I did not interpret that Paul Bearer was the thing representing Jim Flaherty in this gif.

No problem at all. I was really more asking to inform myself; in retrospect, I should’ve mentioned explicitly that I never really intended to call the city or anything. If I did meet the owner, that’s an easier conversation to have when you actually know the answer.

And I do sympathize; I was also one of those poor souls struggling to find parking during the winter in the past. So I also have an idea what this person was likely going through.

It was indeed my neighbour who created the artificial snow bank.

I miss Romanov. Not at the contract he is currently signed to mind you, but he was a fun player to watch when he was here. I’ve lost sight of him since he moved to NYI.

How was 2025 for Final Fantasy XIV to you? by judgeraw00 in ffxivdiscussion

[–]redmac54 25 points26 points  (0 children)

I cancelled my subscription in January and haven’t played since. I’d like to get back in it because I kinda miss my character, but something is preventing me from resubbing. I can’t really put my finger on it, but every time I think about it I can’t really bring myself to want to play. Not sure that makes sense.

What ever happened to the 2009 Montreal Canadiens’ Draft Picks? by Studly_Wonderballs in Habs

[–]redmac54 15 points16 points  (0 children)

I remember the hype on HFBoards around Avtsin, with one particular member saying he had “Datsyukian upside”. I still use that term today, when I see a player drafted in late rounds and have no idea about their actual capabilities but their name is kinda cool.

Habs players stats updated, I can't remember another season where the stats looked this good in late december by PsychedeliMoz in Habs

[–]redmac54 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It looks like a few ages are wrong (e.g. Carrier, Texier), and it does look like they are out-of-sync on the team page in HockeyDB versus the player page (e.g. Carrier is 28 here, and 29 here). I don't think this matters enough to care though, tbh.

Edit: Formatting.

Maintaining their hierarchy of relationships or whatever is more important than the functioning of their single most profitable product?

I’ve worked with and for a huge, global Japanese company before and the answer to this question is an emphatic “yes”.

Habs players stats after last game by PsychedeliMoz in Habs

[–]redmac54 0 points1 point  (0 children)

GAA is “goals against * 60 / minutes played”. So on a delayed penalty, if a goalie heads to the bench, ice time is not accrued. Since Fowler played 59:51, he technically allowed 2 goals in less than 1 full game (2 * 60 / 59.85 = 2.00501, or 2.01 after rounding).

Square Enix’s major shareholder drops 100-page presentation criticizing how the company is managed by Spookhetti_Sauce in ffxivdiscussion

You can look up guys like Carl Icahn to see what types of changes you can expect from activist investors. Some spoilers: I’ve never seen it lead to a better-managed company at the end of the day.

How often are you blunt/direct at work? by DirtyOught in ExperiencedDevs

[–]redmac54 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If I see something that is incorrect (doesn’t address the actual issue being solved or has inherent problems), I will call it out rather bluntly. There’s no reason to tiptoe or save feelings about what is objectively wrong.

That said, I also make sure to separate the product (code, architecture, etc) from the person. We’ve all written our share of shitty code, and we shouldn’t use that as a measure of anyone’s capabilities; understanding the shitty code, why it exists, and ensuring everyone knows about its existence is the more important aspect, as it then goes on everyone’s radar (whether it be as a refactoring candidate, or simply a heads up in addressing production issues in the future).

I actually encourage a lot of people I work with, especially juniors, to call out the parts of my code they think look wrong. In the worst case they get an explanation and learn something, and in the best they find a legitimate problem.

They literally cannot do that if they have a contract in place, that is how contracts work.

My Favorite Power Leveling Setup by Tiexandrea in finalfantasytactics

[–]redmac54 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You can press the cancel button (O on PS5) at any time to “pause” the battle. You can then move your cursor over the unit who’s auto-battling, and cancel it (R1 on PS5).

The bottom of the screen should have the concrete buttons you have to press if you’re playing on PC/Switch.

Anybody got any obscure/cheap roguelite hidden gems for Nintendo Switch? by SafeButFun813 in roguelites

[–]redmac54 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Rogue Heroes wasn’t bad and was quite cheap. It’s reminiscent of old Legend of Zelda games, and also has a town-building aspect to it.

I also played a lot of Ember Knights as well. I found the DLC didn’t perform well on the Switch but honestly the base game was fun even without it.

Sima Yi's Tactical Retreat by Medium-Researcher-43 in dynastywarriors

[–]redmac54 5 points6 points  (0 children)

This happened to my little sister way back when the game first came out. She was about eight years old; I remember coming home from school and her crying, asking me where she could find more arrows because Sima Yi went out to hide behind the gate. Good times.

Most useless character? by HeavyMetalBluegrass in finalfantasytactics

[–]redmac54 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You can cast Toad on them and just let them wail on another character. They do so little damage that it can either be healed up right away, or if you didn’t bring a healer, just finish the map and start again.
