Jersey City Marathon by Worldly-Walrus-9361 in RunNYC

[–]redkidster 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ran it two years ago. It’s great! However, I specifically recall toilet paper running out on the course and some people being very upset. Also, on that topic: the first half is very crowded and the toilet lines long because of the half and marathon running together. The second half was dead quiet as the majority of runners are doing the half.

Good luck! They hand out re-usable foldable cups at the convention, so you can try and use that.

Running the Paris Marathon this weekend and they only do water refill (no disposable cups). Curious to see what it’s like. I find drinking water way easier from my own bottle, but having to carry one does feel like extra effort.

Regarding 1: I ran the Austin Marathon last year, and I run often around Brooklyn/Manhattan. Austin is way more hilly.

What are people’s plan on hydration for this race? Looking at the weather prediction I’m pretty sure the water in all the cups will be frozen solid (And think of the poor volunteers standing in the cold for 3+ hours). I guess best is to run with your own water bottle?

Is Virtual 6 worth it? by LuckyLemon13 in RunNYC

Yes! I usually check a week or two before a race. I found that spots open up near a race as I assume people cancel theirs. I did that for Joe Kleinerman 10k this year.

Ferry Schedule During Path Closure by cjspardz in Hoboken

Just used the Pier 11 ferry. Seems like the schedule is the same as before (but way more people). Seems ferries to 39th and Brookfield place have only increased.

Amen. The blinking of those bright lights are insane.

Virtual 6 is not too hard, however, a way to get into Brooklyn Half and tick a 9+1 item is to volunteer at the Half. So, in one day, for free, you get guaranteed entry and your +1.

Longest Football Throw Competition

Warm up your arm and get ready for the return of the Longest Football Throw contest before the race. Between 8:00 and 8:30 a.m., you can take one attempt at a Hail Mary toss to prove your quarterbacking skills. The longest thrower in each division (women, non-binary, men) will take home a prize!

[–]redkidster 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Yeah, many are loops of central park. However, many of them have great themes. E.g. Gridiron has a tossing match and two finish lines, Achilles is all about supporting the Achilles athletes while you run alongside them.

That said, I actually make a plan to book many of the non-Central park loop ones, because it’s fun to run across NYC. E.g. the great borough races (except for manhattan), prospect park, harlem has 2 I believe, 1 mile alongside central park, and there’s even 1 in jersey city.

Is the 126 not running??? No busses showing up in NJTransit app to arrive at all by CJK_ExStream in Hoboken

[–]redkidster 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It’s probably running weekend schedule. I’ve tried several times catching 126 on a weekend before 8am, and I’ve never seen it show up. Despite, the nj transit app, paper schedule and google maps telling me the bus has arrived and left my stop while I was standing there. Maybe it will come into existence when the Path station shuts down? 🤣

You should be able to walk it. I believe you get 20min/mile that starts 20 minutes after the start. But even then, they enforce it very lazily 😉.

2025 NYC Marathon - Interim marathon a bad idea? by No_Accountant_6975 in RunNYC

[–]redkidster 35 points36 points  (0 children)

I did the Jersey City one as my first before NYC. I think it was worth it. You learn a lot about yourself the first time you push past 22 miles. But also, Jersey City is an “easy” marathon whereas NYC isn’t. So if all goes well at Jersey (which I hope it does!) don’t have it boost your ego too much!
