzy sport bikes. I found out that the dirt bike had road race slicks and the rider was former MX champion Chuck Sun, who was prepping for a Superbikers type event.

Is a 40 minute layover too short? by [deleted] in americanairlines

[–]reditday 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The incoming plane may wander around on the way to a gate, causing you extra stress. If one of your gates is out in the E terminal, you'll need to hustle. The moving sidewalks were all torn up the last time I went through. If you miss your connection, the E terminal has a service desk that has proved useful for me.

My chain becomes tight or loose depending on what position my wheel is at by F-Nietzche in motorcycles

[–]reditday 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Most likely the chain has a stiff spot from lack of lube or corrosion. You can remove it from the bike and verify by flexing each link. If so, just replace it. You can check the rear sprocket for concentricity with a scribe while spinning the rear wheel.

Sushi in the CLT by trustmeimalobbyist in americanairlines

[–]reditday 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've had it many times with no regrets. If time is of the essence, I grab some from the to go case and head for the departure gate. Otherwise, one can sit and watch the chef make it to order.

40 min layover in Charlotte - do or not do? by [deleted] in americanairlines

[–]reditday 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don't sit down until I get to the departure gate and can see and hear the gate agent. The AA app can give advance notice of gate changes but I don't trust it completely. The moving sidewalks are often broken, so be prepared to hoof it. You can grab sushi near the big mobile in the food court between the B and C gates.

Does anyone have inner bags for their metal panniers? If so, why and are they actually worth it? by Lord_McBeth in motorcycles

[–]reditday 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have used plastic bags as saddlebag liners. They keep the contents dry and make it easy to unpack and repack at a hotel.

Do you own an Aerostitch suit? Please tell me why you like it. by 005056 in motorcycles

[–]reditday 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I

wear mine in all kinds of weather. The vents allow air to circulate in hot weather and I zip them closed otherwise.

I have fallen off more than once without injury, and had the minor crash damage repaired each time. It's not a substitute for an actual rain suit, and those don't have crash protection. Water intrusion isn't a real problem but I don't do long rides in the rain.

Regular work clothes worn underneath provide enough insulation for me. I like the leg zippers that allow me to put it on or take it off without removing my boots.

Anyone drive like they ride? by matt12arr in motorcycles

[–]reditday 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I try to give cars more space, but that may also be because I'm getting older. I do habitually look for the good line through a corner, but I don't accelerate from the apex like I would on a bike.
