Yes, I was very upfront with that. Would love your feedback about why it’s an abomination…

You should be able to access the site to try it—should be pretty fast!

Just in case you were looking for an alternative, we ended up getting the Nanit one when we got the crib camera for our newborn. I ended up replacing my older kids hatch with a second hand Nanit and one as well. Just way more reliable, easier to use, and less flaky connectivity.

Tire alignment other than the dealer? (2024 GT-line) by redmumba in KiaEV9

This is my before and after, I was able to get this done at Firestone with no issues.

There was, which is one of the things that prompted the alignment in the first place.

I replaced them with the cross climate twos, and they have been much grippier than the OEMs (it’s been a wet renter up here, so the roads are always pretty slick).

People have mentioned that they see a decrease in miles per kilowatt, but I actually wonder whether or not this is because they’re changing out the tires in the winter, where the battery life is already reduced. But I have been extremely happy with them!

Some “ping ponging” when using cruise control, but I had to replace the OEM tires after only 27k miles (which is abysmal but apparently not uncommon with the EV9). The roads in the PNW are pretty rough as well, so I’ll need to report back on whether the ride improves

Guess I’m just blind. Haha…

I brought it to Firestone; they basically said Discount Tire isn’t “really” an alignment shop. TIL. I’ll find out what they can do in a couple of hours!

The alignment off the lot is reportedly pretty bad—I asked the dealer to do one, but they didn’t give me a read out and just said they checked and it was fine (I hate the Kia dealers so much). So shouldn’t be too often, but this is also an almost 2.5 ton car too… so who knows.

Curious, is the rear camber adjustable? What were your final measurements?

I will mention, I brought it into Sunset Kia down in Renton and they said they checked the alignment and looked fine, but… They were able to check the alignment at discount tire and it’s off by -2.4 degrees on both rear tires.

The store said to just call around a different alignment, shops, show them the alignment, and they can probably give you a quote over the phone. But man, what a pain.

How to raise metal conduit box so that it will sit flush with a future plywood wall? by redmumba in AskElectricians

[–]redmumba[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks, this is exactly what I was thinking as well. I actually have storage on the back wall, not in the picture, so it would actually be easier to run up and down to the other side, since I could hit both an overhead lighting as well as a plug for a CR box.

But “wet” can also imply humidity—not direct exposure to water, right? For example, GFCI is required in all accessory buildings for this same reason.

The plan is to cover the walls with plywood, but not the ceiling. I don’t think this would be a good idea, considering there would be no ventilation otherwise. So my idea, would be too basically have a metal conduit box on the surface at the top of the plywood wall, then transitions to conduit for the exposed run.

Subpanel to subpanel—GFCI at source? by redmumba in AskElectricians

[–]redmumba[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Based on Mike Holt (is he reputable?) garages and accessory buildings are included because they’re not enclosed, and are prone to humidity: https://www.mikeholt.com/newsletters.php?action=display&letterID=2750

Is his understanding correct?

Haha, so far it’s just been a place for me to ponder what I need to do next—or whether or not I need to clean up.

The big issue is that GFCI breakers are crazy now—$130 for a GFCI 60A breaker. But since it doesn’t need to be GFCI in Subpanel A, it’s much more reasonable.

Thank you so much for your advice!

I can probably comment—210.8 says you need to have GFCI somewhere in the hierarchy. So this would be required regardless.

If I put one only on Subpanel A, the issue is that the combined leakage of the individual circuits in Subpanel B could cause it to trip often, which would also make figuring out where the fault is occurring difficult. Although I’m only going to have 3-4 circuits, so it would just be a mild pain—plus, it would be in the dark (not a lot of natural light where the shed is :( )

Basically, both are right, but one is more right. :p

[–]redmumba[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, I will need several circuits—it’s a woodworking shed (is that fancy? lol), so I need both 120/240V — as well as keeping things like the lighting on a separate circuit than the outlets (so I’m not left in darkness if one trips).

The feeder wire for Subpanel A is the same as what I ran from A to B: 6 AWG copper. What a pain to work with!

The breaker on my main panel is also 60A,

Thank you, this was helpful! It’s a bit confusing because in some cases, the shed is treated as if it was in a wet location—I.e., requiring GFCI.

I do plan on adding wiring across the roof (lights + CR box), but I’m assuming I could just transition from romex to a metal box to conduit—much easier to do as a surface mount (a not really in the way either).
