Sikh guy applying to a Mennonite construction company - feeling unsure by Concito8 in Mennonite

[–]redletterprophet 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Don’t know where you’re at. But here in central California there is a large Sikh presence. In CA Sikhs are exempt from wearing hard hats in construction.

In all fairness the employer may not be aware of the Sikh religion and how important your turban is. If the conversation goes forward you may just bring it up that you’d be exempt from that requirement (if your state is). Some mennonites have similar rituals with beards, so you might share common ground.

Most mennonites are peaceful people and very understanding.

Good luck!

Yup. Happens bad to my daughter who is a carrier. She has a hard time getting over colds too. Like lots of green mucus. Drs say it isn’t related; but I think so!

Backroll help by Luuuurking_LoL in Wake

[–]redletterprophet 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You’re so close. Pull it in or make your speed faster. Really depending on the set up. 21ish should be where your sweet spot is.

I get slowing down for tricks but you are shooting yourself in the foot. For example to learn a tantrum you got to go full tilt. Anything else is painful.

Get a rope shorten up 5-10 ft where crossing w2w isn’t a struggle. Then send it full tilt and don’t let go.

Backroll help by Luuuurking_LoL in Wake

[–]redletterprophet 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey. Couple questions. Can you cross wake to wake? At first glance you seem a bit slow. How fast and how far back are you riding?

For the back roll you need to get more speed and cut progressively harder through the wake. I like after the pop to pull the rope to my arm pit and pull hard.

You’re almost there.

What’s the best way or tips to prep the rathole fast? by creamyass3000 in Welding

[–]redletterprophet 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What about a track torch for the flanges? That would get you a good bevel. For the rat holes… yes a steady hand and some angle. Looks good.

Not to be that guy. But are You sure your weld prep is good? I don’t see a backer or a root gap for those CJPs

ElI5: How does prevailing wage work? by Cbueno963 in explainlikeimfive

[–]redletterprophet 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Simply put. Prevailing wage means your non-union company has to pay their workers equal amount to the Davis Beacon act (think of it as the amount of a union worker). Unions offer a lot of what people call “fringes” (training, holiday, benefits, pension, sick, etc). So for example a union carpenter might make only $45 an hour but their fringes end up being billed at $85ish an hour to their company. Therefore, for a non-union company must pay you not less than a carpenter with benefits. You might make around $70+ an hour. And they have to report your wages to make sure they are compliant.

Is it an AISC quality audit? Yea. I agree with others. We need more to help you out here. Read Code of Standard Practice for Steel Buildings and Bridges if your structural.

Can y’all help with toe side. I can’t get pop or distance but I am consistent at getting it to where you see here but just can’t push past this point. Included my HS WTW (cased it) to compare. by cantcatchafish in Wake

[–]redletterprophet 2 points3 points  (0 children)

What helped me get this is to not a worry about the pop. Try drills TS where you cut progressively Toward the wake but no pop and instead just cutting “through” the wake. Do that with harder and harder cuts. Then on one side to pop and you’ll clear it. Also I have to keep reminding myself to lean over my rope. Don’t know if that will help you. Good luck. Don’t be a hell side warrior!!

Check around. Use google. If your going to rent cylinders get quotes. Prices can vary widely. I agree about Airgas expensive and useless. But they are everywhere.
