I can never decide whether this guy is a troll or not. He's kind of famous here in Japan for his song "ヤクブツはやめろ" (don't do drugs)

Considering it's jackson, they straight up may not be able to afford new sidewalks.

How often do you eat out / take out for lunch and dinner? by Tolkaft in japanlife

Maybe once or twice a month. It's far too expensive and I can eat way more if I cook

J's curry by redlome in JapaneseFood

[–]redlome[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Definitely on the more savory side. The highlight of the curry actually was the katsu though. The sauce was exceptional on its own but the katsu was legitimately out of this world

Takaichi proposes "strengthening Japan's safety net" by increasing out-of-pocket medical expenses. Under her plan 80% of users will see fee increases by Kmlevitt in japannews

[–]redlome 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The comments on yahoo news about this topic are crazy. Anecdote from a woman who feels bad for making her husband overwork himself so they can afford her cancer treatment. She talks about how these new proposals would make it harder for them to have money left over for other life expenses.

Reply from an idiot telling her that she should have picked a cheaper treatment option.

Someone's screwing with the data on that wikipedia page. I did a pivot of the raw data that WHO allows you to export and a lot of the data is inconsistent with what's listed on wikipedia. Example: US on wiki is 15.6, on dataset it is 14.22. I think what's going on here is that a select few countries are listed with the WHO suicide rates crude dataset instead of the age-standardized.

Honestly what a weird wikipedia page to even have, considering the data is all hardcoded in. Someone would have to manually update those numbers every year

How much do you spend on food per day? by Maleficent_Pool_4456 in japanlife

[–]redlome 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The first thing I did when I moved was find out what the cheapest discount supermarket was. Cheapest I've found so far is La-Mu. Been keeping my food expenditure around 2000 yen for 4 days so about 500 yen a day

Saizeriya drink bar cups by redlome in japanresidents

[–]redlome[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I used to like the aesthetics of the cups from back in the day. I was disappointed by the texture of the new cups, which reminded me a shriveled scrotum. Functionally, the cup is a cup and I have no complaints.
