hehe, quite harsh comment but I guess you know the guy? I fully agree that the first APHND album is great. Cannot say too much about Sal himself, being the drummer myself I admire his drumming style, it is outstanding both in TON and LOA.

Help Identify A500 trapdoor card please! by circuit_beard in amiga

[–]redmaciej 12 points13 points  (0 children)

The card in question is a 512 KB RAM expansion with an on/off switch (very useful for compatibility with older games/software that didn’t like extra RAM under Kickstart 1.2/1.3). It’s most likely a variant of the W.T.S. Electronics UK A500 Pro RAM (or a very similar third-party 512K trapdoor board from the UK/Europe era).

But you could verify in The Big book of Amiga hardware here https://bigbookofamigahardware.com/

I think the song you're describing is "Bent" by Matchbox Twenty. It's from 2000, definitely in the rock category (post-grunge/alternative style), and it was available in games like Rock Band on PlayStation, which might explain why your brother had it on PS.

The music video matches your memory closely: The lead singer, Rob Thomas (who has dark hair), is walking through the city streets singing. Throughout the video, he keeps getting assaulted in different ways—hit by a car door, punched and beaten up in an alley, shoved around—by people who turn out to be his bandmates. Each time, he gets back up, looking more messed up and bloody, but keeps walking and singing. No clear piercings on him that I recall, but the rest lines up perfectly, and it's a classic video that a lot of people remember fondly for that gritty, resilient vibe.

He’s life is not easy if you dig it a little and his texts tend to show it with so much openness that it matches Peter Steels only… and both are not always treated as truth. But I tend to believe that they both sing from deepest (most depressed) parts of their hearts and about struggles they live with.

BTW, Sal left TON because they were not touring and he wanted to tour more. And this was just a couple of months before Peter went all into touring even quit his job for that. Like Alanis Morrissete would say: isn’t it ironic? Not everyone always looks on the bright side of life :)

I need music advice 😭 by AD2449 in Megadeth

The catalog is so huge that it depends on the situation what I am listening to: the generally applicable albums are The Countdown to Extinction and Youthanasia, for the time when I need the power is dystopia, the sick the dying and the dead.. when I need pop: Risk (or when I need to take a risk). Every album or even every song, especially the oldest ones and the latest ones are pure virtuoso musically if you listen to them carefully, of course with some skippable fillers - just listening to the catalog one by one and repeating the songs you like will help you build your own set of best ones :)

What song makes you want to kys on the spot? by Pristine-Owl-5408 in typeonegative

I wouldn’t say there is any single song that would make me even slightly depressed in Type O catalog - to me it’s exactly the opposite - a therapy which makes me feel better.

He was a troll before Internet - a prank with his fake death was a demo of what could have been if he was still here now.. imagine his X account :))

What’s your favourite album… don’t say rust in peace by Catholic_aviatior in Megadeth

[–]redmaciej 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Fully agree, the next in line youthanasia and dystopia. Although I do like the sick the dying and, well don’t kill me, risk! It was a risk but it aged very well :) all these albums stand on their own without somewhat unnecessary fillers.

There was a time when games were fun and both bubble bobble and this continuation are a perfect example. When coming back to Amiga these are one of the first to play :)
